The Roman Catholic Church IS a denomination

The authority of Catholicism goes back to Christ himself…It goes back to Jesus Christ, Son of the Living God.
If you read the scriptures and interpret it in a certain way, then yes, but that point is **very **subjective.
It’s no different from any other denomination. They interpret scripture to say a certain thing and build their church on it.
I don’t care what you call yourself. Anyone who is not in communion with the Catholic Church is in a state of rebellion towards Jesus.
I agree With Questions, that is quite the statement isn’t it? I just love the “non-judgementalism” from some Catholics…

This is what I meant with my first post.

And please do not forget the The Catholic Church is Universal, so is beyond any English language word or concept. Try to find the same concept of “denominations” in Spanish, French or Italian. For sure, that concept does not exist in Spanish. In the Spanish world, you have “religions” and “sects”, VERY different. Most of the protestants belong in the “sect” category, people wouldn’t even dare to put them in the same league with The Holy Catholic Church. But we are all brothers in Christ, so let;s pray for our separated ones.
Interesting choice, all once Catholic majority language groups. What would the Arabic or Hindu language say?

Actually no, just the opposite, we aren’t a denomination, we are the Church that gave the Bible to the world, we didn’t build the Church on the Bible.

And yet that is the tool you use to motivate your points and beliefs.

And round and round we go…

And round and round we go

Don’t even get me started…this is a different thread topic though.
Get you started with what? False teaching? We all know that’s what will be spewing forth: Misrepresentations of the Roman Catholic Church!

I find it curious how Catholics always like to credit their “flavour of Christianity” with the positive like the Bible but will pass the buck on the negative like the inquisition.

But that is off-topic I suppose. Still it struck me as odd.

We do not “pass the buck” on the inquisition and counter reformation. We merely say that excesses were in error, but the motives were not, and in addition, there was plenty of injustice to go around, just look at the reign of the wretched Queen Elizabeth

Stating FACT is not passing judgement. The simple fact of the matter is that all of the thousands of Protestant sects, including those “mega-churches” based on a hollow, feel-good message were not in existence at the time of Christ. The Catholic Church was, with Peter serving in the office of Pope. So you have two options: The true Church was missing for 1500 years, or the Reformers rebelled aginst the True Church. Which is it? You cannot have it both ways. And the first option opens up a whole new can of worms.

Just one comment for the thread:

If Mr CWBetts has responded to me, I am not responding back to him because he is on my “ignore list” for extreme condescension.

Now back to the thread.

Of course you being Catholic would say that.

But maybe he will not choose your metric-du-jour.

Maybe he will look at all of the different flavours in his community and choose that which seems the most Christlike to him.

Which will of course be…

my denomination of course.

(only kidding)
In that case you’re screwed as the Apostles did not always act in a Christlike fashion - you would reject the Church the Apostles believed in because you think you’re too good for them, or because you have no faith in Christs promise that He would Remain with His One Church for all time and guard and guide it to all truth…

Your utter lack of history reveals much. The Church existed before the formalization of the canon. And for the record, Protestant Churches were built upon the arrogance of mere men who were not guided by the Holy Spirit.

The apostles would not recognize the Roman Church. Jesus promised He would be with us (His people) always. His people are the universal chuch those Roman and those not.

Wow, how telling. The Roman Catholic Church is the Church of the Apostles. They would most definitely recognize it. The would have problems with the Protestant churches that ignore the sacramnets, however.

No it is not my lack of history that condemns me but an utter lack of Gods Word that condemns.

Actually, The Church is not built on ‘the word of God’ as you meant; the Bible (from the paraphrased post)

It is built on The Word of God, By The Word of God, For God!

The Word of God is not the book!

Teaching and informing accurately, is not condemning, unless the recipient wishes not to be the student, but a self taught teacher!

Every reference to “the Scriptures” is ONLY the Old Testament!!! You do realize that the first scriptures to be committed to paper in the NT are the Epistles, right? So those were not making reference to the Gospels. You have just proven you are almost copletely ignorant of Church History.

The scriptures are Gods written word Christ is the living Word. The written word is living and Christ is written (in the hearts of those that believe).
Gods word is both written and living.
To proudly claim that your Church is not built on the written word of God but is built on the traditions of men is condemning.

Every reference to “the Scriptures” is ONLY the Old Testament!!!
SO scriptures are stll the word of God

I am not an adherent of the History according to CWBetts
