Yes, but unfortunately, mary lived a looong time ago when the rules were very much different from today.
Eugenic Manifesto
Equality is man’s most dangerous myth. All men do not have an equal right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Only the ethical, moral and law abiding have a right to liberty; only the productive and creative have a right to life; and only the wise have a right to the pursuit of happiness.

In order to stabilize world population, we must eliminate 350,000 people per day.
Jacques Cousteau

American Eugenics Party platform
QUANTITY CONTROL The United States is already over-populated. We must stop all immigration and impose birth controls.

QUALITY CONTROL Those genetic types within each race and stock having better traits will be encouraged to produce more offspring and those having the lesser qualities will be restricted in the number of their offspring.

WHITE DEFECTIVES The caucasians are the controlling race in the world but the reason we do not have a Eugenic Society today is because of interfering, mentally deficient caucasians (White Defectives) in controlling positions (incorrect eugenic programs are a secondary cause). There are White Defectives who propose race mixing, while other White Defectives promote inter-caucasian strife - both prevent Eugenics but in different ways. White Defectives must be removed from controlling positions.

EXPERTS RULE History shows that equal vote for unequal people eventually destroys society. Experts are to be selected through various improved qualification tests; all are eligible to take the tests; more than one expert is to be in each important position; and rotation of leadership among the qualified. Experts make fewer errors in all phases of life. This “civil-service-test” selection of leaders will promote confidence and efficiency.

So for you the loss of a wife, mother and friend is worse than the loss of a clump of cells.
Ah, now we’re getting to the heart of things. You don’t think that the foetus is a human? Is that what you’re saying
Oh my god, i cannot believe i just asked that on a CATHOLIC forum no less.

my brain my just drip out of my ear.

people, i agree that abortion isnt chappy, but i do think that a woman should be given the right to CHOOSE what to do with her body.

after all, lets face it, she’s going to have to carry the child for 9 months, go through the irreversable rigours of child birth, and then either give up the child or raise a kid they weren’t prepared for.

damn some people are hypocrites.
Can you tone down the hyperbole?

An agnostic will go to heaven sooner than a Catholic does if they hold to their respective ideas on abortion. “Except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven” (Matt 5:20). “Go ye and learn what that meaneth: I will have mercy and not sacrifice” (Matt 9:13).

Which heaven?

And, how much sooner?

A member of the lds trying entering heaven:

God: Why does your church allow abortions, killing of unborn children?

lds member: We dont.

God: But under certain circumstances, you do.

lds member: No God, you have got it wrong.

God: Oh im wrong am i?
What is this mean then?
The Church opposes elective abortion for personal or social convenience. Our members are taught that, subject only to some very rare exceptions
This is still allowing the acts of abortion isnt it?

lds member: no it isnt…

There are some complicated pregnancies (rare though they may be) that inevitably lead to the death of the mother and the baby if not terminated. Those are the recorded instances in the reports probably. One particular example (of an ectopic pregnancy) was mentioned in the reports. Why do Catholics believe that it is better to let the mother and the baby die, when it is possible to save the life of the mother and let the baby die? What is the moral, scriptural, theological, or philosophical justification for this?

zerinus
Might I suggest you go read Humanae Vitae all the way through before misattributing malice.

Which heaven?

And, how much sooner?
“The publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you” (Matt 21:31), said the Lord to the hypocritical Pharisees. He did not tell them how much sooner.

What about Rape or Deformed Babies??
Rape: place the child up for adoption, or, if desired, keep the child.

Deformed: accept that God has called you to make their life as joyous as it can be, and know that deformity is not inability to contribute.

Inviability: comfort them in the few hours they have.

Ive seen people with babies as a result of some of the things mentioned about, and they are some of the most loving and supporting mothers.
Babies are the most beautiful and innocent presents God can give to us.

If so, then the Catholic Church has a moral obligation to inform them that that is the case. But evidently they haven’t.

