The problem with the herd immunity practice is that no one knows for sure if a specific person could be just asymptomatic/a carrier or would die from it. I mean we could safely guess that an elderly or immunocompromised individual should be isolated.

But what about a twenty something healthy person with no chronic issues? He could just go about as usual due to this herd immunity thing. Then maybe days later, he finds himself down with several symptoms of covid and eventually dies. Therr have been covid cases of young people with zero health issues who died. You never know.

I am also very concerned about the economy and people not having jovs or feeding their families and all, but there is also thr concern of more people getting infected or worse, dying from it. I see a lot of good and well meaning Catholics hampering on about lifting the lockdown due to thr economy and just do herd immunity, but herd immunity seems like drawing lots to me at best. I do not like the mentality, well if you die, tough luck. It’s unChristian.

How long do we keep this up? Another month? Thru the end of the year? Until we find a vaccine? What about vaccines for the mutations?

How long do we wait and what is the end of this? Until every life is spared from possible death? Infection? Until so much if the world’s economy is destroyed that the impact will be so much greater?

Should we stop now and risk second and third wave? Clearly more will die, so we must continue with this new normal for longer.

The virus continues to shine in its veracity. First it was 14 days. Now its 21. First it was 6 feet. Now it is 27. First was only aerosolized but now it lingers in the air for hours.

We must flatten the curve but heck that doesn’t matter because if we let up being at home at all forever the 2nd 3rd and 4th waves will kill billions more.

Cynical rant over.

Here is a recent study from China, they are being heavily peer reviewed (for want of a better word ) atm.

The virus and soles of feet travel on the soles of shoes and its extent of travel through the air needs to be considered well.

One of my jobs has involved collecting samples from different agricultural growing sites. Between sites we walk the soles of our shoes through bleach baths to stop the spread of diseases.

Only people with diagnosed ‘foot in mouth’ disease should need a chlorine footbath at the ready. Regular handwashing should work for the rest of us, I hope.

Such a little cutie. AKA petrie dish.

All kidding aside, it is amazing how much dirt and germs we track into our houses because we don’t take our shoes off as soon as we cross the threshold. And we track that stuff all through the house.

As an experiment, put flour on the bottom of your shoes, then walk through your house. That will give you a good idea of the bacteria and viruses and germ you track in every day and how far they travel through your house.

Hand washing does not stop the spread of a disease or virus stuck to your shoe.

🦠🥾 It is good we are learning more and more about the nature of this virus.

So what’s your proposal? I honestly dont know the answer, but i still dont think this herd immunity thing would work on each and every so called healthy individual. Like i said before, i am also very concerned about the economy especially being from a 3rd world country.

As a nurse, I take off my shoes at the door and put them in a dedicated place where nobody else will touch them.
That was back when I was worried about things like bowel flora and MRSA or whatever.

Now I take them off in the garage and keep them there.

I have a VERY strict no shoes of any kind policy in my house. As an aside, I love pictures of mid-century America like one below but I cringe at times because the people always seem to be wearing their shoes in the house…

This picture is unrealistic in myriad ways. Moms in pearls and heels Are you kidding me🤦🏻‍♀️

It was a bit before my time. I love the aesthetic but agree that it is unrealistic.

We dressed up for Easter yesterday. My wife wore a nice dress, I put on a collared shirt and a sport coat, and my kids wore their nice Easter clothes. We all lasted about fifteen minutes before changing back into comfy clothes. Got some nice pictures though.

What’s wrong with a traditional nuclear family where dad is the bread-winner, the mom is a stay-at-home mom and wife, where the family dresses nice? Oh wait, progressive liberals believe this is triggering and misogynistic. A family can be anything but that.

Okay, duly noted.

However, the picture in, and, of itself, does not mean that potentially the family didn’t just come back from Sunday Mass or is awaiting friends and family for a get-together. Right?

Oh I am totally for tradition, family and otherwise. It’s just funny the way families were depicted in the fifties.Leave it to Beaver,a popular show back then.June was always dressed in heels and pearls, even while dusting🤣Now coming from a family of six kids,my mom was usually in a house dress and often had rollers in her hair. Sunday Mass and trips downtown to shop were when she dressed up .Even then she changed out of her heels after a few hours😉

Ah okay. Yes, cleaning in heels I’m sure is unpleasant. I do also love the nostalgia of the fifties. It was to me, a simpler time. No 24/365 news cycle, no increasing rate of technological intrusion, families spending time with each other and not their phones! 😇

This is no longer a Coronavirus thread…this is now a 1950s family thread.

Take that Coronovirus!!!
