One reads the title of this thread and imagines SWAT teams fiercely storming the local parish pancake breakfast. Coffee and maple syrup spilled everywhere.

I don’t understand why anyone thinks we need to change our name. Columbus is our namesake, and the people “offended” by that decision don’t seem to be the kind who would desire to associate with us were we called something else.
Great point!!! Why would someone want you to change the name of your organization when even if the name were changed they wouldn’t want to be part of it?

Satan is quite cunning and clever—masking himself in different clothings. It has always been Christ that they have gone after. The same is true from within the Church. Let’s continue to pray for God’s will be done…

We are living in dangerous time…

I could care less if he discovered the city of Atlantis. He was enslaved thousands and became a tool for European imperialism.

You said that he became a tool for imperialism. Explain how so? Are you implying that he was being used?

How about “Knights of Erikson”? He beat Columbus to North America by a few centuries on a Catholic Mission; but I guess in hindsight it was a failure. At least no scandalous legacy.

I seriously thought about this (hypothetically) as a legitimate spinoff for the Canadian councils of Knights. Makes sense. But not to spite the founding order.

Go ahead, draft a resolution in your council, have a vote on it. Be my guest.

Driving around Henderson New York I saw a Public history marker/sign that read “Samuel de Champlain, First white man to enter Henderson,October, 1615, passed over Indian trail here.“ I wondered how long it will be before . . . someone . . . tries to nail that sign.
My thought is that Knights of Columbus shouldn’t entertain changing the name.

Rabbit hole

The current violent rebellion is an effort to unseat USA’s sweet short Christian rooted history.

Remaking and rebranding effort

History can’t be rewritten.
Samuel de Champlain was the first white man to walk where I walked today.
Knights of Columbus are Knights of Columbus.

Besides, at what point will the Saxon British seek reparations from the Viking Danes for their invasion of Northumbria in the 9th century? It gets to be a bit ridiculous.

Sweet? Hardly, with the number of wars the US has had its hand in both at hone.and abroad - the ones since WWII mostly being unesolved stalemated messes.

America history always fascinates me.
I checked out Sackets Harbor today too.
American history takes on a breath taking dimension when I visit historically relevant places.
