hello mdgspencer,

I think that one has to understand the phenomenom of mental denial. When I first witnessed a situation of a person using mental denial I was stunned. How could a person’s mind avoid an obvious truth to such an amaizing level of denial?

I have heard that Al Capone, during his final days in prison, kept mumbling about all the good he had done in his life. He continually went on convincing himslef that all the people he had killed needed to be killed.

When one continually tells themselves that what they are doing is right, no matter how obviously evil it may be, they eventually come to believe themselves. This mental denial can be very powerful. Denial can also be used as a group.

Had Hitler confessed to himself that what he was doing was evil, he would have had to repent and turn from what he was doing. Instead Hitler, and others like him, continually must reconfirm to themselves in their mind that what they are doing is right. This is denial. They convince themselves that the Jews are inferior and need to die. They convince themselves thay they the “Arians” are superior and need to rule the world and so on. In this way they can justify their actions to themselves and continue on in their evil.

Look at how the Muslim world has responded with imense irrational denial to any thought or mention that violence in Islam may not truly be the will of their Quran. I see a great deal of mental irrational denial in their desire and actions to convince themselves and convince the world that all this Muslim killing going on is what their god desires of them. I see this imensly overboard Muslim reaction to the Pope’s speech as a use of human mental denial to reconfirm in their own minds and the minds of their comrads, that what they are doing is the will of thier god and not an evil.

People use irrational denial when they experience any sence that what they are doing is wrong but they have no desire or intention of repenting to do what is right.

I think you should look into the basic phenomenom of human mental denial to understand “the mystery of Hitler”.

Hitler’s in hell and he deserves it, the loser, the new Judas.

I am not a psychologist, theologian or historian. However, I have read a great deal about Hitler. Whatever else might have been, he was profoundly wrapped up in himself. He was his own universe. At the same time, and perhaps as a result, he was sociopathic. He was quite a talented person, as Albert Speer makes clear. He was also charismatic and, contrary to what many believe, could be quite personable and charming. I am persuaded he was not insane. He scoffed, for instance, at Himmler’s racist cant, privately. He was incredibly manipulative and could spot a useful person with ease. He was also very lucky.

It might be no more complicated than that; a highly talented man who was totally self-absorbed and was seemingly without conscience. If that is the case, there are likely a good number of Hitlers among us today.

Just a note

You, I and the rest of humanity deserve to be in hell for our sins.

Because we do not know his heart, we cannot say how bad Hitlers actions were. Indeed, it is infinitely worse for someone to deliberately look at Gods law and defy it, than for someone who doesnt know to break it.

Peace and God Bless.

Off topic- Al capone did not die in prison. if he was mumbling, it might have had to something to do with untreated syphllis eating his brains.

NOT his heart, his mind and soul we don’t know. All the heart does is pump blood.

You have no proof Hitler’s soul is in hell. We ought to be careful not to judge another’s eternal fate.
Not when you consider the fact, he ended his own life and THAT is a sin. Got it?

We cerrtainly can say how bad his actions were! And we can back that up with photographic and other physical evidence – and to this day the testimony of survivors and soldiers who liberated the camps.

We cannot say what he thought. If you wish to create an insanity defense, you may. But you can’t simply brush away the deaths of millions of innocent people by saying we can’t judge his actions.

Hello All,

I have to agree with those who beleive that Hitler is in hell. If the Church can assure us that Judas Iscariot is in hell then I beleive the Church can assure the world that Hitler is in hell, if they so desire to inquire of it. If the Church has the power to assure us as to who is in heaven (Saints) then the Church, if they desire it, has the power to assure us who is in hell, seems only logical. Hitler seems like a guy who would be similiar to a companion of Judas Iscariot.

Anathema,

He who dares to despise our decision, let him be stricken with anathema maranatha, i.e. may he be damned at the coming of the Lord, may he have his place with Judas Iscariot, he and his companions.

There is not the least reason to think this was so. You don’t have to presume demonic possession to explain what they did.

For what may be the best consideration of what motivated Hitler, read John Lukacs’ book “The Hitler of History.”
Fr. Karl:

I think that Goldhagen’s book Hitler’s Willing Executioners - Ordinary Germans and the Holocaust gives a pretty good picture what happens when the worst of Protestant Anti-Semitism (Where Jews could be Dejudaized by conversion) changes into the worst of Secular Judeophobia (where the only answer is to get rid of the Jews).

Once people’s incentives to figure out reasons to get along with Jews was taken away, the mass slaughter of the Jews was one very pursuasive demagogue away.

I’ve found myself reflexively standing with my arm outstretched and saying “Seig Heil!” watching one of Hitler’s Speeches on the History Channel. It would have made sense if I believed in any of the NAZI tenents or even spoke German (I speak a few words and that’s about it).

After that experience, and seeing the way Hitler could “Mezmerize” massive crowds of people, I’ll place my vote with the Pope’s Exorcist.

Your Brother in Christ, Michael

Hitler’s evil was far worse than nice, clean, human emotions like hate. He didn’t hate the Jews, that was what was wrong with him. They were simply of no use to him, so he tried to eliminate him. It is the sin of the modern era, utilitarianism, an idea that probably finds its origins in capitalism, and is taken to insane heights by capitalism’s twin sons, socialism and communism.

And by the way, Mao didn’t “Probably match Stalin” as someone said, he killed twice as many. Full 60% of Communism’s 100 million were under Mao.

And in the Cultural Revolution, some of the people doing the executions ate the bodies of their victims–because of a heretical Taoist belief that eating certain parts of the human body, such as the liver, can make you an Immortal. Special.

So, while the Koreans get to complain about what the Japanese did, I think China sorta, kinda lost the right, considering they did ten times worse. Which reminds me, the Japanese certainly never mass-murdered on anything like Hitler’s scale, as someone alleged above. They were certainly horribly bad, and committed terrible atrocities, but don’t let’s blame them for what they didn’t do, all right?

When did the Church pronunce Adolph Hitler is in hell?

Well.

You know what I was trying to get at. 🙂

Proof?

Every person who has ever existed has a soul in need of Gods Love and Mercy.

That includes Hitler, and for you to judge him is infinitely worse, for we should forgive others that the Lord might forgive us.

Peace and God Bless.

Objective sin, but his personal culpability is unknown to any of us.
But he did suicide which is a sin, and now that he died, he couldn’t repent for that (cue The Beatles’ I Am A Loser).

Were you there at the exact instant before he died? Did you see how his soul appeared before the Judge? Do you know if he repented before his judgement?
