My wife is waiting for me to come to bed…but as I have said, I think the issue that fits that description and is the most important, is how Catholic doctrine differs from the biblical doctrine of salvation by grace through faith. And I will warn you in advance, I am a staunch Calvinist. Are you game?
I have now COMPLETELY revised my opinion of you 😃

I thought you’d never ask 😛

Let’s talk 👍

Like me, and I’m at the front of the line.

Now, please, Martin777, all I ask is a point-by-point rebuttal of my post. Is there anything so hard about this? 🤷

Seriously, I want a dialogue with you about this.
What were we going to dialogue on? I don’t want to discuss how many angels can dance on the head of a pin!

The kids can all watch and learn (or gnash their teeth!)
Ooooh Yah…this ought to be good…he’s going to try to use a Catholic Book, the Bible, to try to disprove aspects of Catholicism…I wanna watch…🍿

Now, let me see, where did I put all my Catholic verses…:coffeeread:

Ok, I’m ready…Let’s Rock! :extrahappy:

What is salvation?
:bigyikes: WHAT???

I havent even got my gloves on yet :banghead:

I thought you were going to bed, as you said your wife was waiting on you, and we were going to kick off tomorrow, God willing???

That’s a nasty sucker punch and I want the seconds back in the ring and the ref to take a point off you

😃

may i pull up a chair with you?
…the only thing that is going to come out of this discussion is Martin 777 will declare we are all destined to hell, not by our choice though but because God made us for hell…
the thread will run over 1000 posts soon and will be closed…

That’s good. And someone said I lied. I still haven’t figured out what they meant. I don’t lie. Let’s talk, hopefully tomorrow, about what Paul meant in Ephesians 2:8,9 and look at it in light of Romans 3 and 4. We could throw in that passage where Jesus was asked, “What must we do to work the works of God?” Do you remember what he said? HIS answer to that question would be sooooooo important. Don’t you think? Good night.

Great. How you think Cinette is going to sell tickets to the gig with that kind of publicity 😦

😛

OR…

Martin777 and SIA and ‘‘us’’ will have a very healthy, vigorous, erudite discussion, both sides listening and learning, and maybe, just maybe, a seed will be planted, from which a rich fruit tree will grow.

Wow. Predestination. Hot topic. More popcorn. Please pass the coke.

Truth be told, evangelicals are conditioned to turn off the part of their brain that raises questions. They take everything their pastor says at face value, never questioning because he has a “Dr.” in fromt of his name, not even taking into account his “docterate” is from Billy Bobs Evangelical Non-Acreddited College. I accepted Sola Scriptura without question, and to question it would have brought sharp rebuttal. Their claims of the “Catholic Church is wrong” is defended by proof texts taken out of context. In my years as an evangelical, I do not recall ever hearing a sermon on the verse that describes the Church as the source of all truth. Why? It goes against Sola Scriptura. SO I cahlak these attitudes to ignorance. I used to be one of those ignorant souls, and to be honest, I have learned about the Scripturesmore in my 9 months as a Catholic than I did in 15 years as a Protestant. Granted I memorized more, but it took my conversion to CAtholicism to really LEARN it.
Hey now! I’m a Protestant (not sure if I can fully call myself that anymore though) who’s always been a questioner. Granted, I’m one of the few ,I admit, but our Pastor has always told us not to believe everything a pastor/anyone says (as backed by the Bible verse I can’t recall), but to look it up /compare it all with scripture. If it agrees, great, if not, don’t believe it. I will say that the reason for the anti-Catholicism is because we are taught a different gospel than Catholics. We don’t use the Catholic Tradition sources and so our gospel comes only from what we interpret from the Bible. We do have a tradition, though I’ve never heard a Protestant say that. We are taught the tradition of the interpretation of scripture of whichever denomination/culture we’ve been exposed to. That’s a problem. It really doesn lead to some confusion I’ll say. Of course, my interpretation of scripture is often very different than my pastor’s or an elder of my church (which also may be different than the pastor’s), but for some reason, they assume I’m the one wrong when there’s a difference. Just becase I didn’t go to seminary? Well, I’ve been studying the Bible in many churches/Bible studies, and on my own, diligently for years and years so I’d think my interpretation should be just as relevant - aren’t we supposed to trust the HOly Spirit’s nudgings? Well, I no longer feel I can trust what I thought was the Holy Spirit. Now I don’t know what’s my own emotion and what’s the Holy Spirit because I sure thought the HOly Spirit was leading me to the Catholic church a few mos. ago. Apparently that’s not what the Holy Spirit is telling my pastor, or my husband, or my family, etc. It’s all so confusing. Anyway, to answer your question about the anti-catholic stuff, they do it because they really think you are following a false gospel and are deceived and maybe even under the anti-christ and need to be set free. Believe it or not, it is out of love for you (except the graffitti stuff is not acting in love. Well, maybe it is, if you liken it to Jesus knocking over tables in the temple).

i have a master’s degree of divinity(along that line waste of time to look it up anyhow) i am no scholar…either you lied about having a degree or lied about not being a scholar…i don’t expect you to remember all the stuff you write.😉

I unreservedly and fully apologise for that remark. Im working on one pc and reading lots of threads at the same time on this laptop. I misread and mistook your comment about not being a scholar to mean you didnt have the degree you claimed you did, which is not what you said - and I apologise.

Goodnight to you too. And God Bless.
