The Saints of Vatican II

So I was thinking about the numerous Roman Pontiffs who either presided over, or were Fathers or experts of the Second Vatican Ecumenical Council, and I did a little research and came up with this:

St. Pope John XXIII
St. Pope John Paul the Great
Bl. (Soon to be St.) Pope Paul VI
Bl. Alvaro del Portillo
Ven. Pope John Paul I

And our Emeritus Holy Father Benedict XVI (IMO a living Saint who will be canonized one day).

Were there any other Saints among the Fathers and theologians of Vatican II?

To my mind, it lends credence to the validity of VII knowing 5 Saints participated in and approved of the Council.

Never thought about this before.

It’s a good question. It also says a lot for the robustness of the council and the work of the Holy Spirit in it.
 
Pope Francis will be canonized long before Pope Benedict XVI

The process of canonization was revised to make “getting” saints easier and it left out critical components such as the Devil’s advocate.
 
Romano Guardini perhaps?
He is one of the most influential teachers and thinkers of this century. Influenced Benedict, JP2, Francis.

I recommend his reading to anyone. Guardini is a profound thinker and amazing communicator.

Pope Francis will be canonized before Pope Benedict XVI

Not every Pope gets canonized and I doubt Pope Benedict XVI will be.

Why don’t you think so? I personally think that Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI will be canonized before Pope Francis.
 
I wouldn’t say he did nothing.

He did some things for tradition.

He gave all priests of the Roman rite permission to offer the Latin Mass without the permission of their local ordinary for one.
 
^ Also, Pope Celestine V is a Saint, canonized very shortly after his death.
 
That wasn’t extraordinary, but a compromise in an attempt to bring members of the SSPX society back in to union with Rome.

If anything, it ended up in creating division in the Church.

I would call it extraordinary. I believe it was good that he tried to bring the SSPX back to union with Rome.
 
wasn’t blessed frank duff involved in vatican II (founder of legion of mary)?

“Extraordinary” actions are not required for canonization. Holiness of life and fidelity to Church teachings are. The Pope Emeritus seems to me to qualify on both counts.

Yes, add Servant of God Frank Duff to my list - he was one of the Lay Observers of the Council.

@JimR-OCDS everyone on these forums knows where you stand with regard to traditional Catholicism, please if you want to disparage Catholic traditionalism go do it on your own thread.
