The Origin of the Bible
Did Jesus Christ ever write a bible
Did Jesus Christ ever command anyone to write a book?

Is the Bible which you use, the mother of the Church, or the daughter?
Does the Bible contain a list of inspired books to be included in it?
If not, Who decided which books should be included as inspired?

And, absolutely none of the answers you get here will prove the christian God is the correct God to worship.

Ignatius of Antioch
Polycarp of Smyrna
Marcion
Valentinus
Justin Martyr
Irenaeus of Lyons
Clement of Alexandria
Tertullian of Carthage
Origen
Eusebius of Caesarea
Athanasius of Alexandria
Didymus the Blind
Peshitta

All of the books are inspirsed by God. Jesus himself never wrote books in the bible, he had the apostles write about him etc.
Go here: scripturecatholic.com/scripture_alone.html#tradition-III it discusses how the Catholic church decided which books are inspired by God and which ones arent. The traditional Catholic bible contains more books then the Protestant bible has as well. Hope this helps!

So loke an agnostric/atheist to bring up a completely irrelevant point. Questions like this are directed at Sola Protestants, not agnostics who are mad at God for whatever reason.

and so like a Catholic to assume that all agnostic/atheists are mad at god

The point is you are derailing this thread by going completely off-topic. It is not about the Truth of the CHristian GOd, but about the origin of the scriptures, so unless you are prepared to discuss that, we would bu just as happy if you would not post on this thread.

Why would anyone care about the origin of the Koran for instance, if they did not believe that the God the Muslims believe in is the true God?

Why would Jews care about the christian bible?

The original thread is about the Origin of the “Bible”

Not withstanding the fact, there was a bible before there was a christian bible!

Romans 3:1 What advantage then has the Jew, or what is the profit of circumcision? 2 Much in every way! Chiefly because to them were committed the oracles of God.

Yes Christ wrote the Bible, Christ is God and God inspired the Bible. God decided what would be in the Bible from the beginning and even when there was no single book all the books were in place and in circulation.

Hi!
Could be wrong here, but does not Paul of Tarsus have Timothy circumcised, yet preaches no one needs to be circumcised anymore at the same time?

I could be wrong.

The Scriptures were compiled at the Councils of Hippo and Carthage. The Scriptures are the inspired WOrd of God, but were written by men. To deny that the Scriptures were the gift to the world from the CHurch is to deny historical fact.

I’d like to hear if someone denies the fact that, through divine inspiration, the NT was written and compiled by members of the pre-schism Church. 🤷

The whole bible was written by Jews, they documented their experiences of God. Very scientific don’t you think.

But not all jewish writings are included. Somebody had to declare an official canon, and that somebody was the Church

You are two-thirds correct about facts. We can say that the various books and letters in the NT were written by members of the pre-schism church, and we can say the same for compiling the books that became the NT. However, the “divine inspiration” point is a matter of faith, not historical fact.

To Bill Pick, re: Original Post.

Jesus did not write anything, He preached and taught. Neither did he command anyone to write, but he certainly had his disciples spread the Gospel, orally. These oral stories, sayings and traditions were eventually “put on paper” and became our bible.

The bible would be the “daughter” of the church since it came about as result of, and record of, faith experiences, first in the realm of Judaism, then in the context of Jesus. However, much of what we view as “church” today (taking into account all Christian faiths) is based on interpreting the bible so, in that regard, one could say the bible is the “mother” of some churches. But the “church”, the body of faith, existed first.

The bible does not contain a “list” of inspired books, other than the Table of Contents. The church over several centuries determined which books would be included. However, the great majority of the NT was accepted from an early date. There were only a few, specifically some epistles and Revelations, which were debated for a time. The story of how that came about is available in many church histories and has been recently discussed in other threads on this forum.

I am assuming you are asking these questions in this way under the “non-Catholic” heading to generate some discussion, or to make a point, since they have likely been tackled previously, as mentioned above. Since you do not explain your purpose in posting your query, I am wondering if you are seeking legitimate questions or trying to “pick” a fight?

I deny your take on it, the books were around as a loose compilation long before any council decided on them. Do some homework

I won’t quibble with this, except to say that since I have faith, for me anyway, it is fact.
