There is SO MUCH wrong in this article.

I really think if someone changes their mind about something like this they shouldn’t blame the doctor. They consented as adults to the procedure knowing it is most likely permanent. They really have themselves to blame.

Why would he? Because some men change their minds? Some folks have plastic surgery then have it undone, that doesn’t make plastic surgeons reconsider their specialty.

I commend people who don’t want children who take steps (and this step is non-abortifacient) not to have them.

As for the no line going forward, what if that guy who does photography in the article leaves us some wonderful photos in his body of work? I don’t know whether Ansel Addams had children or not, but I would argue his body of work was far more important to succeeding generations than his children.

Not everyone’s vocation is to be a parent.
You make a very good point some people throughout history have had no children yet we still remember them for what they did or left behind! Or we just donlt know if they had children…but yeah.

Not everyone’s vocation is to be a parent, but sex is **ordered **to procreation and unity.
Why would he?
because mutilation of men’s God-given bodies is bad. because eradicating men’s God-giver fertility is bad.

enough men are sorry later that Doc Ross employs perfunctory ***stalling ***techniques. still he doesn’t rethink his overall choice-- a profession of male mutilation.

Well, I guess evolution will take care of these folks! Can’t sustain a population with that kind of behavior…
Well, the depopulation thing seems to be spreading, at least among western nations. Europe and Russia are in a downward demographic spiral. Perhaps the U.S. and Canada would like to be next. We will have to rely on immigration for national survival, as does Europe. Not that everyone needs to have children, but a general attitude of “no children” among a given demographic seems to me to be indicative of a national death wish.

This girl is going to change her mind, eventually:
Eskridge’s vasectomy wasn’t a surprise to girlfriend Sonya Carr, 27, a sales accounts manager. The two were friends for several years before dating, so she knew all about his decision.
“I plan to spend the rest of my life with him, so before I moved in, I did have to consider that I was basically giving up the option of having children,” Carr says. “I was already on the fence about having kids, and since realizing I either had to find a new guy or live without them, I’ve only become more convinced it was the right choice for me, too.”
She’s 27… telling herself that she’d rather have some guy than children. Uh-huh. Yeah. Sure.

People nowadays have such a blatant hatred for children.

I was part of a forum that was a very nice place. And I would post my creative writing on there and everyone loved it.

HOwever, I participated in a discussion about kids and I saw a HUGE amount of people on there that just said they “hated the little demons”.
I saw more than one person say that if they spent any long period of time around kids under 4, they’d want to kill them!

I tried to be as delicate as possible in that situation, but someone came in and started bashing those anti-children people and I decided to turn it up a little alongside him. Of course I got punished for it (not the other guy) I had people insulting me (people who had been so nice before) and accused me of angrily insulting everyone on there because they don’t want to have kids…YET, I was actually as calm as I am now and simply offered up my opinion (with some facts in there. Though I never confused the two) in a non-threatening way because I didn’t want to get banned or something. I was just saying that their attitudes against the children themselves were horrible.

They cussed, and insulted, and whined. And of COURSE, the moderator had to be one of those kid haters and banned me.
Sounds like you lost your cool.

What’s wrong with kids? Oh, I know - to have them you have to give up your selfishness and put someone else first.
People have kids because they *want *them. They don’t do it for anybody else’s sake but their own (and there is nothing wrong with that).

Eh maybe maybe not…for some of us we rather have the guy or girl then the children…😛

Unless you’re a member of succeeding generations who happens to be his grandchild, of course. 😉

Sounds like you lost your cool.
This was completely uncalled for. Your rudeness and lack of charity exudes from this post, as it does from most of your other posts.

Are you even capable of making a post that does not either insult people or take a thread off topic? Somehow I doubt it. If you cannot contribute positively to a conversation, please refrain from posting.

As for the article and those who choose to have themselves sterilized, my initial response is that it is certainly one of the most selfish things a person can do. How very sad for these people.

