Your aborted baby question is not relative to this thread.

However, original sin is not a specific act committed by the individual. It is our fallen state of imperfection. None of us are living in the perfect Garden of Eden. All of us suffer living in a state of separation from God. Adam and Eve basically told God to back off. God did and that is why we have hurricanes and floods and death from all sorts of causes. God allows bad things to happen because we told Him we don’t need Him - that we can do a better job taking care of ourselves.
I thought the focus of this thread was about Mary committing personal sin. For example, in post #6 you asked “How would Mary’s having committed a minor sin effect Jesus’ mission? My salvation?”

So, if you are appealing to the bible to claim that Mary must have committed personal sin, then my question about the personal sin of babies is relevent. If not, then I misunderstood your line of argument.

No, I am not trying to argue whether or not Mary was sinless. I am asking what difference it would make to God’s plan.

If not for the immaculate conception, would Jesus still be sinless? The answer is “yes”.

If Mary spend a day a moment or two feeling jealous over someone else’s life being easier than hers, would the whole salvation plan have fallen apart? The answer is “no”.

Correct? Or is there something I am missing?

Yes, but the scriptures that are used against Mary specifically say “all have sinned”. That is personal sin, not original sin. So if that is the basis of Ginger2’s argument, I want her to tell me what sin an aborted baby has committed, because I can’t conceive of one.
They sinned in Adam.

I don’t believe I said that - not even once. Can someone tell me the number of the post?

But the folks that say this would say there are a number of clear biblical passages that exempt Jesus, but none that exempt Mary.
If this “folks” are the folks I think they may be…they “say” alot of things, and a lot of them are not correct. “They” would be a group or groups of people who “interpret” the bible to fit their needs and agendas.

Insofar as the Blessed Mother is concerned…ie; her Immaculate Conception, her completely “sinless” life, and her Assumption into Heaven…the Catholic Church answered those questions ages ago, and “they” just haven’t caught on to the “full Truth” in the matter. Pity…

I have searched three times and cannot find myself quoting the “all have sinned” verse.
However, in post #8 I made clear I was not debating whether she had sinned or not.

Quote post #8: "Because the Bible doesn’t specifically mention that Mary sinned is not a valid argument. …

But my question isn’t really about that. I want to know what difference it makes whether or not she ever sinned. How do you think that would have effected Jesus and his purpose concerning our salvation?"

I find it difficult to have a meaningful discussion when people are responding to a topic that is not being discussed.

Furthermore, I did not misunderstand the Catechism.

Yes, the Catechism does say, “the transmission of original sin is a mystery that we cannot fully understand.” It then continues by saying, "But we do know by Revelation that Adam had received original holiness and justice not for himself alone, but for all human nature. By yielding to the tempter, Adam and Eve committed a personal sin, but this sin affected the human nature that they would then transmit in a fallen state.294** It is a sin which will be transmitted by propagation to all mankind,** that is, by the transmission of a human nature deprived of original holiness and justice. And that is why original sin is called “sin” only in an analogical sense: it is a sin “contracted” and not “committed” - a state and not an act.

It is Adam thru whom sin is passed to all human being, - male and female.

The Catechism says: “evil and death cannot be understood apart from their connection with Adam’s sin and the fact that he has transmitted to us a sin with which we are all born afflicted, a sin which is the “death of the soul”.”

Ginger, what I am about to say…don’t take it personally. Its not meant to be. I see a definite progression of a “downhill” nature in your questions and comments…they are very “protestant”. Hopefully we can get you on the right path to the “FULL TRUTH”😃
Comparing Mary to Jesus in this manner is senseless.
No, it is not. That you cannot grasp the Truth…is your shortcoming. What you are beginning to parrot is simply what was drilled into you… What we have all been explaining to you is what is the TRUTH according to OUR beliefs and they are the BELIEFS of the Holy Catholic Church. They are the tenets, no actually they are greater than “tenets”…that define our beliefs.
The Bible clearly states Jesus was without sin.(Hbr 4:15) It does not say that about Mary. I don’t believe global disaster is listed in the CC as the reason Catholics must believe Mary remained sinless.
And you believe that “just because its not concisely spelled out in the bible”…it doesn’t or can’t be. Isn’t that really a very, very narrow minded viewpoint? I have to assume that you are completely unawares of the volumes of writings of truly inspired Holy Men that formed the Catholic Church’s dogma. Am I right? I would have to also guess that you are completely unawares of the thoughts of the founders of the reformation on this subject as well. Am I right? I think so. Lest you continue “unknowing”, click on the following link and begin a journey of discovery of the “TRUTH” about Christianity.

Specifically read the 6th & 7th paragraphs. And understand that the true significance here is that a. This is from a LUTHERAN website, and b. It is directly quoting Martin Luther, the Reformist.
Concerning the immaculate conception…Mary did not have to be born without sin to be the mother of Jesus. original sin is past from the father. The mother is only a carrier.
Again, read the document quoted above, and ask yourself this question: Am I (you) so full of pride and arrogance that I (you) believe I (you) am more capable of knowing about sacred writings and God’s will that I (you) am scripturally and intellectually SUPERIOR to Martin Luther, and other Reformers??? I think we all know the answer to that question.

