According to any medical professionals I’ve heard from, abortion is unnecessary to save womens’ lives.
I missed that, didn’t answer it properly in my earlier post. That is not correct. I don’t know where you get your “medical advice” from; but my information is different.

No the reason many people think it is ok to have an abortion is that we live in a world of such indifference to life that we are not willing to make an effort to save the lives of the children we have here already.
So are you trying to say that we as Catholics are indifferent to the plight of the poor throughout the world?

Not at all, I just wanted to see if you where helping the poor kids in India in their plight for adequate sanitation!
he did say “we are not willing to make an effort to save the lives of the children we have here already”

“WE”, well now I really hate being lumped in with that group especially since it does not apply to me:)

in that case, how many toilets have YOU bought? 😃
LOL!
I dont buy toilets I provide “green” stuff.

But perhaps I can take up a collection among my orthodox neighbors for toilets 😃

Not all of “us” arent doing something (however small or large) so to lump “us” all in with people that do not care about the poor or underprivileged kids is wrong!

I am saying that we, as people, are too indifferent to the plight of others.
Really?? I have to disagree. However, let’s assume you’re right. Does that somehow make it OK to approve of abortions because people are suffering throughout the world?

reminds me of a bright classmate in highschool. she promised to become a doctor and help the poor & sick children in the country. well she did become a doctor and now she’s in london. when asked “i thought youd be helping the poor kids?”. she said she’d rather help herself first. 😃

saying is one thing, doing is another. i’m sure most pro-life folks dont really go out of their way to help people in need.

but being indifferent is not a modern phenomena as you imply, Valke. its an old human habit.

It is not because people are suffering thorughout the world that we “approve” of abortions. I am saying that the cavilar (sp?) use of abortion is an indicator of something that is wrong with our world. And I believe that something is that we have built up an indifference/callousness to the suffering of others.

Unfortunately, there is no shortage of examples.

Oh, I’d agree that it is as old as Adam. And I might even be convinced that we are less indifferent today then our ancestors were.

I can agree with most of what you say, but I see the indifference to the suffering borne out of the attitude our society has about abortion. If we can so easily dismiss out of hand the most defenseless (unborn), why would we as a society care about the health and well being of starving children in another part of the world. After all, abortion at its root is a product of selfishness.

That being said, we can’t simply dismiss the issues out of hand. We need to start somewhere. I for one, and my family, do our best with our limited resources. It may not seem like much, but it’s more than just a token effort.

well what did you folks do?
hmm, I debated on whether to answer this. I even listed a few things, but then I realized: I am not answerable to you.

Telling you is not the same as showing you. Why don’t you take a walk down to your local Catholic Charities office, soup kitchen, crisis nursery, SVdeP office, or respect life office to find out what people like myself are doing to help others in need.
