I saw an R-rated movie last year called Monsters, and it could have easily gotten away with a PG-13 if it had taken out a few F-bombs and a couple of gory images, both of which are obviously CGI, but there’s hardly any violence in general. There’s also a morning-after scene (proceeding a character getting drunk the night before) that’s not even as racy as a similar scene in the PG-13 X-Men: Days of Future Past.

The rating all depends on whichever panel of parents happens to see films under review. It seems to me there ought to be a more standardized method, and a wider review process.
 
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines

Not bad. It’s definitely the silliest and most tongue-in-cheek of the bunch, but I enjoyed it for that. I didn’t like T2’s overlong, cynical action sequences, but this one doesn’t overstay its welcome. I even found the T-X much cooler than the T-1000. With that said, the pro-life themes from the first two are missing, and a desecration of a cemetery didn’t sit well with me. Kidnapping is always wrong, and the protagonists are practically forced into this situation (as they are in the first two). In real life, the end doesn’t always justify the means, but in the Terminator movies, the end is known. So could the end justify the violent means in this case? It definitely raises some interesting questions.
 
Terminator: Salvation

It’s a decent story that could have been told better, but for what it is, it’s okay. Though it feels like an overly-serious, post-apocalyptic Transformers as times. Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington) is the most interesting aspect.

Yes, I liked Sam Worthington’s portrayal, as well. To me the movie feels like an extended episode of a TV Sci-Fi show like the Stargate series. It’s not bad, but like you say it could have been better. 🙂
 
Thomas: Close to Jesus

Rented this on VUDU. Rather well-done TV movie - produced in Italy - that is mostly speculative on how the Apostle Thomas reacted in the aftermath of the Crucifixion. It picks up right after the Crucifixion, as Jesus’ body is being carried to the tomb.
 
And oldie but a definitely goody is “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir.” I love to watch it on rainy Sunday afternoons. It’s the perfect blend of fantasy, humor and romance.
 
Just watched Interstellar again with my daughter, this time on DVD.

Still enjoyed it. While not explicitly religious, a major theme is that Love is a transcendent, and a force that is not subject to time or death.

Plus, spaceships!
 
I had company in town this weekend, and we did some movie watching.

On Friday we started to watch Pier Pasolini’s The Gospel According to St. Matthew but after about 20 minutes, my guests decided it was too slow-moving and asked to watch something else. We settled on a TV-movie, Thomas: Close to Jesus, which is a fictionalized account of what the titular Apostle may have experienced between the crucifixion and seeing the Risen Lord face to face.

Today we watched the Fred Astaire / Judy Garland musical Easter Parade. Fun, colorful and tuneful.

“Interstellar”, upon seeing it again, really, really reminds me of “Contact.” Not sure how intentional that was, but it really made me appreciate “Contact” all the more.
 
My dh and I rewatched Ben Hur yesterday. What a great film. It deserves all the Oscars it received. I cry buckets every time I watch it. :crying: Just fantastic filmmaking by William Wyler. :yup:

And I saw The Passion of the Christ. It’s certainly food for thought about what Christ went through to redeem me.

I haven’t seen Interstellar since it was in theaters. It was so ambitious, intense, and emotionally stirring that I didn’t really want to see it again soon afterwards. I’ll probably watch it again.
 
X-Men: Days of Future Past

If it’s not the best comic book movie I’ve ever seen, it’s certainly one of the most powerful.

Highly implausible, but it’s a lot of fun, though there is some questionable subject matter for a family movie.
 
Just finished “It Happened One Night”, and it was really good!

If you are ever in the mood for a really classic romantic comedy (and you are not averse to old movies), this is definitely worth watching.

We went to see Cinderella in the theater. We dresses up as Cinderella … They now have Cinderella clothes for mommies at Kohls!!! It was not as sucessful as when we went to see Big Hero 6 because the little princesses still do not like films with humans in them. However the littlest princess was dancing in the walk way … Which made Prince Charming (my husband - who we spared dressing up) and I both tear up a little. Prince Charming will have to privately wear his Prince Charming tee-shirt when we have high tee with the giraffes and polar bears though.
