I do not understand all these comparisons that I read between Jesus and Mohammed. Can someone, Christian or Moslem, enlighten me.

Jesus:

i Walked on water
ii Changed water into wine
iii Prophesied he will be killed but will rise on the third day
iv Raised the dead to life
v Fed thousands with just five loaves of bread and two fish
vi Healed all kinds of diseases
vii Never raised a sword or killed anybody
viii Preached none violence
ix etc, etc, etc

Tell me what Mohammed did so I can make comparisons

While some might interpret the verse to suggest “last of the prophets”, the actual words of the verse has “Seal” of the Prophets…,.

“wa Khatama”

A seal can be understood as a sign of authenticity… as a document can have a seal of an authority…

Prophet Muhammad can be seen as an authentic “seal” of the Prophets.

Seal can be understood as a noun…or a verb.
There are some authentic Hadiths which declare that Muhammed is the last prophet.

It seems that each major religion has a definitive statement regarding who the last and the greatest prophet is (so far) based on their own holy texts. Newer religions borrow certain features from those which preceded them and then go their own way, somewhat like a theme and its variations in music.

I do not intend to compare prophets. Qur’an mention that all prophet are equal as prophethood:

The Messenger has believed in what was revealed to him from his Lord, and [so have] the believers. All of them have believed in Allah and His angels and His books and His messengers, [saying], “We make no distinction between any of His messengers.” And they say, “We hear and we obey. [We seek] Your forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the [final] destination.” Al-Baqarah(2):285

But in some specific issues some prophets are greater than others. The greates prophets are Abraham, Noah, Moses, Jesus and Muhammed. And also all prophets are great.

Here miracles of Muhammed:

a) The water came out through His fingers many times in case of need
b) Prophed Muhammed prophesied many cases which would happen after Him. The list is vey long
c) Muhammed were ascended to most high beyond Heavens.
d) Muhammed raised some dead and deads talked. Even Abdulkadir Gaylani raised a cooked chicken to life. Gaylani was an Avliya even not a prophet.
e) Prophet Muhammed healed many diseases and patients and the list is very long.
f) Nuhammed feed thousand people with a very few food many times and the list is very long.
g) Muhammed split moon with point it by finger.
h) The stones, dead trunk, some animals talked
ı) Trees walked.
etc etc etc

Now the issue of sword…

God allowed prophet to fight. Prophet Moses had killed someone by error. Muhammed killed someone in war and that was all. Muslims were threatened by sword so Muslims retaliated. Tribes supported Pagans in wars so Muslims retaliated in same way. People did not accept faith because fear of sword but people saw the fact in Islam. Prophet did not forced anybody by sword to accept faith. Muhammed had no such a power even some of His families did not believe in Him. The numbers of believers were getting increased before wars. When numbers of believer advanced so Pagans persecuted believers and killed some. Despite all disadvantages the numbers of faithful increased. That was not by sword but through fact in Islam. Later Muslims used sword to protect themselves and to expel threats. Islam also established a state so Muslims treated as a state. Once Christians were persecuted for hundred years because lack in power of a state to protect believers. Christians repeatedly use that “sword” argument to refute Islam but they do not see inside of case.

It seems that each major religion has a definitive statement regarding who the last and the greatest prophet is (so far) based on their own holy texts. Newer religions borrow certain features from those which preceded them and then go their own way, somewhat like a theme and its variations in music.
18 I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.

19 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him. Deuteronomy 18:18-19

I respect all religions, even the so-called pagan religions, because they help the believers cope with life. I am trying to have an idea of what makes them tick even though I do not believe in any of them except the Christian Faith. Having said that, I will be asking questions and will want explanations about topics I do not quite grasp.

The verses you quoted correctly are from the Deutronomy. In those verses, Moses was asuring the Jewish People that God would raise a prophet like him, Moses, from among the Jewish People, in response to the frightful experience of the Jewish People hearing the voice of God at Mount Horeb. I understand that Mohammed was not a descendant of the Jewish People. My queston then is: what is the relevance of your quoting Deutronomy to estblish the identity of Mohammed. You have to look elswhere to find a biblical support for Mohammed being raised a prophet like Moses.

