The new Coronovirus, Covid-19 and its spread globally

Here is a question about immunity.

There are 2 possible ends to lockdown and getting back to normal, one is a vaccine, another is immunity.
For the immunity question, I want to leave aside the emerging condition in South Korea where people who have had the virus and then tested negative, are now testing positive again.

Immunity, how does this work if looking at flu for example, we, as a global people, continue getting it yearly and a new vaccine is offered yearly for the flu with its new strains.
Immunity with the common cold, we do not have a vaccine , it is a virus, we continue to get it.

Will Covid 19 need an annual vaccine for its new and different strains and continue circling the globe as the common cold and flu do.

I think that this is one of the things we don’t know. I have read that researchers believe COVID 19 is mutating more slowly than the flu, but I don’t think we know if it is mutating such that new vaccines will be required.

Shinges is herpes zoster virus, also known as Chicken Pox - the herpes zoster remains inactive in the nerve cells.

Human gammaherpesvirus 4 more comingly known as Epstein Barr Virus sits in the B Cells (part of the white blood cells, lymphocytes)

They are two different viruses but can come back to bite you when you least expect it.

Remember Sweden? Sweden didn’t have a lockdown but it’s neighbours did. And you really can see the difference.

Immunity for different viruses trigger differing amounts of immunity and can be very specific or more general depending on the virus.

Typical flu tends to trigger an immunity lasting about a year. The various flu types also mutate just enough so that you need to be revaccinated for the newest mutation.
Common colds are various viruses that mutate quickly and immunity seems to last only months in some cases…in others it is because it has mutated enough to no longer be recognized. Because of its rapid mutation, a vaccine would be pointless. It just changes too much and too often to stay on top of it.

Being a new novel virus, we just don’t have answers yet about Covid. It seems to have already mutated and we don’t know if immunity to one kind…from having recover from it…will confer immunity to the other strains showing up. We also haven’t had it around long enough to know if immunity will last months or years, since it hasn’t been here that long yet.

The reemergence of a patient that tested negative then later positive again is due to the false negative rate of the test…around 30% I heard, or whether they are infected with a different strain, or if they have gotten the virus again after beating it (unlikely, but possible).

These all take time to find out no matter how loudly we demand they hurry!

Thanks all for answering my question, I thought how does immunity work with other viruses. It really doesnt make any sense pushing a herd immunity hypothesis given we just dont know as the virus is so new.
The reemergence of those testing negative is being seen in a few countries now, for whatever reason.
Testing flaws, reactivation, new strain?

The teen in the Amazon is an interesting case, I would imagine there are asymptomatic people or persons there.
The more solid knowledge that cats and ferrets are quite susceptible to this might be contributing to the Amazon experience? Or drug dealers using the river to travel between countries might be more realistic.

Medical scientists are pretty convinced this originated in bats and jumped either to cats , as happened with the civet cat previously , or those scaly mammals, and then very recent to the virus emerging, a human/humans were exposed at a place like a wet market or hunting.

On another note Ebola has reemerged 7 weeks after it was thought dealt with in an area of Africa.

I think sweden may be the smart one in all of this.

They are targeting herd immunity so they avoid or minimize 2nd and 3rd waves. Everyone else will suffer higher deaths with new outbreaks and effectively need to quarantine their ‘at-risk’ populations for 18 months (which won’t happen in practice)

I see more clearly why President Trump referred to the virus as the Chinese virus. Now, after some criticism , President Trump calls it The Scourge.

CCP virus is a fitting title.

So much evidence has been in clear view for most to see but for me, nothing was more obvious than the timing. Timing is everything.

With all that said, expect more turbulence.

There is little compassion coming forth from this communist stronghold and it is a stronghold.

I know what you mean. The story I read about the poor public transit bus driver that died after someone coughed all over him or the person purposely coughing on grocery produce shelves.
Within. our own country we have people that are ignorant.
…people that are frightened.
…people that are angry.
…people that are depressed.
…people that are lonely.
…people that are as mean and heartless as any communist party member.
There is a lot going on.
I can’t help but feel most sorry for young families and especially those who are living the pain from illness and dying.

We will see. This was what they were aiming for in the UK too and people weren’t too happy with it. There are no good options unless you can do what South Korea and Taiwan have done.
Sweden is the only one left in the West in volunteering to be the control group. But the UK bailed and it could be assumed it could be much worse if they continued with Sweden.

I have to say Australia has been remarkable. I’m sure many Australians think they’ve done a terrible job but it has one of the highest testing rates in the world. It’s on the same trajectory as South Korea. From what I’ve seen, their PM has shown great leadership. I’m sure the same can be said about the state premiers too. And I think they’ve been headed for budget surpluses so they have a good economic cushion unlike most of us. Canada, the UK and the US have massive debt and deficits prior to the crisis. The same problem with Spain, Italy and France.
