What is respectful to one may be overboard for another. To me, wearing a suit and tie every Sunday would be a false presentation of myself, and I wouldn’t be honest in presenting myself in that fashion.I am not advocating criticizing people. I am advocating supporting *the expectation of respectful dress. *
Just as one pair of shoes does not fit all occasions, a given outward appearance does not fit all occasions. We like our churches to have a certain sacred architecture that enhance our worship, so dressing with respect (note: not finery) indicate a certain significance to the sacredness of the Mass.
What’s important is that people do what they have to, to come before Christ in the Mass. He is the only judge, and the only one that can see in everyone’s heart. That’s more sacred than any form of dress, or 'architecture for that matter. The most reverent Church I’ve ever attended was a ‘country style’ wood building in Alabama. It was packed and the Mass was beautiful. It was one of the most moving experiences I’ve ever had at a Mass.
