I still attend La Placita on a semi-regulr basis. That poor woman was probably wearing that shirt because it was a mis-print or overprint and she bought it for $.99 over on Alvarado…That’s funny, I used to go to a church in downtown Los Angeles where a lot of immigrants (legal and illegal) attended Mass daily.
Many did not speak or read English very well, and on more than one occasion I saw a sweet, elderly woman wearing a T-shirt with a really weird graphic on it - heavy metal or risque joke or whatever.
Didn’t bother me a bit. I knew they didn’t understand what it meant and were just wearing it because they thought the colors were pretty, or something.
As I recall, those of us who understood what the slogans meant weren’t offended - we just thought it was kind of cute.
No one would be allowed into La Placita with this Deicide shirt.

Actually, your original post had nothing to do with a “Deicide” T-shirt - it was all about your annoyance at someone wearing a “Big Lebowski” uniform, and how you “could still see the imprint of his comforter on the side of his head when he arrived for Mass.”

That’s really judgmental of you. You do not know why this person likes this band. Maybe they don’t even like the band and only have the shirt due to being poor. You don’t know! It’s not your business to know!
That’s like people seeing a priest wearing his clerical garb in public and judging him by thinking he must be a child molester.

Everybody, leave this poor man (or boy) alone. He’s absolutely in love with all this attention he’s amassed, negative though it be. He’s sad. Pray for him, and don’t descend into anger at his insults.
Prodigal Son !–our Church is near a major medical center here and there are many people in my parish who wear scrubs, both to Sunday Mass in our Church, and daily Mass in our chapel. Those who wear them are, as part of the job I imagine, scrupulously clean and neat. In fact, I live in Florida, and when the snow birds go away for the summer our parishes decline in population. At daily Mass the “regulars” are gone so a young man in scrubs named Jim–that is all I know about him except that he is kind and genuinely pious–and I have alternated in leading the Rosary after Mass. I am sorry that you and your wife were so maligned.

T-shirts like this don’t belong at the Mass. Some people equate that to keeping people away from the mass and that’s pure bunkum. That t-shirt became my business when he tried to enter the church before Mass.
Problems like this should be dealt with using tact and diplomacy. There are options. He could have covered it (even if we had to lend him something), he could have turned it inside out (which he did) or he could have replaced it.
It’s wrong for the default to be apathy. “If we ever question what people wear to Mass they will leave and never return.” Pure bunkum yet that’s pretty much all we read here. That sort of apathy along with pure laziness has driven people away from the Mass.

Ever been an usher? Ever go through the training? Lots of stuff is covered. From this sort of thing to actual troublemakers during Mass to those who experience medical problems, to those who try to profane the Eucahrist, etc. etc. etc. There is a response for them all and they ultimately come from my bishop through my pastor.
The universal response is definately not apathy as so many suggest here. That mindset has taken a terrible toll on the Church and in Mass attendance.

What if the kid refused and told you to leave him alone because he wants to spend time with Jesus and you are interfering with that? How would you respond to that? Would you prevent him from doing so?
