Do you guys think the movie “The Passion” was a way to bring people to Christ because we are probably in the End Times? I can’t say for sure but since tradegies are happening and all that and the Time could be very near, I was wondering if the movie was maybe God’s way of bringing more people to Him to be saved? Like giving all mankind another chance. What do you guys think on this? Not that I am guessing but just wondering!😃

We have been in the end times ever since Pentecost. 🙂

When you think of it, does it matter? Are we not called to live every minute of our lives as if it were the last? Ultimately, nothing else matters except, as the Gospel of Matthew says, being awake when the Bridegroom comes.

Well, first of all, I have not mentioned anything about my faith life but you guys have to realize that I was not even close to Christ Himself even after I was baptized! It was the movie that only brought me to Him and it totally changed my life!!! I don’t regret it! I can’t!!!😉

Peace be with you Paris Blues,

The Passion of the Christ made me break down into tears multiple times and made me take my faith a lot more seriously. I completely agree with you that it served as something more than just a film.

God offers every human being the chance to be saved. The Passion of the Christ is a wonderfully powerful visual message of that salvation, so yes I believe it is one of God’s ways to bring people to Him.

However, I don’t think one way or another as to whether or not the reason is because the end is near. Christ said that disasters and wars will occur but it will not yet be the end. He also said that no one but the Father knows the time or the place. The end will come when God wills it, not before and not after. We have more important things to worry about, like spreading the message of Christ regardless of how much time we have left.

I thought only certain Protestants worried about that sort of thing.

personally no, i think this movie is a reminder of what jesus went through to save humanity. god bless 🙂

I can fairly safely say that “The Passion” was an act of God.

As for the end times…we aren’t in them anymore now than we were fifty years ago. Are we closer? Yes, by 50 years in who knows how many thousand : )

Be prepared, but don’t get too worked up about trying to predict dates.

My priest once told a story at the homily. It went like this.

A protestant minister once noticed a priest in public (due to his collar). The minister came up to the priest and asked him this question. If you knew the world would end in thirty days, what would you do? The priest responded, “I would preach God’s word, take confessions, celibrate Mass, visit the sick and all the things I have done from the day of my ordination.” The minister shook his head in discust and said, “You Catholics just don’t get it”.

I agree with Mercygate. We should be bringing people to Christ and doing our Lord’s work with equal intensity whether it is the day before the end of time or a thousand years before the end of time.

Peace in Christ,

I’m sure it has helped souls to come closer to God, I heard that weird things happened on set.
James who plays Jesus had something happen to him, plus some seers said that the devil didn’t want it made, i’m sure he didn’t, it will bring people closer to God.
And others it won’t change, some non-Catholics have condemned it as being a Catholic film.
Oh well, the film was well made but I was dissapointed with the ending, would have liked to have seen Jesus in the Garden again.
Apart from that it did get it’s point accross, and has brought people closer to God.

THe Prots are at it again of course it is a catholic film Mel Gibson is catholic, Jim Cavezeil is catholic how is it not going to have a catholic view. They can make their own movie if not happy with it. Oh wait a minute they have made theri own Jesus films and they suck. I can Imagine it now Kurt Cameron as Jesus directed by Gary Bussey.

Oh, possibly walk down the steet with a sign stating “end of time” or constantly focus his preaching on the end of time.

I once read a statment, “Repent Now! Avoid the rush at the end of time.” I had to laugh.

The point is that Christians should be repenting and obeying God period rather than thinking that being close to the end of time somehow makes repentance more important.

Jesus told people to repent and believe the gospel. Why would He do this if He knew that the end of time would not be upon us for at least another two thousand years? Because it was just as important for people of His day to repent immediately as it will be for those on the last day.

Why do some Protestants think it is far more important to repent if we know we are close to the end of time?

Well, regardless of what people say that, “oh, that’s what a Protestant would think, etc.” that’s their own opinion!:tsktsk: How would Catholics think of it then? Huh?

What mattered to me about the movie was it brought me into a deep relationship with our Lord! I’m soooo glad it did!

Nicole,

I loved the movie, and sure, God uses people (like Mel Gibson and Jim Caviezel) to bring more people to Him. But God does that all of the time, and in every age. It’s your statement that “we are probably in the End Times” that gives me pause…I would not advise you to get wrapped up in worrying about that sort of thing, as I see real pitfalls in that kind of thinking. Realize instead that you are approaching your own “End Times”—that is, you are mortal, and you will someday die. Why not spend every day trying to get closer to God based on that fact, instead of focusing on things that Jesus clearly tells us cannot be known beforehand?

Hi Paris,

Being Catholic, I am sure the movie did the same thing for me as it did for you. To realize the sacrifice that Jesus made for our sins. Seeing it visually makes it more real as some times it is hard to imagine the amount of suffering Christ endured because of our sins and His love for us.

I am so glad to hear that the movie brought you back to the Church. That is wonderful and what God intended. Please don’t worry about end times though. There really is nothing you can do about it and worrying will not add one second to your life.

As Saint Pio said, “Pray, hope and don’t worry”.

Your brother in Christ,
Trevor 👍

The Passion of the Christ never fails to move me. I went to Confession sort after seeing it. I am writing this post to share some experences I had with Protestants hostile to The Passion. My Mother who was raised Church of Christ but now attends the Christian Church/ Non-denominational church. She has not seen the Passion which I believe in large part due the preaching at her church who warned people not to see the Passion movie.
I even seen a Anti-Passion book on Amazon called Showtime for the Sheep. I guess this is to be expected with internet. I saw one Protestant ministry website accuse the Stations of the cross which movie is based on as not only unscriptural, but also Occultic medieval mediatation catholics indulge in. Obviously this sheer rubish. Apparently, from what I gather this elment of Anti-Catholic Protestantism is upset over what they believe is a sellout by Mainstream Protestants like Dr. Dobsob, Billy Graham and others to Roman Catholicism. I know one of my Mom’s friends who saw the movie told her that the scene with Satan holding that hideous baby shows Catholics fascination with child pornography. I thought What ???
I hope to convince my Mom to see it this easter season on DVD. I am sure she will have problems with it regarding the Marian imagery as she has been hostile to the Catholic view of Mary for years. I remember when my Dad was alive years ago, My Father and Mother used to argue over having a picture of Mary in the House. I do not understand the hostility toward Our Blessed Mother. They have statues of Angels in their garden but Mary got to go. My Mother was convinced at one point that Mel was a typical Hollywood liberal because of emphasis of the graphic violence in the movie which she claims hollywood movies about Jesus emphasize his humanity over his divinity. The argument of these Protestants against Mel Gibson runs like this:
  1. Mel Gibson is a part of Hollywood
  2. Hollywood does not understand Gospel
  3. Therefore, Mel Gibson is Hollywood liberal who does not
    understand the Gospel.
This all depends on a assumption of course. I always thought that theological liberalism that was at heart of the Passion criticism. Our local newspaper which is oddly has a Catholic editor ran a guest editorial when the Passion opened. The guest editorial was written by a minister of the UNITED METHODIST CHURCH. The writer accussed the movie of propagating “Mel gospel” instead of the Biblical one. The irony was this editorial while attacking “Mel gospel” questioned the reality of the Jesus’s bodily resurrection.

The passion was just a way for Mel Gibson to make some Cash. You wanna see End Times, try paying 4.26 at starbucks… its a killer. Seriously, The Passion wasnt really that great, I thought the acting was so so and it was kinda boring…

What truly matters is how it changed you as a person, as a human being.
