BobR, I believe Riley259 was referring specifically to St. Joan of Arc parish, when he said “This church in Minn. really is in open dissent of the Magisterium”. If that is the case, he would be correct.
OK, so I’ll get a grip.

I still maintain that our archdioces isn’t “festering” with anything (referring to the title of this thread).

I think it is extremely significant that the archbishop has stated that anyone wearing a rainbow sash will be denied communion. This is no small step.

Clearly the situation at SJoA is bad and needs to be rectified and it is obviously being addressed, but a problem that has grown over the years will take some time to resolve. Withholding communion makes a very public statement that the Church is serious about what she teaches and it marks a limit to dissent, something the bishops have been unwilling to confront in the past.

There are numerous issues where dissent is rife that the bishops failed to stand up for Church teaching. The bad news is that this situation exists, the silver lining may be that this issue may finally galvanise the bishops to realize - and address - the extent of dissent within the Church.

Regarding the wearing of rainbow sashes, the bishops need to be especially vigilent during Pentecost Sunday due to the fact that gay activist groups have explicitly encouraged their fellow dissenters to protest in churches that day.

Ok, so I am going to start here by saying that I have a good number of Gay friends. I love them all, and I find them to be good people at heart.

That said, the fact that they are engaging in homosexual activity is sinful. There can be no acceptance of it by the church. The Catholic church cannot bend its knee to the will of the people. The people must bend their knees to the will of the church. Christianity is not a democracy.

I pray for my gay brotheren. They too are children of God that have fallen to sin. Let us all remember that we have ALL fallen to sin and help bring these people back to a life of grace.

Has anyone here ever been to St. Joan of Arc? Have you been there recently? Are there signs of change with the new pastor?

(I have’nt been there myself - I keep meaning to go some Sunday just to see if it’s really as weird as its reputation.)

That would be a good idea, report back to us and see what you find. But I have no interest in going even if I were able to go, as I have heard enough about what goes on there.

In any case, you gotta love Michele Bachmann michelebachmann.com/ 👍
