Problem: He does absolutely NOTHING about [Father Pfleger].
How do you know? The archdiocese has quite a bit of correspondence with parishes. And the cardinal has surely attended mass at St. Sabina’s and has talked to the pastor about succession.

The cardinal does not do what you favor as to the good father, that’s what you mean.

I did not say the Archdiocese was without some non-lefties. Of course I know of Bishop Paprocki and his law degree - I also think he plays hockey - so what?
He may be next in line.
The Archdiocese of Chicago has thousands of employees and it is infested with lefties.
How do you know? for instance? Father Greeley, perhaps? I don’t think he’s even a diocesan priest.
Sure, there is a spattering of possibly orthodox Catholics - but they are indeed the minority.
They celebrate the Tridentine Mass about a mile from the president’s house.
Why are Catholics told to “parish shop” for a conservative parish? Shouldn’t all parishes be true to the teachings of the church?
You are making the leap that some parishes are not.
I will try and find the report that tallied the primary ballots of the Chicago clergy - 80%+ of priests and all bishops that voted in the primary pulled a Democratic ballot.
And many of them were machine apologists (like Father Greeley), when there was a Chicago, Irish Democratic machine.
Most Democrats from Chicago and Illinois are not even “moderate” Democrats - most are really left.
I think you are wrong. Remember Daley supporting the war and LBJ? The regular Democrats are quite conservative.
They all could not vote for Lipinski ( the current reps father - who was also pro-life). Maybe they voted for the dem Poshard (If my memory serves me correctly he was pro-life )? I believe the report covered several election cycles so they all could not have pulled the Democratic ballot to vote for Poshard.
Yes, Poshard was the Democratic nominee for governor and pro-life.
The fact is - Chicago spawned Obama and is a center of Church dissent - people complain and complain and nothing ever gets done. Same ole, same ole.
No. There is not a lot of church dissent in Chicago. The cardinal has been quite outgoing and has herded in his diverse flock.

I remember complaining to the Archdiocese when I saw leftist literature being passed out at a major youth get-together at Dominican University sponsored by a Archdiocese department. Got no response, surprise.
.
Been there, done that. I have found that if you tell several people - run your mouth - you stand a better chance of getting a response. The Archdiocese probably will still do nothing - but you might get a phone call returned.

I do not know how you handled the thing at Dominican, but if you just notified someone at the downtown office and thought to yourself “Self - the Archdiocese knows and they will now correct the situation and will take action to ensure this will never happen agian”, you surely must have been dissapointed. You have to be squeaky wheel.

Y’all are leaping to the conclusion that there is something inherently wrong with ‘leftist’ material. What if it was some right-wing pamphlets? Would that be ok?

In other words, you like your own views being spread, but not the views of others? Is that it?

Except for 2 weeks for sticking his foot in his mouth about Hillary, the good Cardinal has NOT done any disciplinary stuff against him.

Period.

Well, the young adult ministry is a diSSenter’s paradise. I stopped going to their annual get-together. I got tired of the mass where hand-holding during the Our Father was encouraged and seeing Call to Apostasy literature being passed out.

He may be next in line.

He may.

How do you know? for instance? Father Greeley, perhaps? I don’t think he’s even a diocesan priest.

**I forgot about Father Greeley - yeah he is a lefty. I am just not talking about clergy - the Archdiocese employs alot of lay people. I have had first hand experience with people (lay and clergy) - you hear pro-gay, pro-choice comments in homilies, pro-gay, pro-aborion discussions, anti-pope comments from speakers at Church events, nasty comments about anything EWTN ect…
**
They celebrate the Tridentine Mass about a mile from the president’s house.

**So what, they elected this president. The Tridentine Mass should be celebrated a mile from a pro-life president’s house - ya know.

**

You are making the leap that some parishes are not.

**This is not a leap - many parishes foster and encourage a lefitst agenda.

**

And many of them were machine apologists (like Father Greeley), when there was a Chicago, Irish Democratic machine.

What kind of a machine is operating now?

I think you are wrong. Remember Daley supporting the war and LBJ? The regular Democrats are quite conservative.