First, a quote from the Catechism of the Catholic Church:
1652 “By its very nature the institution of marriage and married love is ordered to the procreation and education of the offspring and it is in them that it finds its crowning glory.”
Code:
**Children are the supreme gift of marriage and contribute greatly to the good of the parents themselves.** God himself said: "It is not good that man should be alone," and "from the beginning [he] made them male and female"; wishing to associate them in a special way in his own creative work, God blessed man and woman with the words: "Be fruitful and multiply." Hence, true married love and the whole structure of family life which results from it, without diminishment of the other ends of marriage, are directed to disposing the spouses to cooperate valiantly with the love of the Creator and Savior, who through them will increase and enrich his family from day to day.
This is Truth. This is how we are meant to be. If anyone is convinced that they should not have children, then they should not marry. They should live another vocation, either to the single or religious life.

Again, from the Cathechism:
2201 The conjugal community is established upon the consent of the spouses. Marriage and the family are ordered to the good of the spouses and to the procreation and education of children. The love of the spouses and the begetting of children create among members of the same family personal relationships and primordial responsibilities.
The whole reason for marriage is to create a family. If you have no intention of having children, you do not have a valid marriage. See the Catechism again:
2366 Fecundity is a gift, an end of marriage, for conjugal love naturally tends to be fruitful. A child does not come from outside as something added on to the mutual love of the spouses, but springs from the very heart of that mutual giving, as its fruit and fulfillment. So the Church, which is “on the side of life,” teaches that “**it is necessary that each and every marriage act remain ordered per se to the procreation of human life.” **"This particular doctrine, expounded on numerous occasions by the Magisterium, is based on **the inseparable connection, established by God, **which man on his own initiative may not break, between the unitive significance and the procreative significance which are both inherent to the marriage act."
Obviously, the reason for marriage revolves around children. So again, it’s fine if you don’t want children, just don’t get married. Either live a chaste single life, or pursue a chaste religious vocation.

teakafrog, thanks so much for posting the ONLY voice that counts: the voice of the Holy Spirit as it’s expressed through the Church.

and this is the best kept, in-plain-sight secret of all time, i think:
Children are the supreme gift of marriage and contribute greatly to the good of the parents themselves.

every parent here can attest to this. we’re better. more generous, more energetic, more concerned, more loving, more merciful, more prayerful, more trusting in God, more inventive, more intuitive, more patient than we could have ever imagined we’d be before kids.

the paradox is this: having kids shines lights on those times when we’re punitive, grumpy, boring, and worried. but that’s how growing in holiness occurs! we become better people because we’re forced to see our failures and we’re forced to see how they affect our loved ones-- especially our kids. we want to be better people for our kids so we change.

the selfish guy thinks he’s fine how he is and can’t be bothered with a potentially painful formation.

the selfish guy doesn’t know what he’s missing.

I agree that this guy doesn’t know what he’s missing, but I still don’t feel sorry for him. People face the consequences of their stupid choices all the time. As long as no one’s rights are violated(like in the case of abortion for example) I don’t really care. Maybe he’ll regret it, but he should’ve thought of that before.

I have no problems with a married couple choosing a child free life; not everyone is meant or able to be a parent. But as someone called by God to infertility, it’s really, really sad to see people actually throw away the ability to create another life by having a procedure like this.

I agree heartily with this! 👍 Some people just don’t understand the blessing they have in not struggling with infertility. 🤷

If I could give every last bit of my fertility assuming I have any which I do not to a couple who wants kids but do not have any fertility. Sadly for some reason God gives fertility to people like me who have no use or want for it…and takes it away from people who would actually use. it. 🤷

Eh? I am a little lost here. Could you be slightly more clear, please?

You know if I had not gotten married I am not really sure if I would be on this physical earth right now ie I would be dead I was not in a good place before I got married and falling in love and getting married may have saved my life. At the very least it has made it much better then it would have been I was heading towards a dead end in a very deep hole even if I hadn;t ended up killing myself. Not to mention my getting married also helped push my mom to help herself. Before she had been a alcholic for years. While she had some good days some days she just plain nasty and she wouldn;t get the help she needed. My going off and getting married was one of the major things that finally got her to go get help. She is a much happier person now and I no longer have to worry when I visit if this is going to be a good or bad day.

So you will have to forgive me if I take issue with people saying people like me should not marry.
