Me too. I suspect the fact it’s getting a lower rating on Rotten Tomatoes than The Last Stand is at least partly because people expect more from Bryan Singer as a director, than they do from Brett Ratner. 😛
 
I watched half of The Bravados with Gregory Peck last night. Hoping to watch the rest tonight.
 
Grave of the Fireflies (1988)

An excellent ‘5-star’/‘2-thumbs-up’ movie that I highly recommend and yet would never want to watch again.
 
I recently watched The Conjuring 2. Not bad.

(Plus the guy was telling the little girl that was being disturbed by the demon about how the crucifix protects him, etc. It was a nice moment 🙂 )

I generally don’t watch to many horror movies but my friend convinced me to watch the first Conjuring with him. Scared me but I thought it was good enough to see the second. Watched it at the theater yesterday. Maybe not as scary as the first but it was still tense.

I genuinely like these movies for the character aspects. The Ed and Lorraine are such a cool couple that we don’t often get to see in movies. I feel these films actually strengthened my faith, which is rare for Hollywood.

The scene where Ed tells the story about the crucifix he wears was great. Another great scene is when he has his back to the little girl who transforms into the demon and he holds the Crucifix out behind him. Really strong imagery.

Too bad the Warrens seem to be frauds in real life.

I actually found this one scarier! And yes, Ed and Lorraine in the movie are lovable characters. I don’t know much about them in real life except that she’s still alive 🤷
 
Finding Dory

We went all out with ticket to the theater that has the reclining seats, popcorn, sodas, and candy! The overall experience was a refreshing mini vacation for this mama!

I have a soft spot for Dory who’s memory loss problem uplifts her to take life day-by-day. Even with a handy-cap like short term memory loss she is able to create a loving family a friends.
 
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014)

Basically a big dumb action movie, and I saw the “big businessman who is a lackey of the villain” angle coming from a mile away. Still, it could have been a lot worse.
 
Two recent martial arts movies.

First, No Retreat, No Surrender. It was… well… it was really bad. I mean really, really bad. The acting was atrocious. The story was ridiculous. I mean, at one point when this kid’s dad is mad at him for getting in a fight, he goes to Bruce Lee’s grave and prays to him for help. :banghead: However, as a lover of bad movies, I recommend it if you’re like me.

The other one: Miami Connection. Awesome. Terrific. Perfect. Can’t say enough about this one. Keep in mind, going in, it’s hammy, pretty badly acted, and so on, but the cumulative effect of it all is actually beautiful. It’s so naive, and in a way, innocent. I just loved it, and highly recommend it.
 
Captain Phillips, starring Tom Hanks.

Finally got around to watching this Monday evening (yep on the 4th). I was originally going to go downtown to watch fireworks, but Mother Nature put a damper (quite literally) on those plans. I poked my head out my front door at 8 pm and it was raining steadily. So I decided to stay in and watch Captain Phillips. Rented it on Google Play - I was using up the last of a promotional credit.

Great performance by Tom Hanks, and also by Barkhad Abi, who played the leader of the pirates. Interesting looking at the Wikipedia page that both Hanks and Abi were nominated for several awards … Hanks was shut out when it came time to actually give out the awards, but Abi won Best Supporting Actor at the BAFTAs.
 
Just saw “Risen” over the weekend. It’s out on DVD now. LOVED it! One of the best movies I’ve seen in a long time. It’s the story of Jesus’s resurrection and the 40 days that he appeared to the Apostles before he ascended into Heaven. The twist is that the story is told from the point of view of an unbeliever - a Roman tribune who is present at the Crucifixion and then is assigned to find Jesus’s body to disprove the rumors circulating about Jesus rising from the dead. There are parts that gave me goosebumps.