You said that all prophets are great but the greatest are Noah, Moses, Jesus and Mohammed. I do not know what your criteria are for greatness but will not disagree with you that they all were very prominent in the Old Testament. I have read somewhere that Islam claims Mohammed is the greatest of the prophets; I will respect that believe but will respectfully disagree. In the Christin Bible (John 14:6-7) Jesus said “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; NO ONE COMES TO THE FATHER EXCEPT THROUGH ME”. I have capitalized the second half of the verse for emphasis. I will understand if you do not believe the Christian Bible and the above verse just as I hope you will understand if do not believe the Koran. If the above capitalized verse is not true, then Jesus was boasting about a capacity He did not possess and that means that all the other relationships He claimed to have with the Almighty Father were sham. On the other hand, if the verse is true, the claim that Mohammed is the greatest prophet is baseless because he still has to go through Jesus to get to the Father. It is either one or the other; it cannot be both.

Did Mohammed bring people to accept one God? Yes he did and so he is a prophet. But you CANNOT put Mohammed in the same company as Jesus!!. Mohammed did not improve on the performance of Jesus. Jesus was a trail blazer; there has been no human being like Him, there is no human being like Him, and there never will be any human being like Him. He is God made Man, the Soin of God, sinnless, blameless.

As far as miracles are concerened, please provide references in the Koran for the miracles that Mohammed performed.

That verse and the whole passage from Deuteronomy have been used by both Christians and Muslims to represent Jesus and Muhammad, respectively. However, the Jewish interpretation, which I have discussed elsewhere on CAF, refers to the preparation of the Jewish people for their next leader since Moses was approaching death. The passage also refers to the office of prophecy more than a specific individual prophet. Moses reveals the distinction between a true and a false prophet and the qualifications needed by the former.

There is a fundamental difference in some of the miracles ascribed to Mohammed and those by Jesus and his followers. The miracles of Jesus are not dramatic without a moral significance or lesson. So there are no dead chickens raised to life or talking animals. We have a very good as gold Muslim friend who ascribes proof to what is essentially anecdotal. He related a story about a woman back then throwing a pot of food on someone’s head because he wanted to be served before the children.

I find that talking to him and others there is a strange mixing of literal (taking things absolutely at their word) and symbolic (making absolutes out of myths). In other words, the word gets confused with a representation. Fundamentalist Christians often times have a problem also in discerning between literal and allegorical. A model of the truth is like a map.

You can have geographic, street, global, topographic, etc. but all will be imperfect as they emphasize one or a few aspects, not all. Only the thing itself can express its totality, as much as the experience of God that we can never have completely on this plane, only imperfect maps. The truth of a parable does not lie in its actual characters but the lesson it is imparting. To return to my original premise, the miracles of Jesus were not for their own sakes or for drama, but to embody a higher meaning.

Did Mirza Husayin Ali perform any miracle?
I think it is very important to acknowledge that even one unexplained miracle/phenomenon performed by a Personage who claims to be a Godhead should be sufficient, unless you wish to make this into a frivolous competition??? 🙂

But amongst so many other things, Baha’u’llah raised the dead, healed the incurable instantly (as did His son, Abdu’l-Baha, witnesses to which are still alive today)