Its a solved mystery. Nothing any “protestant” can or will ever say will change the “TRUTH”. Ginger…its an old saying, but its ever so true… The TRUTH will set you free!!😃

Hi Little Mary,

I think that may be going a little too far. I would agree with you if you said “does not believe that Mary could be born without sin and remain sinless…” Because to believe it is impossible, would certainly deny the divinity of God for Whom all things are possible. However, I think it is possible to have a concept of the divinity of God, without believing as we do in the sinlessness of our Holy Mother.

Pax,
Robert
My point is that in order for The Blessed Virgin to be able to carry God Himself in her womb and suckle Him at her breast and otherwise have an intimate relationship with Him as His mother as He was growing up, she had to be without sin.

More simply put, God and sin just can’t stay in the same room together.

And yet, God dwelt among sinful men, in the same room, together with them. 😉

I find it difficult to have a meaningful discussion when people are responding to a topic that is not being discussed.

In order to truly “meaningful” discussion…all facets must be considered.

Now in answer to your question above: You apparently know that Adam and Eve were created and lived…in a “paradise”…with nary a care or a woe, nor illness, tribulation, sickness, bills, broken toasters or anything else… God provided all. Eve bought the devil’s line, ate the apple, then conned Adam into following suit. The end result is evident.

Now, imagine a world…if there still would be one…had Mary “sinned”. The possibilities are more than frightening. Mayhem, riot, hell on earth such as has never been seen. WHY? Because Jesus Christ would have been born of an impure mother, which would not have been according to God’s plan. It could have opened the door to Satan in ways we cannot comprehend. BUT, that did not happen. GOD gave us FREE WILL, that being the power to make our decisions…even to the extent of being able to decide whether or not we desired salvation. The Blessed Virgin Mary chose of her own free will, to do God’s bidding and remained sinless her entire life… Its just that simple. Its a TRUTH. Accept it for what it is. 🙂

robhom, you are totally confused about what I am saying.

“Comparing Mary to Jesus in this manner is senseless.” because the protestants you are debating test for truth by searching Scriptures.

Why would you ask me to read Lutheran doctrine when I am not Lutheran?

More to the point…Why would you, a Catholic, look to Lutheran doctrine to prove your point?

Does anyone care to discuss the topic of this thread?

And yet, God dwelt among sinful men, in the same room, together with them. 😉
But…Jesus Christ was not sent by God to hang out with Holy Men. He was sent to save “sinners”…thus he fulfilled His Father’s plan according to His will.😃

Tee, hee, hee!!!

God and sin just can’t stay in the same room together. Yet, Jesus sat and ate with sinners - he even spent the night in their houses!

Eve conned Adam into eating the apple So Eve willing ate because she wanted to be like God, but she tricked Adam into eating it. Then Adam was a poor victim of the wicked woman.

tee, hee, hee,

Apparently, no one wants to address the question.

If not for the immaculate conception, would Jesus still be sinless? The answer is “yes”.

If Mary spend a day a moment or two feeling jealous over someone else’s life being easier than hers, would the whole salvation plan have fallen apart? The answer is “no”.

What difference does it make whether or not Mary was sinless?

You cannot prove this. You simply state your opinion as a fact. The actual fact is, we do not know if Jesus could have become Incarnate through a sinful mother. No matter what you believe, it is just that - your personal belief. Neither is is possible for a Catholic to answer “no” as a fact. We simply don’t know.

If you didn’t (and maybe you didn’t - I’m not going to go back and check) then why are you arguing so hard for Mary to be a sinner? Your insistence on Mary’s sinfulness is such a common Protestant theme that I may have assumed you were relying on “all have sinned”.

So, if you’re not relying on “all have sinned”, why do you believe Mary was a sinner?

No my dear, I am not in the least bit confused. Here’s a simple fact: “protestants” who test for truth using only scriptures…limit God, and His ability to do what he can do. And what is really humorous about it is that “protestants” use the bible as set forth by the canon of the Catholic Church…except that y’all threw out some very important books in the process of trying to allegedly redefine “Christianity”.
Why would you ask me to read Lutheran doctrine when I am not Lutheran?
Lutheran EQUALS protestant. Its that simple. You, as a protestant, whether or not you realize it, base the majority of your beliefs on those put forth by the reformists…one of whom was Martin Luther, and that is an irrefutable fact.
More to the point…Why would you, a Catholic, look to Lutheran doctrine to prove your point?
Thats simple…what better way to prove a point than to use an opponents very own theological views? And, as a Catholic, fully possessing free will…I can make the decision as to where I gather the intelligence information to prove my point.
Does anyone care to discuss the topic of this thread?
We have discussed it. You just haven’t bothered to either read the information…or are just unwilling to accept the TRUTH according to our faith and beliefs.

I ask you: Are you actually trying to say that you and your kind are wiser and better educated as to the tenets of Christianity than Martin Luther?

We have led you to the well many times. But we cannot make you drink. You must take that step on your own.

Asking the same question with repetitive redundancy will not get a change in the answers. What is, is what is…and it will never change. What I have told you, and shown you is what I and Catholics believe, and will believe all the way to the grave and well beyond…😃

This is not a truth. Believing in Mary does not set a person free. Only following Christ alone can do that. There is not one verse or passage that comes even close to claiming Mary was sinless. Its not about being protestant or smarter than Luther and the reformers but what do the scriptures teach? A person could easily look up all the references in the Bible on Mary and never find this idea that she was sinless and other claims made by the catholic church. All that we know about Mary is only found in the scriptures. Anything else after the 1st centuries are fictions.
