The beginning of human dignity is that fact that we are created in the image of God. All this focus on “modesty” is a distraction.

Put another way, all this focus on “modesty” is immodest. 🤓

I have no problem with men speaking about modesty. Jesus spoke about it in many ways in the Gospels regarding lust etc. Also it is mentioned in the letters of the Apostles who wrote as well as St. Paul in regards to modesty, respect of women and how women need to be.
I think anyone is free to speak about modesty. Even little children, many times, will tell their mothers they do not want to wear something that is not modest. I guess it is natural to an innocent child to be uncomfortable with adults and their, at times , lack of modesty. I think it is important as a Catholic woman to imitate Mary as much as possible, without of course, wearing what she did in her time; but that doesn’t mean we can’t be modest and wonder – What would the Mother of God wear today? And how would she wear it in her actions as a woman full of grace.

Woman has a unique role to fulfill. Men cannot get pregnant.
Not without a man. And not all women can get pregnant, unless you want to suggest that post menopausal or infertile women are less sacred than fertile women.

But notice how they’re not trying to psycho-analyse women and they stuck to the virtue of modesty. Keeping it simple.

Some guys today try to guess why women are immodest, or focus on how they feel when they see immodesty instead.

They’re ‘free’ to do so obviously, but that doesn’t mean they did it well.

I think men and women should imitate both Mary and Jesus, on their virtues really. I don’t look to Mary as much as I do to Jesus, simply because we know more about him than Mary. Anyway, it doesn’t mean that wearing dresses is a virtue. Modesty is a virtue, not dressing feminine. it’s just a dress you know? Meaningless piece of clothing that we attach meaning to.

I constantly see many people saying this but there’s no theological documents backing this up. The practice of veiling goes back to the Jews, perhaps even further (for practical use like keeping sand out), and even the Bible mentioned something about it showing that women are under men.
And, St. Paul was anxious about women covering their hair, and he said that if they could not veil, it would also be acceptable to cut their hair off if it didn’t cause scandal. All this veiling the sacred bearers of children stuff came later.

Timothy 2:1-15 This might add a little more thought to modesty. It comes from sacred scripture, from a great evangelist Saint Paul, and reminds me of the blessed Mother who knew how to be discreet and succinct in her words and actions. 😇

"Similarly, too, women should adorn themselves with proper conduct, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hairstyles and gold ornaments, or pearls, or expensive clothes, but rather, as befits women who profess reverence for God, with good deeds. A woman must receive instruction silently and under complete control. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man. She must be quiet.

For Adam was formed first, then Eve. Further, Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and transgressed. But she will be saved through motherhood, provided women persevere in faith and love and holiness, with self-control."

Whatever that’s appropriate in the context you’re in, i guess. Of course breasts and genitals should always be covered, but the specifics depend on the context.

Post menopausal women and young girls aren’t the exceptions. They make up a pretty big chunk of women. Also, if one is to make a sweeping theological statement about the innate qualities of a woman/man, it should include everyone tbh.

One statement we can make is that we are made in the image and likeness of God. That sounds sacred to me. It also applies to men.
