ThinkingSapien (implicitly mocking these concerns) . . .
One can also grow animals for meat.
.

Contrast that with Joaquin Phoenix taking his principles very seriously and draw your own conclusions. . .
. . . “I think now consuming animal products is no longer just a personal choice"

Yeah, he’s expressing his opinion. We are not constrained by it.

Try it, make a personal choice to consume an animal product.

I’m going to go make a roast beef sandwich.

TS . . .
We are not constrained by it.
Are students “constrained by” these ideas being carried out in New York City on Mondays?

Why should they be put out?

That discrimination against those students via this “constraint” of having to bring your own meat to school is inappropriate.

Now you are being silly. 🙂 You are asking for a government supplied meal that is free from any government decision and government influence.

Maybe we can also get something to drink that isn’t wet. 😃

ThinkingSapien changing my premise again.

(This again is the fallacy of equivocation and is a sign of a weak but stubborn arguer who cannot admit he is wrong. Even when it is obvious to everyone else.)

No I’m not.

You CHANGED my premise.

I’m saying they should refrain from being the “no meat police”.
I’m not saying (here anyway, but I would say it elsewhere if you want) that school lunches should be “free from ANY government decision and influence” (here) . . .

I think you should argue using logic sometime ThinkingSapien.

And thanks for implicitly admiting “constraint” against the students too after you pretending there was “no constraint” against the students. Excellent.

First of all, the Phoenix family (which included mom, dad and a bunch of kids including River Phoenix who was a well-known actor before he died years ago) were major hippies and former members of the Children of God cult. They’ve espoused veganism and sustainability and all kinds of similar stuff for decades. Nothing new here except Joaquin just won a bunch of awards for his latest film so the press is printing what he says (which is the same stuff that’s been coming out of the family every time someone sticks a mike in their face since the 80s).

Second, people were vegan for centuries because they couldn’t afford meat and/or sometimes by choice as a penance. We have all kinds of saints and holy people who were vegetarian or vegan. In many countries, Catholics are still expected to observe meatless Fridays. It’s kind of hard as Catholics to get fired up over not being served meat. And I personally couldn’t care less if the Oscars serves everybody plates of quinoa, as I’ll never be eating there and the people who do go there are not attending in order to eat. If some actor wants a steak, he’ll likely be off to an after-party soon where he can get anything he wants.

Third, as far as other places serving dishes to which you can add meat or not, from an economic standpoint this makes sense in areas where many people like having a vegetarian or vegan option. Sometimes I don’t want the meat. I see it as more choice rather than less.

Fourth, I don’t see meat restaurants or In and Out Burgers closing down in California. Plenty of places to eat meat if you want it. Not going away any time soon.

As long as children (and teachers) are not prohibited from bringing their own lunch which contains meat, I see no problem with meatless Monday, other than the “save the planet” political nonsense.
On the other hand, if it adds to the grotesque amount of food thrown away by students resulting from the Michelle Obama initiative, then it becomes a taxpayer issue that should be reversed.
It does, h

Well, we all know what jokers might do.

The Lewis quote is rather on point, too, and I’m glad you cited it. For anyone seeking to open the book quickly, to peruse more of Lewis’ insights, Op. cit., part III, chapter 4, “The Humanitarian Theory of Punishment”, p. 292 in the 1970 American edition.

Thank you.

Joaquin Phoenix has had an up-and-down life, and at the moment, he’s up, and everyone’s gaga over him.

His Wikipedia bio is so sad. He’s been mixed-up all of his life, and so is is family.

There are so many talented actors and entertainers who aren’t mixed up–I wish that they would get more attention. But reading my favorite actor’s Twitter page is kind of boring–“I went to church with my family on Sunday. Loved the Mass!” and “My dog is three years old today–here’s a picture of him frolicking with me and my wife” and “Happy 27th Anniversary to my dear wife who is my love forever!”

etc. Boring compared to Phoenix’s diatribes against normal American life. No wonder my favorite actor doesn’t get a lot of media attention!

