Right and here is the next paragraph:
2679 Mary is the perfect *Orans *(pray-er), a figure of the Church. When we pray to her, we are adhering with her to the plan of the Father, who sends his Son to save all men. Like the beloved disciple we welcome Jesus’ mother into our homes,39 for she has become the mother of all the living. We can pray with and to her. The prayer of the Church is sustained by the prayer of Mary and united with it in hope.40
I still fail to see the point of the OP and his supporters in this thread.
Maybe I can help. You may already realize that our Heavenly Mother was more or less cast aside from the mid 1960’s to approximately 2,002 when John Paul declared that year as the “year of the Rosary” & added a new set of mysteries. Why??
I’ll start at the beginning, as I know it & lived it. I was just entering into my own years of Motherhood & I had attended a high school run by the nuns of the Sacred Heart. These years had given me a great devotion to Mater Admirabilis, so this change was especially painful for me.
In 1952 Dr. A. Mitterer brought out a book in which he distinguished between Our Lady’s biological virginity and her spiritual or moral virginity. He claimed that Jesus could have been born in the normal human way, and Our Lady still have remained a virgin,
spiritually. His was an attempt to deny the Virgin birth without actually coming out & saying that the physical virginity of Mary was “impossible”. He got his point across without putting his position with the Church in danger…at least he thought so.
This “theobabble” was picked up by liberal scholars, like Fr. Raymond Brown, by theologians like Fr. Karl Rahner, and by the Catholic feminist movement. The Vatican issued a warning in 1960 (or close to 1960) about the danger of such writings & of irreverence toward the Blessed Mother
However, Vatican warning or not…this was the mindset of the so-called “intellectuals & scholars” of the time & of course, it manifested itself in the second Vatican council.
The first Marion schema was delivered to the council with the words “'who [the Son] willed the
bodily integrity of his Mother to remain, in the moment of birth (in ipsomet partu), incorrupt and untouched…’, a statement that totally contradicted the latest from Mitterer, Rahner, &. the “intelligentia” .” Unfortunately, Father Rahner, the most influential peritus at the Council, was able to sabotage this schema.
Fr. Ralph Wiltgen in his very informative, The Rhine Flows Into the Tiber, ( & anyone who has not read this book & wonders what happened to the Church…should read it) writes:
Code:
"When the German and Austrian Council Fathers received their copies of the schema, they asked Father Rahner to prepare comments on it for presentation at the forthcoming Fulda conference.
"According to Father Rahner, whose written comments were distributed to all participants in the conference,
the schema as then drafted was ‘a source of the greatest concern’…Were the text to be accepted as it stood, he contended, 'unimaginable harm would result from an ecumenical point of view, in relation to both Orientals and Protestants.’ It could not be too strongly stressed, he said, 'that all the success achieved in the field of ecumenism through the Council and in connection with the Council will be rendered worthless by the retention of the schema as it stands.
It took a bit of time before I began to wonder what happened to the rosary, it was not prayed before or after Mass anymore. After the council, It was not recommended from the pulpit, either. (Actually not much was recommended or condemned from the pulpit after Vat. II, but the absence of calls for devotion to Mary was really noticeable.)
The custom of the May crowning of the statue of the Virgin by the school children just disappeared, as did the Novenas & the hymns we sang in her honor during May & October. All of a sudden, Mary was “out”. There are still those few liberals, I call them the “white haired hippies of the 60’s” who find the Virgin Mother to be so “old-Catholic” & consider devotion to her almost embarrassing. I don’t know whether the OP is one of them, but I find his concern about the rosary disquieting.
I wonder if we can ever make up to her, what was done in order to be acceptable to the Protestant faiths…Churches that really wanted none of us anyway.
