The ugly reason ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ didn’t become our national anthem for a century

The differences are legion - including that Japan was decimated.

However, by one metric you’re correct - Japan emerged from the ruins of WWII an intact and modern largely westernized nation.

Watch out for that poutine! I think that Canadians are trying to give us heart attacks.

Isn’t it nice to know the whole history? The truth is the light and stuff like that?
The whole history shows something that was 1. Common for its time, and 2. Unused today. The real thing coming to light is how often some folks will use stuff like this to push an ideological narrative.

Most folks in the U.S are getting sick and tired of it. You want Trump for 4 more years? THIS is how you get Trump for 4 more years.

The news item was offered for informational purposes. What’s ideological about that? No one proposed eliminating the Star-Spangled Banner. I don’t know exactly what people are tired of. You speak of ‘most folks in America’ but how do you quantify that?

Maybe we should focus on the Tulsa Race massacre of 1921. I was not familiar with details from that one so dealing with the subject could be very informative. At least once a month I get an offering about a memorial to or in regard to the 9/11 attacks. Is that an ideological narrative? Heck, I know about the attack and there’s not really more details to be uncovered.

I mistook poutine for a similar word once and it caused a lot of snickering …

Reaction from social media and left-leaning news outlets, by and large.

You do you, boo.

Is it in any way, shape or form like the “article” on the Star-Spangled Banner?

Welcome to the forum.

The US did not “liberate Canada from the imperial yoke” and had its head of state’s residence burned to the ground. That was while facing Canadian partisans, American loyalists and token Empire forces. If the USA faced the full force of the Imperial war machine it would’ve been reabsorbed into the British Empire.

I always preferred To Arms in Dixie myself.

Southern men the thunders mutter!
Northern flags in South winds flutter!
To arms! To arms! To arms, in Dixie!
Send them back your fierce defiance!
Stamp upon the cursed alliance!
To arms! To arms! To arms, in Dixie!

Advance the flag of Dixie! Hurrah! Hurrah!
To arms! To arms! And conquer peace for Dixie!

In Dixie’s land we take our stand, and live or die for Dixie!
To arms! To arms! And conquer peace for Dixie!
To arms! To arms! And conquer peace for Dixie

Fear no danger! Shun no labor!
Lift up rifle, pike, and saber!
To arms! To arms! To arms, in Dixie!
Shoulder pressing close to shoulder
Let the odds make each heart bolder!
To arms! To arms! To arms, in Dixie!

Advance the flag of Dixie! Hurrah! Hurrah!
In Dixie’s land we take our stand, and live or die for Dixie!
To arms! To arms! And conquer peace for Dixie!
To arms! To arms! And conquer peace for Dixie!

Swear upon your country’s altar
Never to submit or falter–
To arms! To arms! To arms, in Dixie!
Till the spoilers are defeated
Till the Lord’s work is completed!
To arms! To arms! To arms, in Dixie!

No, as I stated it don’t tell me a thing I didn’t know.

Did you know of the Tulsa Massacre? Would you just like to stay not knowing about it?

Seeing how the press routinely lies and fabricates racial incidents out of nothing, despite the ability to counter their narrative, I shudder to think about what they could get away with back then in 1921.

After “Lift Every Voice and Sing”, I would choose (if I had to be warlike) “Battle Cry of Freedom”. However, I’m not impartial: I read the book three times and I’m the direct descendant of a fighter on the winning side.

Oh, we’ll ral-ly 'round the flag, boys,
we’ll ral-ly once a-gain,
Shout-ing the bat-tle cry of free - dom.

We will fal-ly from the hill-side,
we’ll gath-er from the plain,
Shout-ing the bat-tle cry of free - dom.

The U - nion for-ev-er,
hur-rah, boys, hur-rah!
Down with the trai-tor,
up with the star.

While we ral-ly 'round the flag, boys,
ral-ly once again,
Shout-ing the bat-tle cry of free - dom.

We are spring-ing to the call of our broth-ers gone before,
Shout-ing the bat-tle cry of free - dom.

And we’ll fill the vac-ant ranks
with a mil-lion free-men more,
Shout-ing the bat-tle cry of free - dom.

The U - nion for-ev-er,
hur-rah, boys, hur-rah!
Down with the trai-tor,
up with the star.

While we ral-ly 'round the flag, boys,
ral-ly once again,
Shout-ing the bat-tle cry of free - dom.

We will welcome to our num-bers
the loyal, true and brave,
Shout-ing the bat-tle cry of free - dom.

And al-though they may be poor
not a man shall be a slave,
Shout-ing the bat-tle cry of free - dom.

The U - nion for-ev-er,
hur-rah, boys, hur-rah!
Down with the trai-tor,
up with the star.

While we ral-ly 'round the flag, boys, ral-ly once again,
Shout-ing the bat-tle cry of free - dom.
So we’re spring-ing to the call from the East and from the West,
Shout-ing the bat-tle cry of free - dom. And we’ll hurl the Rebel crew from the land we love the best, Shout-ing the bat-tle cry of free - dom.

Michael Brown, Rayshard Brooks, and George Floyd for starters.

The Tulsa race riots are actually a really bad part of US/Oklahoma history. The woman who made the false accusation later recanted, saying she made it up, and the reaction of the white population far exceeded what could be considered a justifiable response.

So the “White Lives Matter” protest resembled a modern day BLM riot.

I thought we were supposed to believe women though.

I don’t think BLM has massacred innocents, nor stormed jails. What you say is odious.
