we have a similar issue with number of people on the prayer list and who should be on. The priest is simple about it - if they want to be on, then be on.
But parishioners think if you are in church then you shouldn’t be on because you’re well enough etc… People who don’t go to church are on. People who do go to church put the ones who don’t go on. Most probably have no idea they are on a prayer list. We got told we should ask their permission first. But they won’t know what is being asked if they don’t go. “Can I put you on a prayer list” people who don’t go to church at all wouldn’t know what that meant etc. And those who have family members who do the deed, its about them isn’t it rather than the person who is sick. Most people who don’t go to church also know to keep their christian friend at peace by simply agreeing because the argument will go away quicker I reckon too. Because its more about the person putting them on the sick list - prayer list rather than the person on the prayer list - it seems.
The priest is simple about it. He says if they want to be on then they will go on and have pointed out that there are people who should be on it but not.
its a political thing when it gets discussed in our church
just a similar problem that no one really knows what to do about it because they all want to tell each other they shouldn’t be on
