I’ve been to a couple of churches in the UK which have the NO mass where kneeling is the norm and most people receive on the tongue. One was the London Oratory, the other was in Soho (I can’t currently remember the name).
Brompton Oratory, properly the Oratory Chruch of St Philip Neri.

Very traditional, and very popular amongst young people with jobs in London.Interestingly, the Anglican Chruch next door, Holy Trinity Brompton, is also famous as the home of the Alpha Course.
It’s next to Harrods. Pop in after doing your Christmas shopping.

Kyrie,

I’ve got the video(CD) on St. Thomas Beckett Church and Academy.

I don’t know that if I was that close that I could resist going back to SSPX. However, check out St Joseph’s in Salem. I think they have a Latin Mass one a week. Also, Portland isn’t that far from you. They have an Indult, but its really early on Sunday. Or go to Cantoresinecclesia.org and get on their mailing list. They sing gregorian at Immacullate Heart in Portland for Latin Masses on saturday evening and every Sunday at Holy Rosary, also Portland at the 11:00am for the NO Mass. (Very Reverant)
Or St. Sharbel’s Maronite rite in Portland.

I think I understand your frustration. I used to drive 60+ miles to go to Mass at a Parish that was faithful to Rome. The Mass was NO but without the funny business I found at my local parish. Unfortunately gas prices have sort of grounded me so I attend the only Catholic church in my hometown. I do sympathize.

The Catholic faithful are not supposed to support SSPX in any way, especially not attending their Masses. Attending an SSPX Mass on a Sunday does not fulfill the Sunday obligation.
What is the documentation for your information? A friend was approached by the SSPX and they gave him articles that said they were not excommunicated and their Mass was valid. I didn’t think that was correct and I wanted to give him the correct information. I don’t want him to be misled. Thank you.🙂

if i went to a NO mass and knelt to recieve communion on the toung, would that be aloud?
As an EMHC, I wouldn’t have a problem. There might be a pregnant pause while I pick my jaw off the ground, but I would gladly serve you. I imagine that my priests would also.

I currently attend a chapel of the Society of St. Pius X. I recently did research to find out about their validity. The only statement by the Holy See I have been able to find is the Ecclesia Dei. Does anyone know of any more recent information? Thank you.

In the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus,
Kerrie
Their Masses are valid. But according to RC belief they are illicit.

Unless someone has a more current information then the following—this is where the SSPX stand with Rome.

Letter by Msgr. Camille Perl Regarding Society of St. Pius X Masses
Una Voce America has received a communication from the Pontifical Ecclesia Dei Commission, concerning an article which appeared in The Remnant newspaper and various websites. At the request of the Commission, we are publishing it below.

Pontificia Commissio “Ecclesia Dei” January 18, 2003

Greetings in the Hearts of Jesus & Mary! There have been several inquiries about our letter of 27 September 2002. In order to clarify things, Msgr. Perl has made the following response.

Oremus pro invicem.

In cordibus Jesu et Mariæ,
Msgr. Arthur B. Calkins

Msgr. Camille Perl’s response:

In a previous letter to the same correspondent we had already indicated the canonical status of the Society of St. Pius X which we will summarize briefly here.

1.) The priests of the Society of St. Pius X are validly ordained, but they are suspended from exercising their priestly functions. To the extent that they adhere to the schism of the late Archbishop Lefebvre, they are also excommunicated.

2.) Concretely this means that the Masses offered by these priests are valid, but illicit i.e., contrary to the law of the Church.

Points 1 and 3 in our letter of 27 September 2002 to this correspondent are accurately reported. His first question was “Can I fulfill my Sunday obligation by attending a Pius X Mass” and our response was:

“1. In the strict sense you may fulfill your Sunday obligation by attending a Mass celebrated by a priest of the Society of St. Pius X.”

His second question was “Is it a sin for me to attend a Pius X Mass” and we responded stating:

“2. We have already told you that we cannot recommend your attendance at such a Mass and have explained the reason why. If your primary reason for attending were to manifest your desire to separate yourself from communion with the Roman Pontiff and those in communion with him, it would be a sin. If your intention is simply to participate in a Mass according to the 1962 Missal for the sake of devotion, this would not be a sin.”

His third question was: “Is it a sin for me to contribute to the Sunday collection a Pius X Mass” to which we responded:

“3. It would seem that a modest contribution to the collection at Mass could be justified.”

With prayerful best wishes for this New Year of Our Lord 2003, I remain

Sincerely yours in Christ,
Rev. Msgr. Camille Perl Secretary
