No one’s listening. No one cares. When reality doesn’t fit with political narratives, it’s ignored.
And this is the most appalling part of these times of Trump: tribal facts preferred over truth; tribal epistemology preferred over knowledge; tribal actions preferred over wisdom.
Are you including yourself in this generalization or just those you judge to be so!

Watch “Hitler: A Career,” a 1977 German movie by Joachim Fest, who is the author of an excellent 1973 biography of Hitler as well. I saw this early last year, with no thoughts of Trump in my head–I had been to Nuremburg the summer before and had visited the Nazi rally sites, so it was a follow-up to that visit.

However, if you watch it (it’s on Netflix), you can’t help but be jolted every few minutes by the parallels to Trump and his loyal followers. It’s also noteworthy that after Nazi defeats in 1943 (Stalingrad and El-Alamein), Hitler only appeared in public 3 more times in his life. So perhaps we can look forward to some peace after the tariff debacle plays out.
I see way more similarities to the nazis in the form of antifascist fascist groups like Antifa, media propagandists, and the previous administration decalring war on freedoms of religion and association and the 1st and 2nd amendment.

Yet again I’m well aware of the seamless garment nonsense that got us eight years of an anti Catholic, pro contraception, pro abortion, redefining marriage, supporter of the Planned Parenthood that you’ve seen in the undercover videos government and as a side hobby laughed at the idea of religious liberty. Thankfully enough Catholics were not hoodwinked by that and we have a pro life administration.
You don’t have a pro-life administration.

So you deny that there are more than 5 non-negotiables?
But you do have a new prolife judge on the supreme court. We do have a relaxation of the HHS mandate going to war with the likes of sisters of the poor. We do have a President for the first time that adressed the march for life and encouraged pro-lifers to keep working at saving babies. Please name a president in the last 20 years that did that?

Lawrence Britt wrote an article in 2003 about the common elements of fascism, and he found 14 signs.
Do any seem familiar in 2018?
  1. Powerful and continuing expressions of nationalism. (Mostly from the right for sure.
From the left you see more contempt for their own nation
  2. Disdain for the importance of human rights. Not from the right I see this coming from the Left espeacially of university campuses. MOst outrage for human rights of the left is seems very fake and contrived
  3. Identification of enemies/scapegoats as a unifying cause. This comes from both the right and the left
  4. The supremacy of the military/avid militarism. Definitely more from the right with a very bad anti cop or anti military stance coming from the left. Not sure which is worse
  5. Rampant sexism. This is a huge problem from the Left and always has been
  6. A controlled mass media. Oh my god… LEFT!
  7. Obsession with national security. (Right for sure)
  8. Religion and ruling elite tied together. Right and left. both have issues with this
  9. Power of corporations protected. Right and left. both have issues with this
  10. Power of labor suppressed or eliminated. This is not a prevalent factor in this admin or in the US in general. Certainly the left is more for unions. stronger socialist leanings that is for sure.
  11. Disdain and suppression of intellectuals and the arts. I see this no where.
  12. Obsession with crime and punishment. The right is stronger on law and order
  13. Rampant cronyism and corruption. Left for sure
  14. Fraudulent elections. "Left for sure"
“When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the American flag” --Huey Long
I think the Left is a far greater threat than the right!

Are you including yourself in this generalization or just those you judge to be so!
I am not including myself - why would I?
If anything I get flak for asking too much for facts, cogent argument, and critical thinking.

Yes of course, why would you…

I’m not a huge fan of President Trump and I did not vote for him because I did not believe really anything he claimed he believed in or would do, especially his flip from being pro-choice to conveniently pro-life for the election. I think he is needlessly insulting and inflammatory and very petty. He needs to put down the Twitter account. I am still not entirely sure he really does believe abortion always ends the life of a child.

However, I have been pleasantly surprised that he has at least acted for pro-life policies. He reinstated the Mexico City policy (and yeah it always flips back and forth). He did appoint a Justice who has actually defended the rights of pro-life institutions. He revoked the actions taken against Little Sisters of the Poor by expanding the religious and conscience accommodations. He has allowed states to remove title X funding from Planned Parenthood and defunded the UN Family Planning counsel. The administration has targeted human and sex trafficking and the president recently signed the FOSTA bill to crack down on online trafficking. There might be more, I can’t remember.

The president has been surprisingly consistent in at least trying to action on all his campaign promises, even ones I am not entirely sold on, like the border wall. The President might be a lot of things, but you can hardly say he hasn’t attempted to tackle pro-life issues and been successful.

Do have a cogent objection to make?
Would you like to refer to some specific post or posts?
I am happy to work through the facts and reasoning for you.
Not really, I was just bringing attention to your oh so revealing generalization of those whom disagree with you by doing exactly what you are complaining about in the post. I almost split a gut when I read it. See by you stated this:

“And this is the most appalling part of these times of Trump: tribal facts preferred over truth; tribal epistemology preferred over knowledge; tribal actions preferred over wisdom.”

It was because of your preferred tribal facts that you wrote this.

See your problem is that you are blinded by the large tree protruding out the side of your head to notice that you are speaking about yourself as well as so many of your allies and enemies. This is more than evident when you wrote: “I am not including myself - why would I?”

Your perfection - in the words of the pediatrician from seinfeld - is breathtaking.

You have misinterpreted my post. I did not to generalize about people with whom I simply disagree - there is plenty of room for disagreement, and for agreeing to disagree. I was speaking of a problem that, by observation, I find to be wide-spread. Others here have characterized the problem as low epistemology, and I have called epistemological chaos. This is not an epithet given to opponents, but a criticism of the content of posts and communications to which it properly applies.

I think that it is an empirical fact that this is a salient characteristic of Trump-speak and is accepted widely among his followers.

Yeah I guess if you say so it must be true! I won’t even bother to ask you to compile the evidence for this… ahem! “Opinion” of yours. I’m sure you believe all of it though, so good for you!

Why are you asking me to repeat myself? I’m totally uninterested in chatting about a political scorecard with you. As I said, I’m attempting to show you that the people you’re painting as hysterical enemies are really your neighbors who are usually well-intentioned. Yelling “We’re gonna whip their butts in November!” makes you look sad.

What about Trump… is he our neighbor? Is he well-intentioned?

#6-Mass media hates Trump with the only exception of Fox News(cable) and conservative talk radio and some conservative outlets like Breitbart. They openly criticize him daily if he were a dictator that would be crushed, believe me.

I found a new news channel --OAN-- 347 on Direct TV. Just the headlines… seems like just the news with not much opinion… 🙂

If Trump is not acting Hitler like, why do the United States seem like Germany in the 1930s?
