Given that the Obama administration also housed separated children in “cages,” which merited the faintest of peeps from supplicant media, politicians and activists, this newfound outrage comes off as contrived partisanship.

Apart from the historical ignorance in comparing the mechanized genocide of 6 million people with the temporary warehousing of children in detention facilities, going full-bore with accusations of Nazism is a grave strategic error on the part of those opposing the president.

There has been escalating rhetoric from the moment Donald Trump pulled off his “upset” defeat of Hillary Clinton, rhetoric that has reached its natural conclusion that Trump must be literally Adolf Hitler. For some bizarre reason, however, Democrats decided that now — five months away from midterm elections, and in the midst of a whirlwind of other headlines — was the time to deploy their rhetorical nuclear option.

Like it or not, news cycles move at breakneck speed in the Trump era and often are determined by the president himself.

Undoubtedly, the president is ready to chum the waters with another carefully manufactured outrage to distract the pundit class.

Despite what should have been a slam-dunk for critics of the president, the overwrought rhetoric of Democrats may have handed the modern-day Teflon Don another victory, and harmed their longer-term prospects in the process.

I can’t speak for Democrats or the media or whomever or whatever else. But for those I know who are concerned about Trump’s presidency, it isn’t a game. They have genuine worry – at times panic – because they recognize some facets of history in what’s occurring today. Those who are earnest in their beliefs see warning signs, like the escalation of us vs. them rhetoric, language used to dehumanize, etc. And because they’ve been trained to see warning signs when they appear in order to stop a repeat of what took place previously, they’re worrying. They’ve been hearing canaries chirping in the coal mines. And they’re baffled that others aren’t hearing the same.

Belittling them, claiming they’re fools latching on to manufactured crises, imagining them as servants of evil who want to see the country devolve into flames – these approaches will only lead to greater panic. There’s so much in the forums now of people not listening. It’s the way of the country, and that should worry us all.

The mother of one of my wife’s co-workers grew up in WW II Germany. When Obama was in office she continually said “History is repeating itself!!! Things are happening the same way they did when the Nazis came to power!!!”.

Some people panic when a month passes gas. Especially the social justice warrior types. Look at the total meltdowns going on here on CAF. Look at Maxine Waters call to harass and intimidate Trump’s staff. Who in November is going to benefit by this hysteria? Democrats are getting played.

These are our neighbors. I don’t think them evil or stupid or hysterics. You can do as you like.

For what it’s worth, I teach people to see warning signs. Whether they come during a Democrat’s administration or a Republican’s administration, they should be heeded. I don’t see a political game here, though I’m aware that many (even here on CAF) do. Prayer is our last, best resort and there is much to pray for right now.

Of course Democrats are our neighbors. So are the Republicans, Independents, political agnostics, etc. who also are panicking right now about the state of our country. They’re not evil. They’re not stupid. They’re not hysterics.

'These ’ is an open term. I just wanted to be sure who you were talking about.

I do disagree with you: they (Democrats and other Trump haters) are totally hysterical. I think Trump got the exact response he was looking to get. Now that they have pulled the scorched earth policy where do they go? Trump took Missouri by 20 points. Is calling Trump Hitler going to help Claire McCaskill? Or anger the conservative base?

Again, why is prayer your last resort?

Again, you’re enmeshed in a political game. I’m talking about real worries and real motivations. You’re talking about pieces on a chess board. The point isn’t whether Democrats or Republicans win or lose. The point is the damage that’s being done from both sides.
 
I hope no one with extreme political animosity toward one party, either Republican or Democrat would be teaching in a PUBLIC University.
