While I agree with you on the insidious nature of a national ID card, I don’t think I would be using Willliam Pitt as an example for individual freedom. Good quote though, even though Pitt didn’t live up to it.Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves. – William Pitt, speech, Nov. 18, 1783
Which I guess means that he very well proved his own sad point huh? While I agree with you on the insidious nature of a national ID card, I don’t think I would be using Willliam Pitt as an example for individual freedom. Good quote though, even though Pitt didn’t live up to it.
When the French Revolution began (1789), Pitt’s desire was for peace and neutrality, and after France finally declared war (1793) on Britain, he failed to foresee either the length or the seriousness of the conflict. Within Great Britain he suspended (1794) habeas corpus and enacted other repressive legislation to halt radical agitation.
Have you ever lived in Mexico???Hmmm…
I’ve said it before, but dangit, I’m moving to Mexico.
Gilliam are you just asking or are you suggesting that being tracked is okay?Have you ever lived in Mexico???
I am simply asking. People are tracked in Mexico all the time. It isn’t really a democracy down there.Gilliam are you just asking or are you suggesting that being tracked is okay?![]()

At least their honest about the corruption, though, eh? I’ve spent some time in Mexico, albeit not long-term. I love the country, don’t mind the poverty, and do intend to move there. Maybe not for good, but at least for a time. I appreciate the concern, though.I am simply asking. People are tracked in Mexico all the time. It isn’t really a democracy down there.
We have terrorist in the country now:nope: The fluffy picture aside there are warehouses of chips ready for US citizens,I do not like it and will not comply with such there is a time to say no way:nope:I think tracking people who enter the US temporarily would be a good idea, if we actually asked them to leave when their time expires. If we did so, the 9/11 terrorists would have been asked to leave prior to 9/11

Fr Echert got asked this question, specifically about the VeriChip and here is his response:
What is your belief on the “Veri Chip”?
Question from Steffen G. on 07-17-2004: In protestant theology, the “Mark of the Beast” in implanted under the skin in the hand or forehead and no one can buy or sell with out one. Right now it is voluntary the people are getting them for “personal security” the mexican government has been “chiped”, some people in the u.s. have gotten chipped, the first a family from florida. i know this is not the “beast”, but would not this make people put down there gaurd, like 1940’s people were wery of credit cards but they are common now and people do not think about it. could it happen with the verichip/mark of beast? Lord know what can be downloaded on these chips without anyone knowing. also don’t you think that revelations as interpreted by the bible christians is errily similar to this?
Answer by Fr. John Echert on 07-17-2004: Enough so that I will refuse to allow the implantation of any such chip under my skin or within my biological system, whether it be for military purposes, commercial exchange, national or personal security, or any other reason. I cannot know for certain that such would be a fulfillment of the “mark of the beast” of revelation, but it is too close to ignore and foreign to the body God gave me. In short, it will have no place in this the body of this priest. Thanks, Steffen Father Echert
That is a terrible arguement. Using this arguement he would be against a pacemaker implanted in his body (which I would guess he would not be). IMHO he just doesn’t want people to know where he is at any one time. That is fine, in the US you have that right. But it has nothing to do with theology.Shoshana I am going to find a reply from one of the priests from EWTN that doesn’t like that either:nope: http://www.ewtn.com/vexperts/showre…p?RecNum=406109
