How is Pentecost repeated?
Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful.
And kindle in them the fire of your love.

Each person is worthy of profound respect.

The gifts of the Holy Spirit are not manifested in such a dramatic or external manner, but we do receive the power of God within.

I recently attended a 3-day “prophecy school” run by the Catholic Charismatic miracle healer Damian Stayne. At the end of the final session he brought down the Holy Spirit on about 200 of us. It felt like Pentecost to me. That was a once-in-a-lifetime thrill. I will never forget the feeling.

The Holy Spirit certainly did manifest in a dramatic manner. The Holy Spirit is real and accessible to us all.

God gives His gifts as He wills. I pray the Prayer to the Holy Spirit as part of my morning prayer. It is actually the opening prayer for the Little Crown of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

The first question a person might want to ask is whether or not they believe God is all powerful. Can he do whatever he pleases? Are you open to God working in your life, not simply with words, but in reality? If not, what blocks are you placing in God’s way?
Do you believe in the Sacraments of the Church, and the power that you have received through those Sacraments?
God dwells in each of us by the power of the Sacraments that we have received. I keep going back to a sermon from when I was a child. The priest repeated the answer to the question he had asked, and the answer from another child who was about my age at the time. How big is God? God is so big that the universe cannot contain Him, and yet so small that He can fit in your heart.
Do you not know that you are the temple of the Holy Spirit? God does what ever He wills in the heavens and the earth. The question remains whether or not you are ready to open the gifts you have already received through the Sacraments of the Church.
Each of us together forms the Body of Christ. Christ is the Head. We are empowered by His Spirit.
When Our Lord ascended to heaven, He promised an advocate. We would not be orphans. The Holy Spirit dwells within each of us. How willing are we to allow Him to work through our lives?

Thank you sincerely for the above posts.

Currently, I am interested in Pentecost in the Upper Room. Acts 2: 1-13. 😃

A person cannot bring the Holy Spirit down on anyone. Only God can gift us.

This smacks of NQR to me. Question it. Also ’ prophecy ’ school?

Again no one can do that. Only God, to the Glory of God.

I pray the Holy Spirit Chaplet. It’s quite beautiful.

It’s true that only God can gift us with the Holy Spirit.
That doesn’t preclude the power of an individual’s prayer. I’m sure that Operations was talking about. Sometimes our words are inadequate in describing what is happening.

When the Charismatic Renewal talks about “prophecy” they are not talking about predicting the future. Prophecy, by definition is God speaking through a person.
This too is a charism, a gift of the Holy Spirit. It is often manifested in a person by certain signs. As with any charism, how a person responds remains within the control of the person receiving the gift.
A person with the gift of prophecy must be willing to submit that prophecy to discernment. At conferences I have attended, there is generally a committee of persons known to be gifted with discernment. One criteria has been that of maturity, of membership within the Charismatic Renewal of at least 10 years. Does the “prophecy” adhere to scripture and the magisterium? If it is a private revelation, how does it fit with the individual’s personal circumstances? God commands no person to sin.

I have never heard of “prophecy” school. It has been years since I have read New Covenant magazine which described prophecy, as well as other charisms, and how to recognize them. Generally, instruction is given informally by members of the Charismatic Renewal during teaching sessions at regular conferences or prayer meetings. Another charism that would be covered through such teaching sessions would be the gift of knowledge.

I understand all that Debchris. Thanks 👌

Here is that guys website, Damien Staynes.
It always concerns me when Catholics are posting testimonials to their businesses and activities for some reason.

Or charging big money

One of the ways the Holy Spirit is in our life is the simple gift of Tongues used in prayer to God. Praying in Tongues is known as a common gift because it is available to all.

You weren’t there. It did happen. No, “he” didn’t cause it, but he lets God work through him for those who are open to it. Prophecy and miracle healing are real. I have experienced them first hand.

