Why would one stay when their church and its teachings are false? Ill never get it 🤷
To keep their families together.
For some people to leave, their marriages are destroyed, they become estranged from their children, their siblings, their parents etc…

Leaving Mormonism is no easy feat if your family is Mormon.

Unless you lived it, and fully entrenched in it, be careful about passing judgement on those who are caught in it…

There is so much pain, so much destruction to many families.

Whos passing judgement? I was asking a question

My apologies. It’s just when you said ā€œI’ll never get itā€ that I felt it prudent to express caution.

Leaving Mormonism is a horrific, very painful and painfilled experience for many. It’s one of the reason people DO stay LDS, although they dont believe in it. So their families won’t be ripped to shreds.

Many former Mormons live lives of a great deal of anger, resentment, bitterness, in their post-Mormon years because of the destruction they experience. And many just chose to quietly go along, even though they know it’s false, to protect their families from that very destruction.

If there is a cult aspect to the LDS Church I think this is it. The external preassure brought to bear in order to keep the flock intact is incredibly powerful. How many of us desire to have our lives torn apart, especially with family members? I salute all of you ex-Mormons for your courage. šŸ‘

McMullen stated on another thread that the main reason…where he ā€œdraws the lineā€ at not being Catholic is the Book of Mormon. That has me puzzled. So, I want to ask him some questions. I doubt he will respond, but I hope he does.
  1. Where, specifically, did the Book of Mormon take place?
  2. Where, specifically, is Zerehemla?
  3. Where, specifically, is Bountiful?
  4. Does it bother you that the Book of Mormon was changed to reflect the knowledge that blacks were not becoming white?
  5. How do you explain a young man in 1830s America translating plates in Reformed Egyptian and his translations are almost word for word the same as English Scholars in the 1600s translating the Bible from Greek and Hebrew?
  6. How do you explain the several similarities between the Book of Mormon and A View of the Hebrews…a book written by man who was a preacher at Cowdery’s Church and a book that Joseph read?
We can start with these questions. If the Book of Mormon is THE SOLID THING that keeps you LDS, then I am certain you have answers to these questions.

I appreciate your time.
Better late than never, eh? I just saw this.

First off, I don’t know how you can spell my name wrong since you’ve only seen it in print. It’s rmcmullan, with an ā€œaā€, not an ā€œeā€.

Thanks for your interest in the Book of Mormon. Other than asking me, how have you tried to research your questions on the BoM?

you spent more time on your name than you did answering the questions.

Go figure

When you answer the questions you will be late; at this point you are still never.

I’m still waiting for him to answer the simple question posed to him on another thread that he abandoned.

You know, the one. It was ā€œFormer Mormons, How do you Pray?ā€

He made a statement about the pope embracing the BoM, When asked multiple time for his definition of ā€œembraceā€, he abandoned the thread.

With no answer given.

He did however, lay low, until the dust settled, and now he/she is here offering more pearls of wisdom.

Another ā€œstereotypeā€ demonstrated.

How about it R? Gonna go back and finish what you started?

I was just messing with you. I know you don’t really want to know.
Really? That is how you are going to answer this:

I find your refusal to answer simply amazing. No wonder people get frustrated.

St. Peter our first Pope asked us to be ready to defend our faith. The great beauty of Catholicism is that it is so easy do. Faith and Reason is a wonderful gift the Catholic Church has for us. I’ve never been at a loss to defend my Church.

Which Catholic Bishop did you asked to find out if the Book of Mormon was true? Which Christian history book did you read, printed before 1810, to find out if the Book of Mormon was true?

It’s kind of the point of the board to discuss topics like these. Obviously we don’t all agree as to what truth Mormonism contains but I, for one, who be interested to know how a Mormon might respond to these questions. I lurk on nearly all the Mormon conversations because I am interested in the subject. I also think ā€œI don’t knowā€ is perfectly acceptable response.

nice dodge.

I didn’t figure you had the answers. I just thought you would be more honest about it and not dodge like this.

Be Blessed

If it ever lead anywhere, it might be worth somebody’s discussion. If the Pope spent all his time with hard hearted and stiff necked people, he’d be wasting his time too. If you want honest, you can just say, ā€œI don’t really care about your answer, I just need some ammunition to fire at you withā€

There is no truth to it. They rely on God/Jesus being a liar. Thats the only way their religion will work. And I agree with ā€œI dont knowā€ but its not in their vocabulary.