Probably one of the most known accounts of a miracle was the witnessing of “All the Prophets” and angels of the Lord circumambulating His residence, as witnessed by two of His disciples, Nabil-A’zam and Haji Muhammad Tahir:
*On the evening that the Blessed Beauty, exalted be His glory, was to move to the Mansion of Bahjí, this servant and Nabíl-i-A’zam were staying at our residence, which was a room we both shared. It was situated on the upper floor of the Khán-i-Súq-i-Abyad. The room had five glass windows overlooking the road. We were both sitting at the windows looking out, waiting to behold His blessed Person as He passed by. It was nearly two hours after sunset, when we saw Him pass in front of our room riding on a special white donkey. A few steps behind Him, riding on, his donkey, was Khádimu’lláh (the Servant of God) Mírzá Áqá Ján. When He passed out of our sight, Nabíl suggested that we follow Him on foot to the Mansion to circumambulate it and then return home. With much enthusiasm I welcomed the suggestion. We both ran down the stairs immediately and walked quickly behind Him, keeping a distance of about fifty steps. That evening an oil lamp was burning inside the Mansion and we could see its light from outside. It was a very large oil lamp which had three wicks. I was familiar with this lamp because we {Hájí
Muhammad Táhir and Muhammad Khán-i-Balúch} had brought it with us to the Holy Land. It was presented to the Blessed Beauty by Hájí Siyyid Mírzáy-i-Afnán from Bombay. When the Blessed Perfection dismounted and went inside the Mansion, we walked toward the building in order to circumambulate. But when we came a little closer we saw to our amazement that the footpaths around the walls of the Mansion were packed with people, who were standing. Crowds had assembled around the four sides of the Mansion and we could hear their murmuring as well as their breathing. Of course we knew that no one had come from 'Akká to circumambulate the Mansion, and we two had gone there without permission. Anyhow, since there was no room to walk on the footpath we stepped back, and at a distance of about thirty steps from the Mansion we circumambulated. To do this we had to walk in some wheatfields and, as it happened, the ground had been recently watered, so we had to walk through muddy fields. As we circled the Mansion we could sense the presence of the multitude on the four sides of the building at some distance from us. In the end we prostrated ourselves on the ground opposite the Gate of the Mansion, and returned to 'Akká. On the way back heavy rain poured down on us, and just as we arrived at the gate of 'Akká, the guards were about to close it. Normally they used to close the gate every night four hours after sunset.
When we arrived home, Nabíl suggested that we ought not to sleep that night and instead keep vigil.* He said to me, ‘I will compose poems and you make tea.’ I made tea several times during the night and Nabíl was engaged in writing poetry. He was a gifted poet, he used to compose extemporaneously. By the morning, he had produced poems written on both sides of a large sheet of paper. We sent a copy of his poems, together with two sugar cones,† to the Blessed Beauty. His poems were mainly about history, the history of Bahá’u’lláh’s imprisonment, His banishment to Baghdád, Istanbul, Adrianople and 'Akká, the sufferings He had endured in the barracks, the story of the building of the Mansion by 'Údí Khammár, and 'Abdu’l-Bahá renting it to serve as a residence for the Blessed Perfection.
He then described the events of the evening Bahá’u’lláh went to the Mansion, and how we both followed Him, the account of our circumambulation when we saw the souls of all the Prophets and Messengers and the Concourse on high assembled* outside the Mansion, circumambulating the throne of their Lord. In these poems Nabíl described in detail our keeping vigil, his own writing poems, and my making tea.
When His Blessed Person received the poems of Nabíl, He revealed a Tablet in honour of Nabíl and myself. In it He graciously accepted our pilgrimage to the Mansion, conferred upon Nabíl the title of Bulbul (Nightingale) and upon myself Bahháj (the Blissful).
Finally, we have the Revelation of Baha’u’llah which was revealed with impossible rapidity. For example, the Kitab-i-Iqan (reference.bahai.org/en/t/b/KI/ ) was revealed in 4-5 hours. I challenge anyone in history to reveal such lengthy and weighty Words in such a short time.

I would be interested in your thoughts having learned what I have posted above dear friend 🙂

.

Baha’ullah had intend to fit religions together and that shows that these inspiration is not revelation but it is just good will.
May I ask you what is the difference between “revelation” and “good will”?

How do you know Muhammad was giving revelation and not good will too?
Do Baha’is believe in Paradise and Hell and the life to come?
Yes, of course, there are volumes of Revelation in the Baha’i Writings on the afterlife, heaven and hell 🙂

Why do you ask?

.

Logically speaking, it is possible for God to send as many prophets as He likes and wishes.

Me personally, I am not a Muslim, and believe it is possible that prophets can come after Muhammad.
Your logic serves you well dear friend 🙂

The verse say "from among their brethren but not from among their descents. Ancestor of Jews was Isaac and Isaac was son of Abraham. And brethren of Isaac was Ishmael who is ancestor of Muhammed. Muslims do not prove Muahmmed with Bible or Torah but Muslims intend to make it easy for Christians to understand. Because they are aware of Bible and Torah.