We don’t need a middle man . The Holy Spirit will work with us, dwell within us,if we but ask, even alone, in the middle of the outback. We are, bodily, a temple of The Holy Spirit.

Isn’t God great!

May I gently suggest that you learn about some of the basics in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal where the Holy Spirit lets us …

Actually, I see your love for the Holy Spirit which is first. Am I right? Perhaps you would like to be a servant to the Holy Spirit. In reality, there are hundreds of places where the Gifts of the Holy Spirit can be used.

For now, we need to learn about the Holy Spirit’s gift of prayer Tongues. What comments/questions do you have about praying in Tongues?

I am returning to this post because when there is a charismatic speaker, our emotions respond – which is o.k. at that moment.

May I point out that the joy of Pentecost is not a once-in-a-lifetime thrill. Sometimes, there is the question about losing the Gift of Prayer Tongues. This gift is permanent, that is, whenever a person has yielded to the gift, the power to pray in tongues remains.

I tried hard to make myself docile to the Holy Spirit when our former Priest, a charismatic, laid hands on me and prayed. Other than “resting” or being slain by the Holy Spirit, I did not notice much. But, over time, everything in my faith life changed. I lost my fear of speaking of the faith, developed a devotion to adoration of Christ in the Blessed Sacrament, the Rosary, scripture reading, the divine Mercy Chaplet, evangelizing prisoners, handing out New Testaments, listening only to Catholic radio, regular confession.

All of this was to prepare me for what was to come. I now have amassed a “nightmare” medical resumé which includes two sinus surgeries, two back surgeries, two spinal fluid leaks (lumbar spine and brain), a knee surgery, three cancers, a stem cell transplant and now Graft-versus-Host-Disease from the transplant. And, because of myopia caused by long-term steroid use, I crashed my motorcycle, breaking my right shoulder and five right ribs into twelve pieces. I have been chosen to suffer, therefore, I am blessed!

How can this be? Well, as to the broken bones, it was just before Holy Week. Therefore, I had shoulder pain similar to what our Lord experienced carrying the cross, and rib pain where the lance was thrust through his side. Excruciating (the word stems from the cross) pain, but a truly spiritual connection with our Lord.

And where was the Holy Spirit in all of this?

Everywhere, every day.

Especially when I failed to notice.

To Job’s comforters, who would say that any lack of healing is due to a lack of Faith, I reply with the words of St. Paul, “In weakness, power reaches perfection.”
Throughout the N.T., Christ was always in the process of healing, on the way to heal somebody, or had just healed somebody. For some, healing is instantaneous.
Hold the physician in honor, for he is essential to you and God it was who established his profession. From God the doctor has his wisdom and the king provides for his sustenance. His knowledge makes the doctor distinguished, and gives him access to those in authority…Pray to God when you are ill…Then give the doctor his place lest he leave; for you have need of him…he too beseeches God that his diagnosis may be correct and his treatment bring about a cure. [From Sirach 38]
While I know that suffering does not come from God, our relationship to our Creator, and the indwelling Spirit definitely makes a difference in how we respond. We are able to embrace the Cross of Christ knowing what lies on the other side.

What I see in my life is God’s protecting hand. I will not recount the many incidents here.
On another thread, somebody posted about liking solitude. God sends me into the marketplace and brings people to me. One day my job may be simply to listen. Another day, it is a woman in the middle of a predominantly Muslim country asking me to pray for her healing. It could be a Baptist asking me to explain the rosary, or any number of different scenarios.

Praise the Lord.

Generally there are a few prerequisites for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit though may not be exactly in the particular order.

. Knowledge of God’s love.
. Believing.
. personal repentance and willingness to live the new life.
. Confess one’s sins.
. Surrender oneself to God.
. Pray for the infilling of the Holy Spirit.

And there is the prerequisite that when one is seeking the Holy Spirit Gift of Tongues used in prayer, one understands the what and how and why of this particular gift.