It hasn’t been alleged that the NYC is prohibiting students from consuming meat. “No meat police” isn’t a role in the situation described thus far. 🥩🚫:policewoman:

There’s nothing serious 🙃 here to argue. There’s a party 🎊🥳 with a menu, some dude :man_office_worker:t3: shared his views on meat consumption 🥩🚫, and students :man_student:t5::woman_student:t3: that choose to eat the government supplied food in nyc schools on Mondays won’t see meat on the menu 🥦🍊🍅🍇🥐.

I agree with this sub string in your statement.
there was “no constraint” against the students
They can still have their Monday meat 🥩 and their Tuesday Tacos 🌮 And Friday Frijoles . They just have to bring it themselves. That’s a matter between them and their parents. And of course I’m excluding consideration of illegal substances 🍷🍸🍹🍺💊💉. Can’t bring those.

Have you seen “The Joker” 🃏? It is a good but disturbing move. I’m about to let some friends watch it.

Personally I could care less what somebody else says I should or shouldn’t eat…like I don’t eat chitlins…I don’t eat liver…or kidneys…or tripe…or chickens feet…etc…but…if many do go for it…I don’t mind a good steak…gotta be well done…no blood…no pink…but…some like it rare…go for it…sometimes I can go without meat for months at a time…just because I don’t feel like it…I love my veggies…can’t stand slimy Okra though (yuck) my wife loves it…love some but not all breakfast cereals…too much sugar…yet…some people like lots of sugar…go for it…wasn’t that long ago we were told eggs were bad for you…now you can have 6 a day and they’re good for you…who really cares…I’ll eat what I want…who really cares what Hollywood says…I have better things to do…like getting my wife a coffee…like now Pete.

G.K. Chesteron: “there is none more menacing and dangerous than
the exultation of very small and secondary matters of conduct
”
This is exemplified by comments like:
And if guys like Phoenix get their way, more of your own decisions will be made for you by the elitists in the nanny state…

Or maybe you get it, and like it when Government makes such decisions for the “plebeians”.

Some day you’ll figure out that they look at you as a beast too.

If people like this had the means to FORCE their ideas on you, they would do so in the blink of an eye in areas like this.

And naive (or malicious) people are always going go be there to tell you it is just an Oscar gala . . . while ignoring or downplaying the much more pervasive ideas and principles of people like Joaquin Phoenix.

The Government is involved in virtually ALL foods in America. Using your “reasoning” just reinforces my point. Government involvement to you = pretext to control “meatless” Mondays in this case. That principle can and would be extended by others like Phoenix.
All because one very elite party in Los Angeles is serving plant-based foods on this one day of the year. I think atheists have a better case of fearing the Catholics will some day force the whole country to avoid meat on Fridays in Lents than the decisions of the Oscars party impacting the rest of the nation.

Does not sound new for him and his diet. For some reason I remember Phoenix’s older brother talking about his diet and families diet while growing up. They have eaten vegan since young kids along with avoiding other items if I remember correctly. His brother back all those years ago thought others would benefit from eating that way also.

I hate it when vegans bully other people into being vegan. There is a small football team in England where the owner is vegan and he stops the team eating meat, he won’t sell it to the fans and doesn’t allow the visiting team to bring non-vegan foods. How would he like it if he was forced to eat meat when visiting another team?

This is part of the plan leftists have in their mind regarding THEM making YOUR choices for YOU.
So Hollywood elites are going to be forced - FORCED!!! - to spend one evening eating a gourmet vegan meal??? Oh the humanity!

The Oscars are going vegan…another fad for ATTENTION!
Frankly…I don’t give a Hoot! 🦉

We honor our “meatless” Fridays with Catfish, Salmon, Cod… 🐟
We like our vegetables…a pot of Pinto Beans cooked with uncured Beacon, bake potatoes… 🥔
And here in TEXAS, we love our BEEF steaks and thoroughly enjoy our Bar-B-Q! 🐄 🥩 🍖

ThinkingSspien attempting to put forth a logical argument falls back into equivocation changing my premise from the schools refusing to serve meat at politicians dictates with “consuming” meat.

Don’t fall for these fallacious arguments.
