It’s sad to think of anyone being treated unkindly, especially young kids who are only trying to go out and do what they’ve been taught is the most noble and righteous thing in the world to do.

I have to say though, a few weeks ago I got a little irked by the Jehovah’s Witnesses who stopped by while hubby and I were busting our humps in the yard.

I was standing there with sweat pouring off of me, a chunk of the concrete we were removing, in each hand. The lady walked up and started to chat. Normally I enjoy it very much, talking with people about issues of faith. After we had exchanged a bit of small talk, I told her I was familiar with the teachings of her church and that I was very happily, active Catholic. She looked at me, said nothing, and kept standing there. Finally, she turned to my husband and asked him if he would like to compare scripture verses. He said: “Nope, don’t want to compare any scriptures” She says: “you don’t want to read the Bible”? “Nope. Don’t wanna read the Bible” She says: “Not to debate”. “Nope. Not to debate. Just not interested”.

OH BROTHER!!! A part of me wanted to put everything down and ask her to come on in, have a drink of water and lets talk about the scriptures. At the same time I was irritated by her lack of timing. But Sheesh! Leave it to my husband to give the brush off like THAT!

We all shared a minute or two playing with the dogs (the little girl that was with her loved my dogs) and then hubby and I sort of went about what we were doing, and she finally decided it was time to leave.

It was awkward. I’m sure the LDS missionaries have the same thing happen. I’d be willing to bet they’d offer to pick up a shovel to help. Unless they were wearing a dress. 😉

Off topic, but JW’s tend to go as couples and bring their kids. Sort of puts a crimp on any rudeness, on the part of mishies or people they try to talk to.

LDS mishies tend to do favors in order to make people feel obligated to listen.

Interesting difference in strategies.

Hey, me too Allweather! My two oldest sons!

I think thirdnep11 said it best. We regard missionary work as a duty to God and our fellow man. So don’t be mean to the missionaries when they come visit.
I agree. I would never abuse Mormon missionaries, though I find the organizational aspects of the program offensive, for several reasons.

Someone mentioned the military service. Personally I am strongly opposed to our foreign policy, and have very low opinion of most of our elected officials. However, I spent 21 years in the military, 2 of them in Vietnam, and I remember very well what that was like, skulking around, ashamed of being a military person, at the tender age of 21. We have to remember that the Mormon missionary kids are just kids, and they think they’re doing a noble thing.

I understand that Mormon kids got deferments from the draft back in the 60s by going on missions. Anybody know if that is true?

DIscuss any differences you may be unclear on, but do not let them dominate the conversation stand your ground and make it clear you are no interested. Be for warned the will speak of many things mainly in the book of mormon that you will probably not be familiar with. they do this to probe you. good luck!😉

Yeah, read “chloroform in print” BEFORE contact. Keep in mind the possibility of a Viking invasion of North America as a template for the :bigyikes: while reading it, and I guarantee it won’t convert you unless you have Nazi tendencies.

Let them speak freely and consider prayerfully everything they tell you. Read everything they give you. Open up your mind and heart and you’ll have a wonderful experience!

I might consider doing that if I thought that they were being up front about what their church actually believes, and that they would reciprocate in kind when I shared with them about my faith in the True Church.🙂

I most definetly have a strong opinion on the “work” they do. They are out deceiving people and leading them astray. Furthermore, LDS love to target undereducated Catholics as evidenced by where most of their missionaries are located in the world.

I’m sure you’re next protest will be that they are not decieving people. I’m including purposely witholding key Mormon tenets as another form of deception. So I’ll head you off there and ask you just when these missionaries discuss:

There are multiple gods
God was once a man
Men can become gods of their own planets
Kolob
Spirit children
Jesus was created by physical sex between God and Mary
Jesus and Satan were spirit brothers
Heavenly Mother
Curse of Cain
Jesus was married to multiple wives
Celestial polygamy

as a starter list. None of these are in the six missionary discussions. I also realize these would be considered “anti-Mormon questions” used to demean you and bash your religion, right? I get it. Hey, these are your beliefs and if you want to call them anti-Mormon questions, go ahead. I just know the missionaries cannot provide the “meat before the milk”. That is deception plain and simple, also called lying by omission.

Therefore, all of your converts must discover these blasephemies once its too late. My protestant sister-in-law is one such person. She was horrified to discover what she had gotten herself into and felt lied to when she found out about “men can become gods of their own planets.” Usually this is why the LDS have such dismal retention rates.

Until LDS include ways for investigators to learn of and ask questions about these types of “doctrines” BEFORE their baptisms, I will always denounce the LDS missionary program as purposely deceptive to get converts.

I KNOW the missionary program is all about the numbers. You can’t try to tell me otherwise. Are you forgetting that I am married into a Mormon family? The missionaries were always over at my husband’s parent’s house (FIL is a bishop) and all I heard were questions to the missionaries about “How many baptisms do you have and are there any pending?” Then I would listen as the missionary would talk about people backing out. My mother-in-law would lament “Oh, they must not have a ‘teachable’ spirit.” I guess I didn’t, either!

The first question of my missionary sister-in-law was about how many baptisms she got. None, I Thank God especially since she went to a predominantly Catholic country:eek: .

Besides, there are plenty of ex-Mormons that were missionaries that post their stories all over the internet about all the pressure they recieved to “get their numbers up” etc. Baseball baptisms, anyone?

RCIA to become a Catholic takes nearly a year. People are allowed to ask any question they want and topics covered include: pedophile priests, the Inquisition, etc. You can just Google some parishes’ RCIA schedules. We WANT informed converts.

Instead it seems since there are only 6 Mormon discussions and you can become a full (uninformed) Mormon in 2 weeks or less, where’s the fire? Slow down and get some quality converts by really teaching them what Mormonism is all about.

I would seriously have no problem with that. It is the current deception which I have a huge problem with.
I would really like thirdnep11 to respond to this because this goes to the deep roots of just what the LDS believe but can not be defended scripturally.

Catholics should pray for people such as these people because of there heretical doctrines.
