There’s lots of other ideas about who the Sons of God are besides angels. There’s some good posts about that on this thread.
Show me where in Sacred ScriptureWell thats what it says… …and it happened.
is angels please.Nephilim
quote=“Mishakel, post:44, topic:562187”]It’s in the scriptures.
It’s in Genesis 6 where the Sons of God intermixed with human women. It’s probably the oddest passage in the whole Bible and found no where else.Show me where in Sacred Scripture
I like this answer for “short & sweet.” Supported by many scripture references up thread. :+1:Makes a lot of sense on a passage I had not seen explained well until now.Sons of God are the descendants of Seth. Who began to invoke God. Daighters of men are descendants of Cain. Lamech seventh generation from Cain was the first polygamist.
Children of both cultures would be familiar with both cultures and that would be a great advantage since only they would know the whole of mankind. Hence, men of great renown. Giants
It does say the Sons of God did. The million dollar question is who are the Sons of God? We know for sure from the text that they are not humans. If not Angels them what are they? Now the Sumerians might answer this question but it goes outside the bounds of all Christian theology. This does not say Angels and humans had children
EDIT: Better answer from Haydock’s bible commentary on Genesis 2:2The million dollar question is who are the Sons of God?
The sons of God. The descendants of Seth and Enos are here called Sons of God, from their religion and piety: whereas the ungodly race of Cain, who by their carnal affections lay grovelling upon the earth, are called the children of men. The unhappy consequence of the former marrying with the latter, ought to be a warning to Christians to be very circumspect in their marriages; and not to suffer themselves to be determined in choice by their carnal passion, to the prejudice of virtue or religion. Ch. — See S. Chrys. hom. 22, &c. Some copies of the Sept. having the angels of God, induced some of the ancients to suppose, that these spiritual beings (to whom, by another mistake, they attributed a sort of aerial bodies) had commerce with women, as the pagans derived their heroes from a mortal and a god. But this notion, which is borrowed from the book of Henoch, is quite exploded. C. — The distinction of the true Church from the synagogue of satan, here established, has been ever since retained, as heretics are still distinguished from Catholics. W. S. Aug.
With this logic you would then deny the Virgin birth of Christ! How then was Mary impregnated if not but by the divine!Posters above have gone into great detail about how it is not possible for a spiritual non bodied being to procreate with a bodied being.
Biology
How so? Mary was miraculously impregnated by the Holy Spirit as a Virgin.Your comment is off topic about Mary.
Spiritual non bodied beings were created by God. They do not have procreative powers as do human beings (also briefly mentioned in Haydock’s above).
Catholics revere Scripture as well as its source (Tradition), as well as its appointed interpreter (the Magisterium). Now I’ve read about the teaching that the Sons of God came from the line of Seth. But there isn’t any biblical evidence to back this up.
Hyperbole? An overstatement to make a point, does not make it any less true. Scott Hahn offers a plausible solution IMO:Now how about the giant Nephilim? The Israelites said they were as tall as grasshoppers compared to them. Some say 20ft tall or bigger.
Nephilim can also be translated as “tyrants,” violent men who want to make a name for themselves and will do whatever it takes to achieve it.
Not necessarily,Hyperbole? An overstatement to make a point, does not make it any less true. Scott Hahn offers a plausible solution IMO:
Moses gave the dimensions of the sarcophagus. We can only conclude King Og of Bashan was smaller than that in size.If what Moses is saying is true, then there’s no reason to discount the fact that the Nephiim were giants.
Opinions vary on what kind of giants the Nephilim were. But it was I who annihilated the Am′or·ite before them, Who was as tall as the cedars and as strong as the oaks;I destroyed his fruit above and his roots below. (Amos 2:9)
They were giants. But some secularist scholars in both Catholic and Protestant circles want to disprove the miraculous of the Bible. In these two groups they even deny the existence of hell.If what Moses is saying is true, then there’s no reason to discount the fact that the Nephiim were giants.
We really know nothing about who they are. We do know that a Son of God would not be referred to as a demon in the Hebrew Bible. During those times demons and satan were not on the radar, satan was the name for ‘an adversary’It does say the Sons of God did. The million dollar question is who are the Sons of God?
