The beginning of human dignity is that fact that we are created in the image of God. All this focus on “modesty” is a distraction.
Not without a man. And not all women can get pregnant, unless you want to suggest that post menopausal or infertile women are less sacred than fertile women.Woman has a unique role to fulfill. Men cannot get pregnant.
But notice how they’re not trying to psycho-analyse women and they stuck to the virtue of modesty. Keeping it simple.Jesus spoke about it in many ways in the Gospels regarding lust etc. Also it is mentioned in the letters of the Apostles who wrote as well as St. Paul in regards to modesty, respect of women and how women need to be.
I think men and women should imitate both Mary and Jesus, on their virtues really. I don’t look to Mary as much as I do to Jesus, simply because we know more about him than Mary. Anyway, it doesn’t mean that wearing dresses is a virtue. Modesty is a virtue, not dressing feminine. it’s just a dress you know? Meaningless piece of clothing that we attach meaning to.I think it is important as a Catholic woman to imitate Mary as much as possible, without of course, wearing what she did in her time;
And, St. Paul was anxious about women covering their hair, and he said that if they could not veil, it would also be acceptable to cut their hair off if it didn’t cause scandal. All this veiling the sacred bearers of children stuff came later.I constantly see many people saying this but there’s no theological documents backing this up. The practice of veiling goes back to the Jews, perhaps even further (for practical use like keeping sand out), and even the Bible mentioned something about it showing that women are under men.
One statement we can make is that we are made in the image and likeness of God. That sounds sacred to me. It also applies to men.Post menopausal women and young girls aren’t the exceptions. They make up a pretty big chunk of women. Also, if one is to make a sweeping theological statement about the innate qualities of a woman/man, it should include everyone tbh.
