The parade of mind readers? Sorry, but the democrats could not articulate specifically what the president did that was wrong, nor were any of the witnesses able to point to any action or statement to support the accusations (they don’t rise to the level of charges).
Your opinion is duly noted. Trump also admitted it as did Rudy G.

Admitted to what exactly? “Abuse of power” is a characterization of an action, not an action in and of itself. Obstruction? Obviously congress did not really have the authority to compel testimony or they would have pressed the issue. So again, what exactly did the president admit to doing?

“Trump once again [implicitly admitted] ( ) pressuring Ukraine during remarks at the United Nations Monday.”

That entire article is spin and speculation.

The author of the article claims to get some big admission from this quote by Trump that he linked to…

"Trump again basically cops to asking Ukraine about Biden: “We’re supporting a country. We want to make sure that country is honest…it’s very important to talk about corruption. if you don’t talk about corruption, why would you give money to a country that you think is corrupt?”

There you go folks. From the above it is very clear that …“it is an astonishing admission, with the president saying he used his power to enlist a foreign government to help him win reelection.” Pure spin.

Well, a lot of prosecutions are spin. Criminals don’t normally lay out their plans in criminal speak.

I am less interested in what random internet posters think. I’d like a fair trial, with witnesses and testimony, and let a fair and impartial Senate determine the answer.

Right now, the Republican Senate does not seem to want to do that.

What is the wrong thing that Trump has done?
The reports lead us (foreigners) to conclude he has done what he’s accused of doing - sought (for a time) to withhold funding till another country agreed to investigate a political rival - something Trump pursued for personal political gain.

So many errors in thought.
  • They were asked to investigate corruption. Exposing such is surprisingly (to you) in the US National interest when it involves senior US officials.
  • They were also trying to get EU allies to increase their contribution.

^^^This is the problem. Media reports are biased and left leaning. The journalists no longer report the facts, they report their opinion on what happened. Everything is spin now. I’m not sure it is possible to get a true actual report based facts of events from most news sources.

Most of us don’t have enough direct contact with the players themselves, and in this case, some of the players seem to be avoiding giving testimony or have been instructed to not do so. Hence - the media is unavoidable. There is left leaning media, right leaning media and a spectrum between these two.

Could be. Or could be that’s spin. I can only tell you that the “disinterested” in other parts of the world strongly doubt that Trump was acting for any reason other than personal gain.

I think the spin might relate to the premise Theo. There does not seem to be a lot of support for the view that Trump was motivated by national interest considerations about corruption in Ukraine. But I’m just going on the reporting of events by a mix of media outside the US.

But I do agree that exposing corruption is in the national interest. That would presumably justify impeachment where corruption is suspected.

How is it not in the national interest to expose corruption of senior officials?
If that’s the case, then why not use the DoJ and the State Department? There are entire organs of the Executive whose mandate is investigating such matters domestically and abroad.

I don’t know US Constitution and law, but impeachment seems to be a thing. It’s been invoked a number of times…

No, they were asked to make a specific announcement about an investigation, and not about corruption in general, but the announcement had to mention Trump’s target - the Bidens. There is no indication that Trump seriously cared if an investigation actually occurred.

You are deflecting from my straightforward question.

You have zero evidence he asked the Ukraine to fake evidence, like our own FBI did to investigate Trump.

No one has really answered why, if there was evidence or suspicion of the Bidens having corrupt dealings in Ukraine, why the normal investigative channels for looking into allegations against US citizens abroad were not used. I’m not deflecting, I’m stating outright that Giuliani, who has no formal Executive role, and his Eastern European associates, now suddenly have the same status as the FBI, is a ludicrous story.

But not to worry Roe v Wade will be overturned any time now, and backing Trump even when he has a cover story for digging political dirt on his most likely 2020 rival that it beggars belief will be all worth it.

And that’s my final word on that matter. Americans knew exactly the kind of man they were electing, and he has not failed to disappoint.

Were we supposed to extradite Joe Biden and son to Ukraine to go through their judicial system?
