Yes, it doesn’t seem he was present, although having a huge influencing on the thought of the Church. He was dismayed at the implementation of the reforms he spoke about.

As an aside, if you’re looking for deeply pastoral writing try Guardini’s book"Learning the Virtues: That lead you to God.

This is an outstanding book for bringing peace and calm disposition to life.

Whatever they were not clear about, going public with their letter was their error.

There is also a problem in Archbishop Sheen’s lifestyle, which he himself admitted to when he was with us. That is, he loved driving Cadillacs and eating in high-class restaurants of NYC.

There may not be anything sinful about this, but it may be a stumbling block for canonization.

I have Pope Benedict’s books and have read them and I’m also rereading some, like Jesus of Nazareth.

But again, being a brilliant mind and writing books isn’t a prerequisite for canonization.

St Bernadette was a simple humble girl who couldn’t make her first Holy Communion until she was 14 years of age, because she had difficulty with academics.

Canonization has a process of looking at a person’s life and seeing them living the Gospel.

It may be that Pope Benedict XVI will be canonized, but I don’t think that will happen anytime soon after his death.

As it is, there is criticism against the Church for beginning the canonization process of the recent Pope’s.

If somebody can’t clearly see the sanctity of Father Benedict, then they are blinded by ideology (probably left leaning/liberal) pure and simple.
And you’re using of the above label’'s shows a ideological bias which blinds you.

Yes I have and my wife is a big fan of St Theresa.

We also visited Lisieux and the home she grew up in.

But again, having a brilliant and gifted mind, and spending you life working on the theology of the Catholic Church
Puts a person who became the Vicar of Christ on earth in contention for

After all who gave this man such a brilliant gift?

There is always people ready to cut down the tall poppies in the Church, and criticise its every move. Nothing new or special there.
However, who gets a say? It’s not a democracy. we are called to humbly submit to the authority of the a Magisterium

I’ll even one up my wager.

My prediction is this:

Pope Benedict XVI beatified by 2050.
Canonized by 2100.
Declared a Doctor of the Church by 2200.

If all of the criteria is there, why wait?

I think it is a great example when people can see that a holy person that was there in their lifetime, is made a saint. Pope John Paul and Mother Teresa were both living examples to me in my lifetime and not just people that lived 150 years ago that I never heard of before they were made saints.

Silly arguments.
This is not about the Church making a man by ideological and political maneuvering, it’s about the Church recognizing sanctity that exists by the grace of God.
The Church does not manufacture saints.
Silliness.

It seems as though we have concluded how many people at the Sacred Second Ecumenical Council of the Vatican are now canonized or in the process of canonization. I am sure many of the thousands of Fathers, experts, and observers there are also Saints known to God. And I also feel 100% confident that Vatican II and its decrees are inspired of the Holy Spirit Himself.

God is great in his saints!

St. Pope John XXIII, pray for us
St. Pope John Paul the Great, pray for us
Bl. (Soon to be St.) Pope Paul VI, pray for us
Bl. Alvaro del Portillo, pray for us
Ven. Pope John Paul I, pray for us

Pope Benedict XVI - when you arrive in Heaven as a Saint, pray for us

God, through the prayers of the Most Holy Theotokos, Mary the Mother of the Church, and all the Angels and Saints, especially St. Rita of Cascia whose memorial we celebrate today, guard, defend, and guide your Church, especially our Holy Father Pope Francis, all the Patriarchs especially His Holiness Sviatoslav, all the Cardinals, all the Bishops, all Priests and Deacons, all Religious and all the People of God. Defend and guard your spotless bride, and protect her from every pernicious heresy, every evil schism, and heal the wounds both within and without the Body of Christ, and increase her charity, love, and sanctity every second of every day until you come again.
Amen

Hans Urs von Balthazar, though not invited, was influential I’m sure.

Father Yves Congar was made into a cardinal or bishop sometime after Vatican 2.
