They take an oath that goes beyond following a poll. Which if they did seems to be hovering around 50-50. Roughly.
Clinton was at 73% the day he was impeached. So it isn’t exactly equivilent using your criteria.
I don’t disagree with you OTHERWIZE. Only to add that a genuine trial should take place. Where the conclusion is published before trial begins.
This isn’t a trial in the
same sense that a criminal trial is a trial. It is like one, but it is also different, just as a civil trial is very different from a criminal trial. Therefore, we can’t say that a trial isn’t genuine because it doesn’t follow the same protocols required in a criminal trial, such as finding impartial jurors.
This is elected officials deciding if another elected official has (a) committed serious offenses and (b) ought to be removed from an office to which he was elected by the consensus of the electors elected by the voters in each of the states.
The house voted on it and speaker voted it down.
I don’t get the point. Trump brought investigations upon himself with his own actions
The Constitution and the rules of the House also give the Speaker certain prerogatives. It is a very powerful position, not just a figurehead position. Still, as far as I know all she can do is to slow the process down a bit. She can’t delay it indefinitely.
Hard to face reality, when it does not support you, eh? Every newspaper, every newscast, even Fox calls it “impeachment”. All the lawyers, too. Are they all wrong?
They are premature. Impeachment is a foregone conclusion, yes. The vote is done, the protocol in the Constitution is for the House to deliver the articles of impeachment to the Senate. Until the
process is completed, however, the President has not technically been impeached yet. (As far as I know, however, there is no mechanism by which the vote can take place and the articles not be delivered to the Senate just as there isn’t a mechanism by which the Senate can refuse to hold a trial.)
Farcical is what the Dems made this impeachment Not the Republicans. The continued projection is getting tiresome. You have the Dems screeching about imoeachment for three years. They vote along party line to achieve this goal and you call the Senate standing n solidarity with their president farcical? No wonder we are so divided in this country. The truth i n plain site is just ignored by those intent on despising President Trump.
Let’s be fair. Mr. Trump’s capacity and the capacity of his Administration to recognize that rules apply to him–or even for knowing what those rules are!!–has long been suspect. Honestly, the depth of his delusion concerning whether or not there are limits on the power of the President is shocking.
“Then I have an Article 2, where I have the right to do whatever I want as president.”
Donald Trump, Jun 23, 2019
That is scary wrong.
Scary wrong.
