I thought the early christians did believe in all that I posted:confused: Nothing new under the sun right?😃

OOPs sorry I just noticed final authority–I forgot the CC doesnt teach that.:o
And one would think that if the same Church through which we all received the Bible did not teach it… why would anyone prefer a faith community that did. ?🤷

Hi,
Did you only read the article they gave you that had to do with catholics? Did you read their article on the essentials of Christianity? I went in and read them and they dont seem like anything the CC would disagree with.🤷
I wasn’t suggesting they were contrary to CC teaching, but by CARM’s standards, who are they to identify the “essentials” and where does the Bible identify them as such?

Ask a Pentecostal, Holiness, Nazarene, etc. and they’ll tell you otherwise.

God Bless,
Michael

Considering that the Church determined what was IN the Holy Scripture, as She has the power to bind and loose on earth, then the question becomes, what about BEFORE there was a Bible?

All scholars, Catholic, Protestant or otherwise, agree that the mention of Scripture in the early letters of the Apostles and their Secretaries (Timothy, as an example) refer to what we now recognize as ‘Old Testament’.

The Catholic Church does not teach what is not Truth, so you are right…we are not taught the final authority lies in Scripture. According to Scripture, 1 Tim 3:15 to be exact - The Holy Mother Church is the pillar and foundation of TRUTH.

Reading this thread made me wonder what people at CARM think of us at CA. Any body know? Not that we care or that it matters but are there people over there talking about their treatement here?

God bless

I think what gets lost in all this talk about CARM is that CARM is basically and fundamentally one man: Matt Slick.

CARM is not the guests on the forums, nor is it a conglomerate.

CARM is really Matt Slick.

When speaking of stuff like “CARM believes this” or “CARM does that,” it is probably most accurate to say “Matt Slick does this or that.”

Anything that is not Matt Slick approved is not on CARM. What he says, goes.

It is a single man’s website, not a church’s or a denomination’s.

Do you know if Matt Slick belongs to a particular denomination? If he does, which one?

From what I know he theology is Calvinist but he has his own Non-Denominational church he is the pastor of.

…Yeah? But even so, the boards are sponsored and are part of his “ministry” or organization and as such, his moderators are responsible for the things that they allow on their forums…and while they are busy joining in the bashfest they host (and they readily do…), they allow and participate in some of the most mean spirited and uncharitable postings I have seen anywhere.

I have seen a few Catholics offer similar lacks of charity, but here at CAF the staff deals with them regardless of religion. If someone sees something that breaks a rule here and reports it…it gets dealt with. I’ve been on here for about 2 1/2 years and it’s been consistent all along.

So far as I’m concerned, what CARM’s moderation staff allows reflects on CARM itself and ultimately upon Matt Slick because he’s in charge. He has control of that and even if he had to shut it down for a while to get good mods and to change the nature of the forum to better exhibit Christian charity and common courtesy, it would better serve his purposes. (Or at least not make his “ministry” look like a haven for who claim to have all knowledge…and offer little else. (1st Corinthian 13:2)

Yeah, but the principle I was using is the same: know the opinions of others in their own words. By the way, thanks for your posts here, I found them both quite informative and interesting.
You are welcome. The reason I mentioned the fundamentalist/reformed difference is that I used to be a fundamentalist years ago before becoming Catholic and even though you are correct there are some overlaps between them and some evangelicals they necessarily have different degrees of Calvinism; as the reformed are five point Calvinist’s. And I have a friend who is a reformed pastor who often debate’s with evangelicals/fundamentalists over sacraments/padeobaptism etc. 🙂

Well considering that I have been told here by RC posters that typing “LOL” or using certian emoticons is considered “uncharitable,” I am not so moved by the arbitrary and careless use of the term.

I was also told here that telling a Catholic they are wrong is “uncharitable.”

That is what I have basically found anywhere I go.

I have found that “common courtesy” is relative to the ideology of the person being addressed.
LOL.

If you’re respectful, so am I. If not, the gloves come off.

This is very significant. 👍

It is good to know you return evil for evil, Randy.

It is nice to know those who are disciples of Christ.

1Pe 3:9 “Don’t repay evil for evil. Don’t retaliate when people say unkind things about you. Instead, pay them back with a blessing. That is what God wants you to do, and he will bless you for it.”

Unfortunately you have corrupted scripture. You’re right, we don’t think scripture is the final authority. We think God is, the living God.

If you say “isn’t scripture the word of God?” I will tell you yes (now kiss the bible like we do) But I will also tell you that you are then worshiping a book and not God in truth and spirit.

If Christians had waited for scripture to be written before worshiping God christianity would have died in it’s tracks. Fortunately we worship the final authority, while apparently you worship the book.

What kind of personal (vs catholic intimate relationship between bride and bridegroom) buddy relationship is there that doesn’t recognize God as the final authority?

Answer: None

Note: Now this one is amusing, I have noticed a recent a trend to copy/ape catholics as stated above i.e. bride, bridegroom, “to know him” intimate relationship, etc. (shying away from personal relationship), attempting to make it their own and presenting it as such against catholics, from whom they copied it. (Personally I find it highly dishonest)

Where is the personal relationship if one didn’t know this stuff in the first place?

Might behoove you to pick up a catechism.

Peace and God Bless
Nicene
