THE EUCHARIST - How can anyone claim to “believe” in Jesus, if they deny what He taught and will not follow what He said?

The Eucharist was also “offensive” to those John 6:66 followers, who left Him because of his “hard” teaching. The mark of the beast identifies the verse where those who walked away from Him are found. Hmmmmm…
Verse separations were not in the Bible until the 1500s, no?

Jesus said, “I am the true vine.” and “I am the good shepherd.” You don’t believe that Jesus is actually a vine or a shepherd? He was talking symbolically there. So how is it that when he said “I am the bread of life.” you believe that actually becomes bread?
I think there is a difference here. In your instances he is employing a metaphor (one thing is another). “I am the true vine.”

When He says, “This is my body”, it is not a metaphor because he is not saying one thing is another. The bread and body are one thing, not two different things.

I don’t think it was quite that late, but it is true that chapters and verses were added long after the Bible was assembled. In my opinion it is one of the worse things that could have happened. Because the Authors of these books never intended for them to be disected the way they are.

As to the 6:66 connection, keep in mind that prophesy, by it’s very character relates to the future and not necessarily to something already known by the world.
Anyway I suspect that po18guy is being a bit facitious here.

Peace
James

It was an English monk who accomplished that, I believe. So, you’re saying that it was a post-rebellion C.O.N.spiracy?

Even so, King James kept it. So, you walk away from Christ and return to your earlier way of life. That is either pleasing to God, or to the evil one. No middle ground. We must choose wisely.

You are amazing once again Jimmy B. 🙂

Our Lord Jesus truly present in the Eucharist thanks you.
May God reward you for your diligence in proclaiming the truth and defense of what Christ taught. :blessyou:
But his posts are always in such bold type, and filled with big, scary truth! I find truth, without a nice coat of varnish, to be offensive. :crying: .

There is the possibility that this is tongue in cheek.

Stop it; I’m laughing so hard, I’ve got tears in my eyes.

Point taken. There are times when Jesus speaks metaphorically.
I’m not a chapter and verse man myself, but when Jesus spoke of being a vine, does the Gospel record that many disciples left Him and did not continue to follow Him? It does record this when He tells them that they must eat His Flesh and drink His Blood. It also records that he let them leave.

Peace
James
JRKH,

Right and when it was meant metaphor then it was obvious when Jesus said THIS IS, that is literally THIS IS not a metaphor look back into Gensis when God said let there be light, there was light, when God said let the waters part from the sky, they did, when God said, this is My Body this is My Blood it WAS.

At least someone laughed! Sometimes we all need to lighten up. After all, the Lord has a wonderful sense of humor, and created mirrors so we could see the proof.

Here is the question again -

THE EUCHARIST - How can anyone claim to “believe” in Jesus, if they deny what He taught and will not follow what He said?

God Bless You.

Man am I glad Anglicans believe in the Real Presence:

From the XXXIX Articles of Religion:
The Supper of the Lord is not only a sign of the love that Christians ought to have among themselves, one to another, but rather it is a sacrament of our redemption by Christ’s death: insomuch that to such as rightly, worthily, and with faith receive the same, the bread which we break is a partaking of the body of Christ, and likewise the cup of blessing is a partaking of the blood of Christ…The body of Christ is given, taken, and eaten in the Supper, only after an heavenly and spiritual manner. And the mean whereby the body of Christ is received and eaten in the Supper is Faith.

From the XXXIX Articles of Religion:
Regardless of the outcome of the upheavals in the Anglican communion, you will always be welcomed with open arms. Look how far the Lord Himself has brought you thus far! We rejoice in our Lord! Amen!

Thank you. Of late, I have to admit I have been fascinated by Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox culture and liturgy. I sincerely hope that the Anglican Communion does not unravel, but I realize that if Anglicanism collapses or goes offensively liberal (and assuming there is no option to simply affiliate with a different province, i.e. an African one), I realize there would only be two options for me:
  1. Return to some kind of Evangelical/Reformed/Protestant denomination (prior to being Anglican, I was your standard non-denom)
  2. Find another liturgical Rite (i.e. the Latin Rite). Although Lutheranism is liturgical, certain elements are facing the same liberalism issues that Anglicanism is facing and, as best I can tell, there is no uniform claim to Apostolic Succession (some Lutherans claim it through Anglicanism, Old Catholicism, etc.).

We stand at the ready to welcome you. We are called to be building blocks of Christian unity. Thus, the point of this thread. Many will reject it outright, and already have. Those who constantly seek the truth will be brought to unity in the Lord. Imagine that glorious day!

p.s. I believe that the Lord has a special dwelling place for the lost sheep of Israel who have embraced Christ. I’m not jealous, just preparing to be your servant throughout eternity!

Christ’s peace.

Jimmy,

Great Job!

I have had numerous discussions with those who believe that the sacrament of the Eucharist is not the real presence of Our Lord Jesus, Christ, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity.

I believe that they are confused, misinformed and are listening to the all too numerous incorrect interpretations of sacred Scripture.

Your clear description, with numerous references is exactly the kind of information we must continue to present. I have found that the early church father’s descriptions are extremely helpful, as many Christians and Catholics alike, have little or no idea how the early church, established by Jesus through his Apostles, worshiped by the “breaking of the Bread”.

Keep sowing the seeds.

May God Bless You!

(I’m off to Adoration, to visit the “real” Jesus present in the Blessed Sacrament)

“EGO SUM PANIS VITAE”

Well, I was adopted, so ‘by blood’, I am probably not Jewish. As a child, I was officially converted to Judaism (moheled and mikvahed) and was raised Jewish and Bar Mitzvahed, so I am not sure if I truly count on that respect. 🙂

The only possible modification here is: “my church is the hidden remnant of the true church”. The spirit of antichrist has inspired many to claim this. And, they believe it.
Talking on behalf of my beliefs sarcastically like that is offensive. How about if I said this of you…

I believe that my Church is Jesus’ church therefore I can disregard scripture and do pretty much what I want. I will get on my knees and worship a wafer instead of Jesus if I want. If scripture disagrees with anything I do I just need to look at the catechism for a reason why I don’t have to take God’s word as the final authority. If I can get away with sin in my Church and the Church ok’s it, then God will ok it too.

Doesn’t quite fit with what you believe now does it? You guys are doing exactly that to our faith and you are misrepresenting us.

Where did the “deformers” get the authority to do what they did?