Do you think medical professionals in Nicaragua have no knowledge of Church teaching on things like abortion and ectopic pregnancy? It’s as close as the nearest Catechism of the Catholic Church, easily accessable. (It’s free online.) The Church has done an excellent job making her basic teachings available to all.

Why then haven’t they? And why everyone here keeps telling me that that is the case?

Everyone has a moral obligation to speak out against what they consider injustice. Has anyone been protesting “the killer law” in Nicaragua? Have Mormons? You and I know nothing of the Catholic Church in Nicaragua. It is wise for us to stick to assertions on topics about which we have actual knowledge. Assumptions waste people’s time. I don’t understand your second question.

Well, that is the message that I am getting from the people here; and it also seems to be confirmed by what has come out of Nicaragua.

Any Catholic who says a woman with ectopic pregnancy is obligated to die with her baby is either uninformed, an apostate Catholic or an anti-Catholic. This is true in all countries, even Nicaragua.

Actually, you haven’t. The closest thing you have come to that is to suggest that the poor woman must at least suffer some form of permanent mutilation for her “indirect abortion” (your words) to be acceptable to the Catholic Church. Some consolation!

The moral theology behind Catholic teaching on treatment of ectopic pregnancy is a topic for the moral theology forum of CAF. No one is obligated to be Catholic! Mormonism provides little consolation on life issues from where I stand, so I can appreciate your last point.

We have. The news reports make that clear.

I’m also leaning toward the belief that Nicaragua has made proper treatment of ectopic pregnancy illegal. It’s not a very good “Catholic” country that disregards Church teaching.

I will believe it when I see it.

That’s an excellent policy. Sometimes however, we need to go looking in order to see.

The only people who can answer that is the Catholic Church. I am waiting for that with anxious expectation.

I’m curious myself. Would you consider posting in social justice? I bet they’d be able to uncover some information on “the killer law”.

Sometimes the only way to answer someone is to be blunt and forthright about it. Your protestations do not cut a lot of ice with me. Some people when, they start losing the argument, they start whining and complaining about how they are being treated. That is the only thing that is left for them to do.

zerinus
I know you’re gong to be as “blunt” as you choose on these boards, regardless of what I might say. I’m not called to be successful, just to try. Besides, I leave the ice-cutting to the Holy Spirit.🙂

Abortion is murder, no matter what anyone says. When an abortion is performed a child dies. Church leaders can try to twist the facts anyway they want but the fact is that abortion kills. You can’t say that a child can be killed if he/she was conceived as a result of rape or incest and then say that abortion is wrong. Either abortion is murder or it isn’t. Church leaders have the obligation to teach their members what God has taught us in the Bible and He has told us not to kill, period, end of discussion!

Somebody has defined a “religious fanatic” as someone who has “lost sight of his goal, but redoubled his efforts to get there!”

I like that definition.

Another topic for another thread. Going off on this kind of tangent detracts from the whole purpose of the thread already in progress.

It is wrong to pretend you can make these kinds of judgement calls. Such judgement is reserved for God and God alone.

I have no idea what you mean but you have the right to whatever your thoughts are. Abortion is the murder of a pre-born child. I remember many years ago in LDS Sunday School the teacher said that “today’s morality is yesterday’s immorality”. I think that is so right! Abortion is part of today’s morality, which still makes it wrong.

The two things we’ve seen you most vehemently defend on this Catholic board are:
  1. Polygamy
    and now
  2. Deliberate killing of an unborn child (to be fair, with "special circumstances’).
I don’t think anyone here is listening to your opinion about who’s “getting to heaven” or when.

Yes, you fit this description perfectly.

You are so right, truthsilence. I don’t have any opinion one way or the other about polygamy (maybe because I don’t know anyone who lives that way) but murder is another subject and I don’t understand how there can be special circumstances in the killing of a child, either before or after birth.

How about taking a gun to your mom’s head? I guess you think that that is OK, or at least a lesser crime.

I like it too. makes sense.

and as for MHalsey’s remark, i dont think zerinus has lost sight of their goal. they just have a different one from you, as do many others.
