I do not see how Mother Teresa’s teachings are conducive to improving quality of life, but I personally have higher regard for philosophers and ethicists such as Peter Singer and John Rawls.
That tells us more about you than about her.😉

I apologize for inserting these distracting tangents in my posts. You keep responding to these instead of my main point, which is that you do not have a viable solution to the alleged problem of overpopulation that is not blatantly against the teachings of Christ. Not only that, but you have not maintained an open mind toward possible solutions, including the ones I have thrown out there, instead choosing to ignore any method of addressing the alleged problem.

It is obvious you have not taken the time to learn what exactly she did.

Now, I’m one of those poor women who should have listened and taken advantage of having a smaller family, and since I’m pregnant with my 4th child I’m clearly both a culprit and probably too ignorant to contribute here (that Masters in Education DID take a while to earn…), but I have some questions. Forgive me, because in addition to being one of those breeders, I’m also from Mississippi, but:
  1. This Ted Turner fellow that’s been discussed here- isn’t he the one who, concerns about cannibalism to the contrary, has been pushing for an increase in the use of biofuels? Biofuels, as I understand them, tend to take up a lot of useable farmland to grow crops for, you know, fuel, rather than food, right?
  2. Is Ridgerunner the same Ridgerunner who is a DJ on my most favorite radio station of all time, WEVL, Memphis?
  3. Who decides who gets to reproduce? Or is this a “we’re all parasites on the planet, we should ALL be dead” sort of idea? Once I know who gets to reproduce, I’ll be able to comment more extensively, because if me and mine are among those selected, then I’m ok with the whole thing.

Nope. Not the same Ridgerunner. There are a fair number of Ridgerunners in the world. But I would say there are no ridges to run around Memphis. So perhaps your favorite DJ originally came from Knoxville or someplace.

Your wish is granted as to No 3 above. You and your spouse are free to have as many children as you want. If lots of people want to remain childless because they think the sky is falling, your children and theirs will inherit the earth. It’s a better earth than they think it is, but that’s not your fault.

Ted Turner is this guy who made too much money in telecommunications, married Jane Fonda, thought it would be a good idea to colorize classic movies,(in the process neglected to give Frank Sinatra blue eyes) says very intelligent things, like calling Catholics “Jesus Freaks” in public settings. catholicleague.org/catalyst.php?year=2001&month=April&read=1203
For some reason, when he claims we will be forced to resort to cannibalism, people instead of looking at him with an odd expression of disbelief, get all nervous and think he is correct. Why is his opinion valid?

What do all these postings have to do with relating this stuff to the Catholic Faith?

overpopulation? population control? hah. mother teresa, “people won’t share.”

“overpopulation” = “i can’t get all the things i want because there are too many people around here”

try sharing and loving God you overpoopulated bafoons!

Flat out. “Population Control” is genocide and the advocates and adherents should be called to task for their crimes. That is my opinion

All we have to do is let them go first. 🙂
The problem is, they won’t do it.

I’ve pointed out again and again that those people who run around with their hair on fire, demanding “population control” never volunteer to take early departure themselves.😛

That is exactly what shows them as the selfish, uncompassionate, hypocritical people that they are.

The very idea that you should kill (or “limit”) other people so that you don’t have to share sounds like the thinking of a toddler. Mine, Gimme!

It’s all part of a mindset, “Oh, there are some poor people. I’ll lobby for a law forcing you to give them some of your money.”

As I have said, I have seen many a poster say we should tax the “rich” (meaning anyone with more than the poster has) more. I have never seen a post that said, “I have to work harder so I can pay my share.”

Uh-oh, here you go again. 😛

I had a “discussion” with a family member who borders on socialist. She was of the opinion that we should be taxed more and then the govt. could provide more services. I informed her that if she wanted to pay more, she could do so, the IRS does indeed accept donations when you file your return. Nothing was stopping her.

She got very quiet… 😃

Why do you think people who advocate population control are hypocrites? Let’s take Paul Ehrlich for example:
Both books made an impression on the teen-age Paul Ehrlich. He was already a naturalist himself, thanks to a mentor at the American Museum of Natural History in New York who encouraged him to study butterflies and publish papers while he was still a high-school student in New Jersey. Ehrlich went on to study zoology at the University of Pennsylvania. He married Anne in 1954 while in graduate school at the University of Kansas, and **they put their Malthusian principles into practice by limiting themselves to one child. Ehrlich had a vasectomy in 1963, shortly after getting tenure at Stanford. **
