I like steampunk fashion which more resemble Victorian style clothing.

I never cared about trendy fashion but I like the more classical and elegant styles, which is about the whole person and not just the display of a collection of body parts.

First letter to the Corinthians, chapter six, “So glorify God in your body”. Imagine being a cloths designer who always had that in the background of his or her thoughts when designing clothes. Or the mystery of being made in the image and likeness of God. It takes courage and ingenuity to dare to be different then what the trends are.

I don’t know if I remember right, but Pope Benedict XVI once addressed the fashion designers of Milan, reminding them that when they design clothes that showcases the human body to keep in mind the inherent dignity of the person who will wear their creations.

As a beautiful young lady who competed in beauty contests told me: “Bikinis look like underwear. I don’t want people seeing me in my underwear.” That is just one example against the brainwashing too many women in the West see as perfectly fine. It could be said that the goal of some fashion designers is “Show a little skin, then a little more, then a little more, and so on.”

Women are slowly, gradually being abused by a trend toward being sexy as opposed to modest. This has to end.

In this culture here in the USA that claims to be Christian, women are used more as an object then they were 100 years ago. Looks like a very good book to read.

I wonder, for another topic you might like to start , do you agree with our teaching from Jesus Christ and His Church on what is considered a sin regarding homosexual practices? Not for this thread of course, but for another thread. Again you might want to watch the youtube which started this thread and stay on the topic, while giving examples that you disagree with, using the youtube as your point of reference. Just a suggestion.

On the other hand, there was a time in not terribly long ago history when the below would have been a woman in public in her underwear:

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

I’m curious if that would be a good argument that modern women are brainwashed for appearing in public like that.

Oh yeah I’m sure.

Women’s hemlines were floor to ankle length until early 1900’s. And women would wear a shift - a knee length, short sleeved cotton dress - under their dress as underwear. Go back a bit over 100 years and today’s modest dress is practically being on the street in your underthings.

The flapper dresses in the 1920’s were quite shocking. As was that the women weren’t wearing corsets under them.

You’re right-- that dress is minimally following the guidelines of “covering the knees”. Also due to the color and fit it does give an impression of looking like a nightgown or a shift.

I watched to 9.04 and while I get modesty,I don’t understand this guys reasoning due to fixation on body insecurities and vulnerability.

Modesty is because we might turn on sexually the other sex and has nothing to do body confidence.

When people judge others based on their body type, that is an issue with the person that judges and society, but modesty is a different thing altogether.

I don’t understand what he means by feeling vulnerability?
When I wear a shorter dress I don’t feel vulnerable at all…

Well said. Women are manipulated by the ‘fashion industry’ to wear certain things. The obvious goal is to expose more skin and/or to offer tight clothing or clothing that ignores the fact that women have a waist. I was walking to the checkout when I looked up and saw a full-figured woman constantly pulling up her low-cut jeans.

It is courage and ingenuity or is it money?

Ie:a person can design modern modest clothing but if enough women don’t want to wear it you won’t be in business for too long.

Personally I think there is modest clothing everywhere. Its just not labelled as such.

When I shop for clothes there are some brands that are purely sex appeal clothing but a lot of other shops have a mixture of both.

I don’t recommend shopping at H and M or Forever 21 etc due to environment concerns, but generally speaking even there you can find clothes that modest.

Money is most likely the main goal and notoriety might fall in somewhere for a cloths designer. I like to look up words even if I am pretty sure I know what they mean., Vulnerability— the quality or state of being exposed to the possibility of being attacked or harmed, either physically or emotionally.
He speaks to how much knowledge we want others to have of us. Trust levels etc. Tragically Ted Bundy was a serial killer and it all began with pornography.

I had to watch the youtube on modesty twice to think about his ideas and I agree with them. @Rozellelily

In theory, I don’t think it should be this way though.
In practice,it’s true that I would feel uncomfortable even wearing an above knee skirt when going to a place like Lakemba that is a heavily Muslim area as there are some “leary men” and I don’t feel safe.

I think modesty should only be though to prevent the other sex from lust/being turned on.
Dressing modest for the intent of avoiding potential physical harm removes the responsibility of the criminal.

I agree with what you are saying about pornography.
It changes brains but I think this is different from modesty because men that become perverted from pornography are “happy” to rape/target decently dressed women too.
