Perhaps this post would’ve been better received on the Liturgy & Sacraments forum? It seems like I’m the only one excited about this…

Maybe on this forum, never-ending changes to the English Mass are perhaps not the hottest topics. It seems like I’m the only one excited about this…
Is this forum only for discussion of the Extraordinary Form, old form of Liturgy of the Hours, etc.? Or is it appropriate to also talk about the Reform of the Reform? I personally don’t think that Traditional Catholicism must be tied to the Extraordinary Form.So why is this even discussed on the Traditional Catholic forum?
Because the teaching of the Popes and Ecumenical Councils are part of Tradition? So why is this even discussed on the Traditional Catholic forum?
Good questions. Is this forum only for discussion of the Extraordinary Form, old form of Liturgy of the Hours, etc.? Or is it appropriate to also talk about the Reform of the Reform?
I was concerned about the seeming dismissal of the Missal of Paul VI in the post I responded to. As I would be for any authoritative teaching of the Magisterium, especially when it comes to the Holy sacrifice of the Mass. What is this suppossed to mean?
Vatican 2 has so much to offer… it’s just not being impletented properly… that’s the problem…
I did not intend to slander anyone, sorry if it came across that way. I guess I got annoyed when I read a Catholic saying they “can’t waste their dollars” on the liturgical celebration of the Mass as authoritatively promulgated by Pope Paul VI. If I overreacted I apologize. So now you come to the Traditional Forum and slander people? That’s really a low for anyone.
Speaking of ignore, you’re on.
With respect, this isn’t the case.Of course, let’s remember that when the “Mass” was originally celebrated in Latin, that was a change into the vernacular, some centuries following Jesus and the Apostles (and the original Christians).
The Kyrie is in Greek. It is the only Greek in the Latin Mass. You mean this?
My thoughts?
Changing the Mass into complete vernacular was done way too quickly. In fact, there were some prayers which should have been kept in Latin. (Gloria, Kyrie, Sanctus, Consecration, Pater Noster)
For 40 years, we’ve had to fight tooth and nail about the “for all” clause in the consecration against all the Apologists, bishops, theologians, most in the congregation, etc. Where are all its defenders now?
There are just too many overwhelming changes all coming at one time now.
Actually it’s the transliterate Greek, which is written using the Latin alphabet. I’m studying Biblical Greek; one of the posters talked me into it.The Kyrie is in Greek. It is the only Greek in the Latin Mass.
Hi ProVobis! I guess I better get to studying Greek as well!Actually it’s the transliterate Greek, which is written using the Latin alphabet. I’m studying Biblical Greek; one of the posters talked me into it.![]()
Actually, the Mass was originally celebrated in a vernacular–Aramaic. Then in a lingua franca–koine Greek.Of course, let’s remember that when the “Mass” was originally celebrated in Latin, that was a change into the vernacular, some centuries following Jesus and the Apostles (and the original Christians).
I now have a copy of “A Primer of Biblical Greek” by N. Clayton Croy. It looked like it was exactly what I needed. Do you recommend anything else?Hi ProVobis! I guess I better get to studying Greek as well! It’s been on my to-do list since I’m a graduate student. Sadly I haven’t had the time to devote to it because of school, work, and family commitments. I feel challenged to put that towards the top of my list now, otherwise I’ll just end up eating my own words… again.
there’s something wrong with that nun. I cant understand why oppose the new translation? My wife is attending mandatory classes at our church for anyone who has children that will make their first Holy Communion. In this class the Nun who is teaching it is asking people to sign a petition to stop the translation from going forward. She has successfully talked about half of the parents into signing it.
On a better note. Our choir director has brought this up in a more positive light. “This is what is coming be prepared, ask questions but it is happening”.
Because the status quo is usually the path of least resistance, unless it’s a pay raise.there’s something wrong with that nun. I cant understand why oppose the new translation?
Wow…So you ignore or reject Vatican II? An ecumenical council? And all the magisterial teaching that followed it? Wow. Wish I felt as free to pick and choose what parts of authoritative teaching from the Church to adhere to. As Pope Benedict noted, the (so-called “NO” as you note) Mass of Paul VI is the ORDINARY form. Sorry you feel that “ordinary” Catholicism is a waste of your “dollars.”
