It’s sad to think of anyone being treated unkindly, especially young kids who are only trying to go out and do what they’ve been taught is the most noble and righteous thing in the world to do.
I have to say though, a few weeks ago I got a little irked by the Jehovah’s Witnesses who stopped by while hubby and I were busting our humps in the yard.
I was standing there with sweat pouring off of me, a chunk of the concrete we were removing, in each hand. The lady walked up and started to chat. Normally I enjoy it very much, talking with people about issues of faith. After we had exchanged a bit of small talk, I told her I was familiar with the teachings of her church and that I was very happily, active Catholic. She looked at me, said nothing, and kept standing there. Finally, she turned to my husband and asked him if he would like to compare scripture verses. He said: “Nope, don’t want to compare any scriptures” She says: “you don’t want to read the Bible”? “Nope. Don’t wanna read the Bible” She says: “Not to debate”. “Nope. Not to debate. Just not interested”.
OH BROTHER!!! A part of me wanted to put everything down and ask her to come on in, have a drink of water and lets talk about the scriptures. At the same time I was irritated by her lack of timing. But Sheesh! Leave it to my husband to give the brush off like THAT!
We all shared a minute or two playing with the dogs (the little girl that was with her loved my dogs) and then hubby and I sort of went about what we were doing, and she finally decided it was time to leave.
It was awkward. I’m sure the LDS missionaries have the same thing happen. I’d be willing to bet they’d offer to pick up a shovel to help. Unless they were wearing a dress.
