Reminds me of mostarda in Italy. I LOVE those, especially with Swiss or French raclette. Very unhealthy, but delicious. The preserves, not the freeze dried stuff, which isn’t all that bad.

You’re very brave! 😄 😉

I don’t think that I would want to try and eat something like that…

Just looking at the photo makes me think, “Blech!” 😫

They don’t look too appealing to me, but who knows, they could taste like chicken or filet mignon, and then we’d all be in for a big surprise!! LOL!! 😁

That’s quite fascinating and pretty amazing, to learn about such ants. I didn’t even know such creatures existed. I wouldn’t have known about them, unless you posted this information for us. 🙂

You learn something new every day here! ❤️

Not quite ants, but here’s the “other half” of my BBLT sandwich from Denny’s.

Can you just pass it over on a plate please Steph?
I’ll have it with this coffee by the heater.

No problem. Enjoy.

When sis and I go get our hair done, often afterwards we will go to Denny’s. We have a friend who is manager there. (Aside- member of his family is having a Baptism in July to which we are invited)

We always get something not directly on the menu. Thus BBLT. There are 10 slices of bacon on that sandwich.

Ants are interesting creatures. They even will keep aphids like we do cows. I do wish they would quit invading my house though. 🤣

Yours too? In summer here there’s a little stream coming in sometimes to the kitchen sink ,onto the tap to drink the moisture at the end .There are wee little ones, and I wish I didn’t have to halt them.

CHOCOLATE COVERED ANTS
1, 742 ants, lg. size (if they are sm., use 2, 044)
3 c. melted chocolate

Catch ants at a picnic site and keep them in a glass jar to which you have added a teaspoon of sugar to keep them happy. (Unhappy ants are liable to go sour before processing.) At home, pick up each ant with tweezers and remove entrails with a small, very sharp knife edge. This will take about 400 hours.

If you are in a hurry, eliminate this step; you’ll never know the difference. Dip each ant into melted chocolate and place to drain on waxed paper. If any of them are still able to crawl off the paper, let them go – be a good sport!!

I’ll have to try that. Is it acceptable to substitute termites for the ants?

I’m sure you can. The tweezers will come in handy for pulling off the wings unless you prefer to leave them on.

Oh no. There’s no bitterness. Think more along the lines of crunchy with a little nuttiness. 😛 🤣

Sorry…how about this instead?

Although it does seem a shame to have all that good nutrition just walking into your kitchen and waste it.

“A 3.5-ounce serving of red ants supplies about 14 grams of protein, according to the National Geographic website. The same serving of red ants also supplies 6 milligrams of iron, which is 71 percent of the 8 milligrams men need each day and about one-third of the 18 milligrams women require on a daily basis. Ants are also a good source of calcium.”

I’ll take the sweet. You can keep the ants. I’ll send mine over too.