No one would come to the Father(God) except through Jesus and that is true. But billions of people went to father through previous prophets before Jesus. Islam do nopt reject any prophet and Islam do not reject Jesus so Muslims can go to God both through Muhammed and Jesus and through all other prophets. It can be both. Do not restrict faith.

All prophets were sinnless. God is unique and God has not any son or partner. To claim such thing is “Shirk”. Prophets were humanbeing and they were not angels. So we must regard prophets both as a human and as a prophet. Getting mariage is not a sin otherwise human race would not continue.

It is very obvious. A prophet but not a king or a leader. He will do a job like Moses.

That verse also may point Jesus. But it is more likely for Muhammed because Jesus had no a Jew father so Jesus do not be recognised as brethren of them.

So, you’re saying that Moses was the last Jewish prophet until Mohammed who was a Jew?

So, you’re saying that Moses was the last Jewish prophet until Mohammed who was a Jew?
Brethren of Isaac was Ishmael and His descents. Isaac was ancestor of Jews. So brethren of Jews(Isaac) are to be descents of Ishmael. Muhammed was not a Jew. But that verses may also point prophet Muhammed but it is not % 100 for Muhammed.

And also David was both a prophet and king so that verse may point David too. I did quoted verses to show that Moses was not the last prophet.

It’s not at all for Mohammed, it’s just grabbing apparently useful bits of text from a work that Muslims describe as corrupted.
And also David was both a prophet and king so that verse may point David too. I did quoted verses to show that Moses was not the last prophet.
So, this future prophet wasn’t to be from ‘brethren’ but pretty distant brethren and completely ignoring the rest of the prophets. When Christians do this sort of thing, I often describe it as doing a jigsaw by biting bits off the pieces to make them fit.

Last night Muslims attained the anniversary of one of the greatest miracle of Muhammed, Mi’raj. Mi’raj mean ascension. That miracle consist of two stages. The first part is Isra(Night Journey) and the second part is Mi’raj(ascension). In Isra Muhammed was taken from Mecca to Jerusalem. And in Mi’raj Muhammed was ascended to Heavens. Through that ascension Muhammed saw Paradise, Hell and further and beyond of these Kursiyy, Arsh-ı A’zam(The Highest Throne) and Sidrat-ul Muntaha(The last point of entity). Muhammed turn back through same way. All those cases happened in a short time of night. Here one of website about that miracle:

Jesus existed from before time. He is God.

Genesis 1:26:

Then God said, "Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness…

John 8:58
“Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!”

John 1:1
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was
God.

John 1:14
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Colossians 1:17
He is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

Jesus existed from before time. He is God.
Genesis 1:26:
Then God said, "Let us make mankind in** our** image, in **our **likeness…
It’s not a true plural in the way it is used in this verse. Moses was called Elohim, the plural form of god, in Exodus 7:1. This exist in semantic languages.

Muslim say “Peace be upon you”, in Arabic, As Salam Alaykum, kum, the plural form of you, and not ka, the singular form of you.
John 8:58
“Very truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!”
Before Abraham was, I am (Meaning existed, Before Abraham was I existed).

**
Many Muslims believe this about Muhammad, the Prophet of Islam.**

Abu Hurayra said, "I said, “Oh Messenger of God, when was Prophethood placed on you?” He said, “While Adam was between soul and body.” (Tirmidhi, Musnad Imam Ahmad and another version reported in al Tarikh al Kabir by al Bukhari)

Qatada narrated that the Prophet said, “I was the first among the people (The prophets) to be created and the last one to be sent.” (al Tabaqat Ibn Sad- Hasan) In this hadith people means Prophets.

Ali narrated that the Prophet said, “I was a Light in the Hands of my Lord, Mighty and exalted be He, forty thousand years before the creation of Adam.” (al Mawahid)
These words are not from Jesus.

Muslims do not believe Jesus is God.
