Question: Protestants go to hell, right? Just wondering.
I haven’t followed all of your posts, but I did want to say something for your question
Who goes to hell? Do we know who is condemned? Can any Christian say with absolute certainty who is condemned?
Code:
Catholics believe that the church CONTAINS all the truth revealed by Christ. The fullness of truth, Christ Himself present! We have the assurance of Christ Himself that His church would always stand, even against the gates of hell.
So, we can take comfort in this promise, that if we strive in humble obedience and submit to Christ's church, we are following truth. Even if we never understand all of the teachings, even if we wrestle our entire lives to accept doctrines that are hurdles in our faith, there is no question that the truth we follow IS indeed, THE truth Christ revealed:) Not just parts of it either, but the truth in its entirety...there for us to seek and LIVE :)
Certainly that doesn't mean all Catholics will go to heaven, either. While the truth is there for us to follow, it is still ultimately up to us to make the decision.
The same is true for a protestant. You can choose to follow Christ, to follow truth, or not to.
The difference, is that the protestant does not have the gurantee that THEIR church is the one founded by Christ. They do not have this promise that what their church teaches, what they believe about God’s word, is in fact the correct, infallible understanding of it. A protestant could be following the truth (in the parts that they agree with what Christ has revealed in the Catholic church… ) or they could be following blatent lies! But how do they know? This, I think is where the term “invincible ignorance” comes in to play. Not to imply that protestants are ignorant or uneducated, but that they just don’t have a Christ appointed, apostolic authority, guided by the Holy Spirit to lead them into all truth.
The Holy Spirit can still reveal truth to them certainly, and does! And the Word of God (in the scriptures) provides the non catholic Christian with a foundation in truth… The problem is that they are left in some sense to read God’s with blinders on… Apart from the revealing light of His church.
Anyone who is not Catholic, may still recieve salvation because of God’s great mercy. The church is the instrument, the body, through which Christ offers His salvation to the whole world! Those who are not Catholic are still mystically “connected” to the body of Christ, the church, if they hold to His truth
Are protestants going to heaven? Absolutely…this seems a silly question, because anyone who follows Christ is following truth, and Christ offers salvation
Are they going to hell? Nobody knows… any more than anybody can tell if any particular catholic, jew, muslim, agnostic, atheist, or any other person is going to hell. That judgement is reserved for God alone.
I, personally, will strive to follow the truth as God has revealed it to my heart. Through studying His word, prayer, and ultimately His GRACE, I found my way home, to His true church

I found the fullness of the truth, so abundant that I could never grasp all of it in a hundred lifetimes! And I immerse myself in Christ, and the life of Christ… lived in faith and humble obedience, along with all the faithful of His church
