From the perspective of the Chickens certainly such an option would be on the order of a vice. A break with a long tradition.

Where as the Turkeys propose that* virtue* lies in that which is less likely to tempt to immoderate eating. Hence they answer that a smaller bird is thus more fitting to virtue.

I answer that: Times up you Turkey * ~ into the oven! *

Temperance* can be observed eating either bird ~ for the virtue is in man not in feathered fowl…

…and you taste much better! …specially with all the trimmings…

(*that which is appropriate to a Holiday)

There is nothing wrong with Turkey. Temperance and will power is what is needed.

Turkey also has more flavor than chicken 😉

How absurd
to kill a bird
for our food!
It’s kinda rude
to the little dude.

just kidding - I wrote that sixteen years ago during a vegetarian phase 🙂

Actually turkey contains chemicals that are like natural anti-depressants, and it can help you regulate your appetite if you eat it at least once a day. It is one of those foods that does good things for us. Chicken tastes great but has no such health benefits.

🙂

My thought is, there is no morality or compassion in killing both.

Anything except

tofurkey! Ick.

Bring on the turkey!

The morality of eating chicken instead of turkey for Thanksgiving? Hmm. I guess that depends on how the turkey was slaughtered.

🙂

"Happy Halal Thanksgiving Pamela Geller, American Thinker

Did you know that the turkey you’re going to enjoy on Thanksgiving Day this Thursday is probably halal? If it’s a Butterball turkey, then it certainly is – whether you like it or not."…

"Has your Thanksgiving turkey been sacrificed to idols?
Surprise! America’s favorite meal may be secretly dedicated to Allah

As you sit down with your family on Thanksgiving and consider offering a prayer of gratitude, be aware the turkey at the center of the table may have already been “blessed” – in the name of Allah."…

A little note regarding Muslims…

CCC:

“…Muslims; these profess to hold the faith of Abraham, and together with us they adore the one, merciful God…”

But I will also add --lets not de-rail this fine thread 🙂 The subject is still what was said in the first post…oh and happy Thanksgiving to all!

The Turkey that will be pardoned …I wonder…did he suggest Chickens? Or did he make some other argument?

It was posted to go along with the lightness of the thread, thus the 🙂 and was not meant to derail. On that note, I offer this:

"A young man named John received a parrot as a gift.

The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary.

Every word out of the bird’s mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity. John tried and tried to change the bird’s attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to ‘clean up’ the bird’s vocabulary.

Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot. The parrot yelled back. John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even more rude. John, in desperation, threw up his hand, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer.

For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed. Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a minute. Fearing that he’d hurt the parrot, John quickly opened the door to the freezer. The parrot calmly stepped out onto John’s outstretched arms and said “I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I’m sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior.”

John was stunned at the change in the bird’s attitude.

As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird spoke-up, very softly, “May I ask what the turkey did?” ’

Happy Thanksgiving, all!
