Some protestant churches use the NAB? Are you sure? It seems like that would be the last bible they’d use.Actually most of the Protestant churches that I know of (my wife is a Baptist) use either the NIV or the NAB.

That would be the NASB (New American Standard Bible), which derives from the 1901 ASV (American Standard Version). Some protestant churches use the NAB? Are you sure? It seems like that would be the last bible they’d use.
Just out of curiosity, do Australian Catholics use the NAB in liturgy? That would be the NASB Bible (New American Standard Bible), which derives from the ASV.
Not to be confused, although the names are confusingly similar, with our very own much beloved (by some) and maligned (by others) NAB (New American Bible)
Nope, the Australian Lectionary is based on the Jerusalem Bible - same as the UK I believe.Just out of curiosity, do Australian Catholics use the NAB in liturgy?
Is this the original Jerusalem Bible or the New Jerusalem Bible?Nope, the Australian Lectionary is based on the Jerusalem Bible - same as the UK I believe.
As far as I know it’s the originalIs this the original Jerusalem Bible or the New Jerusalem Bible?
Thanks! I just started a new thread in Sacred Scripture asking if anybody knows of links to the Jerusalem Bible online. As far as I know it’s the original
I can look it up for you when I go to Mass in a few hours - the bookshop should be open.
Oh, CPayne, you’ve not been around for long, have you? Some of our Catholic brethren still think we should burn heretics. Hard to believe? Use your search feature.Speaking as someone who regularly studies God’s Word from several different translations, I have a comment: The NAB is such a supremely dull translation. Why O why doesn’t someone in charge of these things see that?
The “dangers” of reading other translations? You know, if a Protestant had accused Catholics of thinking some of the things freely admitted on this thread (desire for book-burnings, divine-right monarchies, theocratic government, etc.), we’d all say the Protestant was guilty of biased, anti-Catholic propaganda, wouldn’t we?
Yup some of the hardliners (especially in this Traditional Catholicism forum) are extremely … well, hardlineOh, CPayne, you’ve not been around for long, have you? Some of our Catholic brethren still think we should burn heretics. Hard to believe? Use your search feature.
Oh, I’m in favor of flushing them out, esp. the ones who want to be priests. I always tell them that they should make certain to write their bishop and let him know that they support this and give him their exact phone number and address, parish name and location.Yup some of the hardliners (especially in this Traditional Catholicism forum) are extremely … well, hardline
That would be part of the reason why there IS a distinct Traditional Catholicism forum. May be better not to stray into these waters in future.
He has an actual email address.I’m not sure why, but the idea of e-mailing the Pope just struck me as so funny I’m sitting here laughing.
On the other hand, maybe the Pope WOULD like to know how I’m doing.
I’ve never heard Papa Benny’s laugh … being a Bavarian chap I imagine he’d have a nice one, and use it pretty often tooI’ll pass for now. Maybe when I’m a Catholic a few more days, I’ll forward him some jokes or something.

Sorry, KMXV, wrong century, by a whole lot! When I saw that your comment had been edited by the moderator, I wondered how it could have been worse. And if we had a proper Catholic government, ruling by divine right, the KJV and all other heretical works would be confiscated.
What’s funny about it? That a heretic would presume to take upon himself a right reserved exclusively to Catholic monarchs? That’s hysterically funny, considering that King James of King James bible fame was the champion par excellence of the idea of government by Divine Right![]()
You have me confused with someone else, obviously. I have never advocated anointing a Prince of the Church and Successor of the Apostles as a leader of our civic government.Sorry, KMXV, wrong century, by a whole lot! I am genuinely puzzled by some here who want a Catholic government. They’re the same ones who comlain about most bishops and cardinals.
Okay, KMXV, here’s the deal, you have your Catholic government, its leader–Roger Cardinal Mahony, deputy premier–Archbishop Rembert Weakland.
You know what, you guys need to move to Vatican City!
John
I will.Good night all, sleep tight. Don’t forget to read your Bible.