**Regular Democrats? You are talking about the elder Mayor Daley - okay - he was most likely pro-life. The current Mayor Daley - no.
**
Yes, Poshard was the Democratic nominee for governor and pro-life.
**
Yes - I wish he had won.
**
No. There is not a lot of church dissent in Chicago. The cardinal has been quite outgoing and has herded in his diverse flock.
Perhaps he has done some good herding behind the scenes. I would like to see the practical effect of this.

Except for 2 weeks for sticking his foot in his mouth about Hillary, the good Cardinal has NOT done any disciplinary stuff against him.

You don’t know that. There could be a lot of private admonition. Give the cardinal some credit.

Plus, you are leaping to the conclusion that Father Pfleger merited some discipline. That is an opinion.

In my parish the whole church holds hands during the Our Father. Y’all don’t do that?

Do they only hold left hands?! 😃

Seriously, this tendency to elevate political ideology to the level of religion is getting really, really old. As Catholics we are supposed to decide things by whether they are right or wrong not by which ideology promotes or doesn’t promote them. Instead what I see more and more is people on the right or left cherry-picking the Church teachings that support their political ideology.

What parishes promote what leftist agenda?
The pastor at Holy Name comparing pro-life/pro-choice to choosing vanilla or chocolate ice-cream in his homily.

St. Patrick’s (Wadsworth) distributing a banned voter’s guide (not a right leaning banned one - a left leaning banned one).

St. Sabina

St. Clement’s hosting of Rep. Feigenholtz (pro-abort, pro gay).

The entire YAM program and Theology on Tap speakers (save the one or two token pro-lifers).

Ascension Parish allowing the Democratic Party to sponsor a forum on the health care bill.

The entire CCHD.

Parishes removing political signs of pro-life candidates from the public property near the parish.

Do they only hold left hands?
Actually, elbows. No germs are transmitted thusly.😃

In all candor, if a woman is holding a baby, I won’t hold her hand for fear of getting my germs to the child. I hold her elbow.

There is no such thing as a banned voter’s guide, the Church not endorsing candidates.

What about it?

You’re painting with a pretty broad brush there. I can tell you of a parish where the priest says Mass sitting in a chair, due to his age, but I won’t.

And sometimes Catholics should listen respectfully to political opponents, no matter how much we think we disagree with them.

Monica, your unhappiness is clear.
Yet the Archdiocese of Chicago includes more than 2 million Catholics.
Therefore, to me, your examples seem to be tiny indicators of something “amiss.”
Something is always amiss somewhere, even in the Church.

I can easily agree with Beau’s statement:
**“There is not a lot of church dissent in Chicago.
The cardinal has been quite outgoing and has herded in his diverse flock.” **
In other words, Cardinal George acts as a very good shepherd.

As I said to you elsewhere, do you pray for our bishops?
Complaining about them is counterproductive without devout prayer.

Now, a link for you, stats from 2008:

Dear Monica,

Sorry to hear about your situation. Sounds like you’re on the front lines of a major spiritual battle, both in your local community and here on the forum. May God bless you, guide you, and encourage you.

:blessyou:

A major spiritual battle is that of a devout Catholic who resides in China.
Does Monica have access to the Sacraments? Yes?
That’s an enduring grace, not a “major spiritual battle.”

My point of view:

It baffles me that any Catholic would seek guidance from such Op-Ed writers
as Michelle Malin and Glenn Beck (to name a few).

I mean WHY? WHY?

If where she lives is a hotbed of dissent, where people provide emotional and even material support to the enemies of the Catholic faith, then she is indeed involved in a spiritual battle. But yes she is also blessed.

A Catholic in China is involved in a spiritual battle indeed. But is also blessed, for there the enemies of Christ wear red stars and carry assault rifles. In China it is easy to tell the difference between good and evil. Here in the USA, a person may talk about justice but then help murder babies. So it is easy to be tricked. Whether that is the case where Monica lives I do not know.

So those might say who are unaware of the insidious, but very deadly, dilution of authentic Catholic teaching.
