Personally…in my 57 years… I have been called:
- Fish-eater
- Mackerel-snapper
- Papist
- Devil worshiper
5…and a few un-mentionables.
The first three…no problem. I take them as “compliments”. The others…well, lets not go there.
The problem with many non-Catholics is that they are educated, nay, nay…they are “indoctrinated and bombarded with propaganda” with virtually no basis in fact…about Catholics and the Church. I grew up in the South…the Old South…and I got asked if I had a tail, or a 3rd eye under a flap of skin…by kids who’s “Preacher” told them Catholics have tails and 3rd eyes.
The ignorance and deception that is foisted on unknowing and gullible people, especially young and impressionable children is unbelievable to a point that borders on insanity. Frankly I have seen “tracts” and “so-called religious newspapers” that are so full of error and falsehoods that it was apparent that the writers were either under the influence of “acid”, or completely demented. They contained “almost” as much fact as the articles on this site:
theonion.com/content/archives Thats the “Onion”… a fake news site…some of the stories are funny…but you can bet there are people out there that think the stories are “true”. Millions of people actually “buy” the Enquirer…so it just goes to show…
Forrest Gump was RIGHT!!
Sad, isn’t it?
