Then why don’t you support the “take down” of all the black Jesus’? Would destroying those churches that display Jesus as black be okay? . . .

The point is you are supporting rioting.
Don’t you dare ever claim to know my mind or accuse me of supporting such things. You are so incredibly wrong on all of this that it is not possible for me to adequately describe it and stay within forum rules.
It’s pretty clear.
Yes, it is clear to one with adequate reading comprehension and not blinded by misplaced anger (or not trolling).

Here’s your ticket. Destination: Ignore Central. Optional destination: none.

No, they are coming for your non brown, blue eye, lily skinned version. Maybe make an accurate jesus?
Isn’t it traditional in Catholic Churches around the world for Jesus and Mary to be depicted in the native garb and have the physical features of the local culture? Mary, when she appears often takes on the appearance of the peoples with whom she’s communicating. In predominantly white areas, yes, you will see predominantly white representations. There are Catholic African American parishes in the US. I wonder if the art, music, and culture reflects that there. Usually parish councils will decide what kind of art to display so are predominantly Black parish councils not free to display the faith from their cultural heritage? They should be.

The solution isn’t for non-whites to violently destroy white religious images. The solution, as I see it, would be for diocese and parish councils to be sure that the art and music in their parishes reflects the populations that they serve. For example, A predominantly Hispanic parish should have predominantly Hispanic art and music while not excluding representations of other cultures that may be present there. A parish that is predominantly white should make sure that there are also representations of all the cultures that are represented by that local parish family to make it welcoming for all. In larger metropolitan areas where there is greater diversity, a greater diversity should be shown.

There is room for improvement yes but dialog is the answer, not violence. Christ and our Blessed Mother are for all peoples.

That’s still a dumb thing to do and replacing countless statues is hardly viable or pragmatic.

I would have replied sooner but I was given a vacation from the forum. Allow me to illuminate;
Should churches be attacked? No.
Should we have a conversation about the subtle harm bleaching the skin of your figure heads? Absolutely.
Should you be surprised that people sick and tired of being oppressed see your white Jesus as a symptom of racial in equality? No.

That’s all I was saying.

The Knights of Columbus outlasted the Ku Klux Klan, I’m certain they can outlast this new rash of outrage.

Though in truth they should have done a better job defending their namesake; while big name television shows were making cartoons presenting simplified accounts of Christopher Columbus’ expedition to paint him in the worst possible light, the Knights seemed to say nothing (or if they did speak out they didn’t do so very loudly). Recently a Catholic Priest stood in front of a statue of Saint Louis to keep it up, but did any Knights of Columbus do the same for status of their namesake?

Well as a former Knight I’ll tell you there are three types of knights:
The ones who work their butts off for charity
The ones who think they are running a business
The ones who are there because their buddies are and it’s a cool club to drink in.

None of those things are wrong and I’m not going to pretend the first is a minority but it often paralyzes some chapters.

I was the founding member of my chapter and door keeper. After my grandfather passed I was the only second degree member allowed to carry a sword (his) and hold a title in all Canada.

Knowing what I know now about Columbus I feel nothing will be lost in changing the name. There are great people in the knights. So ultimately;

What’s in a name?

Because it links a charity organization to a murderer. One who was imprisoned for it when he got home.

He wasn’t a murderer. And that’s not what he was imprisoned for. He was imprisoned based on false charges, freed six later, and then Spain funded his 4th voyage.

I concur with with all four statements. I will add a fifth.
The ones who are there to do the bidding of the Priest good and BAD.
