How on earth is Pope Benidict personallly responsible fo the sins of each and every Catholic and so called catholic. The accusations against him personally just begger the imagination with blatant injustice.I would have preferred something like:
“We were wrong.”
“These are the people responsible”
“This is what we are doing to these people”
“These are the steps we are taking to make sure it doesn’t happen again.”
///////“As Pope, I am personally responsible for what happened, this is my failure as a leader, I am stepping down so that another more competent person can take over the papacy and see this Church through the twenty first century.”/////////
something like that…you know…an actually letter of accountability instead of a cop-out followed by what basically amounts to “pretend this didn’t happen and move on”…
He does not now nor did he ever have preternatural gifts that allows him to know everything and everyone in these situations.
Physical abuse “spare the rod” was very common up until recently Nowhere was exempt from using stong punishment. The words sexual abuse have come to mean anything ones imagination can give it. Seems clear though that a lot of predatory gay men became priests and these homosexuals are the only men people can viciously attack in the press.
It is people who sin not the Church.
The same justice applies to priests who commit criminal acts as does any other criminal. Its up to police and lawyers, not the pope, to try them.
The Pope is accountable for making sure that the faiithful and the faithless know what is a sin. He can not prevent anyone using their free will to choose to commit the sin.
